((Sorry this post is so, well, bad. I haven’t been this busy in months, what with homework hell, sickness, cleaning up hurricane damage, and the like. I’ll do a bit more later, if I can finish up my schoolwork.))
__Skye Kuronai__
Skye flinched visibly and the loud and impatient pounding on the door awoke him from his rest. He had been stretched out across the couch; his things more or less neatly packed up in bags near him, taking some much-needed sleep. He had spent hours raiding the Internet in the hopes of finding out more of his ‘new school,’ Barretta’s, without success. Before he knew it, light was coming through the windows, and he was just about collapsing from lack of sleep. However, being the procrastinator that he was, he had packed nothing, and promptly scrambled to get that done. By the time he was finished, he had barely enough time to catch an hour or two of sleep. Not to mention he hadn’t bothered with changing out of his dirt stained tee-shirt and pants, nor tried to tame his hair, which once again was getting longer than he would have liked and sticking up in all the most irritating ways.
He rose stiffly, blinking and yawning every few seconds, and made his was across the room towards the hallway. Upon reaching the door, he fiddled quickly with the many locks he had put there in random moments of paranoia, and thrust it open as to quit that mad pounding that one of the men on the other side had been causing. They looked serious enough, smart black suits, glasses, and probably even more concealed weapons than the ones Skye could make out, which were a startling many. Even their thoughts gave away nothing to him; obviously they had been trained to keep from giving information mind readers, which he was rather impressed by.
“Skye Kuronai, we are preparing to take you to the secure location that will be referred to only as ‘Barretta’s” Black-suit-guy, as Skye had mentally dubbed him, said in a dull monotone. “But first, given the circumstances, we are obliged to find proof that-”
“-I can in fact hear your every thought.” Skye said in an equally flat tone, continuing the sentence with ease. “And that I was not merely faking it as an opportunity to escape from my ‘poverty.’ Now, you are thinking that I could have merely predicted all off this. Now guy number two over there believes me, but you remain suspicious.”
He let his voice draw to a stop at this point, feeling that he had proven his ability soundly. He watched as the two exchanged a quick look and a nod. Skye smiled inwardly, even if for no reason in the slightest. Of course, at that point one of the pair let out one rather important thought, which he picked up on quickly and stepped back:
“You… that’s not legal…” He whispered quietly as his vision clouded over at a startling pace. Skye’s legs collapsed beneath him, and unconscious washed over his last-second thoughts of panic. Not many children get to know the honor that they are being gassed to sleep until after it happens, and as Skye would assure them, it is not a cheery moment.
