A cold wind blew through the tree's. The pelts of many of the waiting cats were ruffled by the sudden breeze and a few shivered in both fear and anticipation. This was it, on opposing sides of the clearing stood two groups of cats. This was how far the war had come. This is how far the leaders were willing to go to show who was stronger. A few cats glanced around them wondering if they would ever see some of the other cats again. The fear was evident in many of there eyes.
In the Waterclan ranks a few apprentices stood there eyes damp with fear. A few cats were shaking all wondering if they would ever see the sun again. Suddenly a brown tabby tom cat walked to the group of apprentices and stood by them. His eyes sought out one in particular, a pale cream she cat he had trained from the moment he had met her as a kit. She looked up at him eyes fearful.
"Swiftstorm...Be careful" she mewed softly and all the apprentices looked up eyes suddenly going wide. As one they moved in amongst the ranks of cats to seek out there mentors, the cats that had trained them forever. They all knew they would be outnumbered and all wanted to fight, and maybe fall by the cats closest to them.
In the Wildclan ranks however the fear was less, they could smell the Waterclan cats and could smell the fear. They all knew the true reason for this fight. Shadowstar was after something and wouldn't back down until she had it. They had all been warned not to kill a certain cat and had been told they had free reign with the others. Cold smiles had settled on many of the cats faces and only a few looked uneasy. Most of the apprentices were shivering in excitement relishing the fact they would soon be fighting. These cold hearted cats looked to there leader who grinned.
"Attack" the cry came from both sides at once and tons of cats surged forwards. From Waterclan Splashstar, Riverstep, Tawnystripe and Swiftstorm led the charge closely followed by Mouseclaw, Foxheart, Blackstripe, Dawnblaze, Emberglow and Raindrop. The apprentices Leafpaw, Brightpaw, Lionpaw and Silverpaw followed orders and dived between the older cats legs to attack the approaching enemy.
Shadowstar grinned coldly as she leapt forwards flanked by Bronzeflame and Bluefire. In an organised line behind them were Redstripe, Ravenstrike, Fawnpelt, Mapleleaf, Treepelt, Swallowfur, Snakebite, Beetleclaw, Ashtail, Jaystream, Berryfur and Batscream. The apprentices Aspenpaw, Eaglepaw, Sharppaw and Hailpaw dived in with them as the two groups collided in a mass of fur.
It was chaos, Splashstar and Shadowstar had crashed together as one big ball. Riverstep and Bronzeflame had done the same, it was leader on leader, deputy on deputy. Brightpaws eyes widened as she saw Mouseclaw tackled by both Redstripe and Ravenstrike and the grey she cat sank to the floor seconds later eyes closed. Dawnblaze seemed to be holding her own against Fawnpelt but before she could injure the other in a way to remove her from the fight she found Mapleleaf had attacked as well. Brightpaw couldn't watch anymore as she and her sister were leapt on by Aspenpaw and Eaglepaw, beside them Lionpaw and Silverpaw fought Sharppaw and Hailpaw. The eight apprentices fought with almost matching strength and skill, the only difference was the Wildclan cats wee fighting to kill.
The young she cat wasn't paying attention to anything but her fight until that fateful moment.
"Brightpaw" yelled Leafpaw eyes wide with fear. The cream she cat spun to see Shadowstar leaping at her from behind. A dark paw slammed into her head and her sight went black. From the other side of the clearing Tawnystripe and Swiftstorm ran at the Wildclan leader only to be thrown back by her warrior.
"Retreat" called Bronzeflame "We got what we came for" he yowled leaving the battle. As one the Wildclan cats threw down there opponents and ran.
Splashstar watched them go her head heavy. Leafpaw was led on the ground eyes wide, body shaking with fear and silent tears. Swiftstorm had a gash on his chest from the warrior who had thrown him back and Tawnystripe had sunk to the ground ears flat to his head. Many other warriors sunk down either from injuries, tiredness or fear. Why had they taken an apprentice, there had to be a reason was the thought going throught most cats heads.
"Riverstep" said Splashstar softly and her loyal deputy padded over with a few small cuts on her pelt but nothing major.
"Get Littlefur and Tigerpaw, this battle's over" said Splashfur softly before she too sunk to the ground.
Ok so let me know what you think
