A story started by a senile old shop owner, a masquerade themed dance, and five masks of ancient and powerful qualities....

@NaviLilly: were you thinking of writing a story for them? It sounds very interesting. :3

This is genius, my dear, simply genius. I don't suppose there's any more to it?

Fff, you flatter me, you really do! <3 I'm not so sure if there is now, though I usually don't do much planning for any stories. I could... Certainly attempt it, if you wish?

But what he found when he went to sell his thoughts was that a dime, even one coated with slime, had thoughts of its own as well.

lizzy{f}......scottie{m}

---

Lizzy sat in her chair, her eyes focused on the page of her book. She always loved to read. I felt awkward watching her, and redirected my attention to my own book. I was never a fan of reading, but Lizzy insisted that I had to; that reading gave me knowledge, and that I could use some more of that. Lizzy was so wonderful; always happy, grinning ear-to-ear... I must be the luckiest man alive.

...

Lizzy came home in tears, stumbling over her own feet. The sun left a kiss of pink on the clouds outside, and the rest of the sky purple. I ran to comfort her, but she collapses in on herself. I knelt down beside her, her sides heaving with sobs. "Lizzy, darling, what's wrong? Shh... shh. Don't cry." I hushed, holding her close. "I-I.. the doctor..." Sobs ended her sentence. "I have cancer." Those three words were each a stone. A big, round stone that hit me in the gut, one after another. I searched for words, but I drew a blank. She was so young; how could she have cancer? "What stage?" My words were thin, and two dimensional. "2, thank God." She cringed, clutching me closer. It was good we found out so soon; I must be the luckiest man alive...

...

The beeps of Lizzy's heart monitor were steady; smooth. Like the rythym of a song. Her eyes were dulled; her skin pale as the first snow of the year. And to no suprise, a book in her hand. Oxygen tubes in her nose, and I.V in her arm, and a hospital smock to top it all of. And yet, she was still beautiful. Her hair was all gone; I helped her shave it off the night before the trip to the hospital. We both cried the entire time. Shaving her head was like a reality check for me, to tell me, 'well Scottie, here is your highschool sweetheart. Enjoy her while she lasts.' And yet, two months later, here she is... alive. Not dead. I must be the luckiest man alive...

...

They wouldn't let me see her. They had a thin white sheet over her, as they removed the lifesupport I.Vs and such from her body. I could've sworn I saw her breathing. I hardly noticed the tears; they were of little importance. I sat next to her body for hours, holding her hand. It looked like she was sleeping; her eyes closed, her mouth open half-way... all she needed to do now was snore. There had to be some good from this; some way to look at this and say, "it could be worse". But it can't. It cannot in any way be worse. I guess I had it coming to me, though. I can't always be the luckiest man alive...

The Litte Prince and his Rose

Then one morning, exactly at sunrise, she suddenly showed herself.

And, after working with all this painstaking precision, she yawned and said:

"Ah! I am scarcely awake. I beg that you will excuse me. My petals are still all disarranged . . ."

But the little prince could not restrain his admiration:

"Oh! How beautiful you are!"

Excerpt from "The LIttle Prince" ^^.

This is beautiful and made me cry. I lost a young aunt to cancer this year and it was a pretty rough time for our family, so I could very much identify with this.
