When I finished viewtopic.php?t=682931 this picture a few people asked if I would do a tutorial so I did. Ask any questions in the comments, this is my first tutorial so if you have comments or critiques I'd love to hear them.
This is what it all says if any one needs it and doesn't want to open the oekaki
Intro page:
Crazyh0tcakes' realistic fur tutorial
1. Sorry if parts are hard to read
2. This method is much easier with a tablet but can be done using a mous/pad
3. For an example of this method look at the picture of the two wolves facing each other named Fight with lines by TWG09
4. Ask any questions in the comments
Step 1: Color Choice
Here you'll pick what color you want to use. Let's say you want to use a medium grey, you'll need three shades of that color
The lightest shade/ the highlight, the middle shade/ the main color and the darkest shade/ the base color
Step 2
Now starting with the darkest shade fill in the area you want to be the middle color.
Next using short slightly curved strokes add the middle color - shorter strokes for the face longer for the body.
Then add long strokes of the lightest color, you can go in with the darker two shades and break the strands a little so it looks like you can see every strand of fur.
Optional: You can add extra shine with the dodge tool. You can also use the smudge tool but this is very easy to over do you want to not be able to see the start of the lines but you don't want it to look fuzzy.
Also if you want an area your lightest color start with the middle shade as the base and do the second step with the lightest color and the add a bit of the darkest color where it's necessary.
