Awesome!
Okay, so, here's the thing. I need a cover for a story I wrote, called
King of Cats. It's based on Shakespeare's
Romeo and Juliet, first person, from Tybalt's point of view. I'd like everyone who wants to have a go to draw/scribble/paint/
whatever a cover, and then let me know about it by posting it, or linking me to it, or something of that nature. I need to be able to see it. I'll give character descriptions, and you get to choose what to do with them! Sounds good, right? There's no prize, so I hope that doesn't discourage you, and I can't post the full story for fear that it might be stolen. It's not really a contest, although the best cover might be chosen as the real front for the story.
Prologue.I remember the day my cousin Juliet was born. I was five then, and as my uncle laid his hand on my shoulder, I felt like the smallest thing in the world. "She hasn't any brothers to protect her, or defend her honor," he told me, "So that duty falls to you, nephew." He knelt down in front of me, and said, "Don't you let her go, Tybalt Capulet. Don't you let her slip away."
And I didn't intend to.
What I'd like to see.
- Action poses. I want to see people doing things. Tybalt and Romeo have a fight scene, as well as Tybalt and Mercutio. (Mercutio dies.)Tybalt is engaged to Rosaline- you could do something with that. I just want the cover to center on Tybalt, since he's the main character.
- Roses. The Capulet family crest contains a rose, and the rose is an important symbol in their family. I'd like to see roses somewhere in here. (The Montague family crest is a lion rampant in front of crossed spears, if you want to do something with that.)
- Settings. The play and my story are set in Verona, Italy, sometime in the late 1500's. Set accordingly.
Characters
Tybalt Capulet. Tybalt is tall, slim, with black hair, green eyes, and dark golden-brown skin. He has high cheekbones, a thin nose, and long legs. He has a permanent cowlick at the back of his head. His clothing consists of brown sandals, brown breeches, a white full-sleeved shirt and a scarlet tunic with gold embroidery. Engaged to
Rosaline Finch.Juliet Capulet. Juliet is younger than her cousin, and just a bit shorter. (Tybalt is 19, and Juliet is 14.) Her hair is the same jet black, her eyes a soft chocolate brown. Her skin is a shade lighter than Tybalt's, but still dark. She usually wears dresses in darker shades of green, but she also wears lighter summer dresses, depending on the weather. She had soft features, and her hair hangs down to the middle of her back.
Lord Capulet. Tall, with dark hair. Brown eyes, and a small black mustache and beard.
Aybra. A servant in the Capulet house. About fourteen or fifteen years old, Aybra has fair skin and blue eyes. Her hair is a light chestnut brown, usually worn pinned up or cut short. She has a crush on
Tybalt Capulet. She wears plain light brown breeches, a white shirt, and a crimson tunic, the same as the other servants. On market days she wears a plain gray gown.
Duke Paris. Paris is far taller than any of the other characters, towering over even Valentine at six feet, four inches. His hair is a dull brown, cropped short, and he has a goatee of the same color. His eyes are dull gray, almost black. He dresses in fancy clothes, being as rich as he is, and wears light colors like blues and whites. He wants to marry
Juliet, but she doesn't want to marry him.
Valentine Finch. Rosaline and Livia’s father. Valentine is the most feared and respected merchant in all of Verona, but because he has raised his daughters by himself after his wife’s death he also has a deep love for his children. He is tall and lean, with long legs and fingers. His skin is dark brown, like chocolate, and his hair is pure black. One eye is silver, and one gold, slightly almond-shaped. It’s his eyes that make him feared- their gaze is unsettling at best. He wears a brown tunic, a gray shirt, and black breeches.
Rosaline Finch. Rosaline is as tall as Tybalt, slender, with golden-brown skin and red-gold hair that hangs in gentle curls to her waist. Her eyes are a gentle gray-green, and she’s more wont to smile than frown. She’s engaged to
Tybalt, her sister is
Livia, and her father is the merchant
Valentine. She’s something like eighteen years old. Usually she wears tunics and breeches, when she helps her father in the shop, but the rest of the time she wears short summer dresses that complement her long hair and slim build.
Livia Finch. Livia is Rosaline’s younger sister, aged fourteen years, with a build and hair color that is almost identical to that of
Juliet Capulet. They aren’t related, it’s merely a coincidence. Her eyes are light brown, and she has a sharp nose. She likes to wear darker colors than her sister, and she’s more bookish. If spectacles had been invented, she would wear them.
Escalus. Prince of all Verona, Escalus is of noble blood, and certainly looks it. His skin is blacker than Turkish coffee, his hair the same shade of midnight. His eyes are dark brown, and he is taller than most men. He almost measures up to
Duke Paris, but not quite. He’s an excellent swordsman. Normally, he wears gray breeches, a brown shirt, and a tunic in the deep forest green of Verona. It has a mighty tree embroidered on the front in black thread.
Mercutio. His skin and hair are the same color as that of his uncle,
Prince Escalus. His eyes are a deep green, however, and he’s more likely to show his white teeth in a playful smile than the prince. He’s a good swordsman, but not as good as his uncle. He used to be
Tybalt’s best friend. Usually, he wears more extravagant colors and clothing. He likes to show off.
Romeo Montague. Romeo is a little taller than
Juliet Capulet, but shorter than her cousin
Tybalt. His skin is fair, his eyes hazel-gray. His hair is brown, something resembling chestnut, and he wears it long, so that it flops into his eyes. Normally, he wears brown breeches, a white shirt, and over that a dark blue tunic with silver embroidery. Blue and silver are the Montague’s colors, like Crimson and Gold are the Capulet’s.
Benvolio Montague. Benvolio is cousin to
Romeo. He’s taller than most of his family- as tall as Paris, even, but much better looking. His build is tall, thin, with long legs and strong arms. He has gray-green eyes, fair skin, and a farmer tan that he shows off by just wearing a tunic in Montague blue, without the white shirt that his cousin wears. His hair is light brown, cut handsomely short.
