I think something that would be more effective of raising their rarity would be to collect as many, say, CE Galaxies as possible --- only to delete the hoard afterwards. This would definately make them go up, I feel.

From a logical standpoint it would be odd, why collect something and then delete it? Just to get a better rarity of something you don't trade away anway (if you keep one CE)? I doubt it would have that much of an impact even if you would delete the hoard.

This happened with the medieval faire rats, actually. People were collecting hundreds just to delete them all so the rarity would hopefully go up.
If someone were to hypothetically do the same for a CE it would be to raise the rarity of the one you kept. EDIT: Or just because you think it's fun to screw with the system.

You're not talking about affecting the actual listed rarity and value as there's no way to do that other than deleting thousands of a certain outcome or as Olivia's shown by adopting thousands upon thousands of a particular set of pets. (this can't happen any more because there are adoption limits now)
But a perfect example of what you're theorizing about is the member with the huge Black Advent hoard. I believe she's single handedly increased their value. There are far far less of them in circulation so the ones you do come across people value far above any other equal rarity '08 Advents.
In order to affect the relative value of CE Galaxies like this I think you'd have to manage to gather up quite a few.

I don't think Tif simply having a lot is what raised their apparent price, it's that she was offering outrageously for them for a while there. It's also the fact that they were already quite popular before that too. I think at one point she offered a Joker for 2 or 3 Black Advents...

I guess the question is, how many CE Galaxies can you get with a full set of July and August 08 dogs, and is it enough to seriously screw up the supply? I think you could get at least 30 (assuming their value doesn't skyrocket in response halfway through). Keeping in mind it wouldn't work that simply because the Galaxies are spread across multiple people, so it's unrealistic to expect say only Galaxies for every July 08 VR/OMG. I think that would be the biggest hurdle facing someone crazy enough to do this. Also, only people with the July and August 08 pets, or other high rares list stuff such as the Zebras and high level URs, would be in any position to do this. And since it hasn't happened yet (not to a main Rares List pet anyway) one could assume nobody can/will do anything like this, to that extent anyway. But if it did happen, it would be very interesting.

Interesting people are doing that with the faire rats, I was wondering why the dragon rats seemed so 'popular'. The unicorn rats I just popped in a group as a hoard, although I guess they technically aren't since I didn't trade for them? Although I had to trade for a single one to even out the numbers.

There's a question -> if you adopt a lot of them through an event such as the Faire, and put them in a group together, is it a hoard? Or is it only a hoard if you trade for more of them?

I would actually do it if I had a way of keeping my main collection at the same time, which could only occur if I merged with someone that also had an almost complete collection, so together we could have a complete one plus lots of extra rares list stock. And was willing to trade most of that stock for CE Galaxies. It would be interesting to see how much havoc such a hoarder could cause.

I think that the only person in the position to pull something like this off though, would be a complete/almost complete collection owner (or someone that has traded up to the high rares list pets and has a lot of them) that is prepared to sacrifice their collection (or merge with someone else with a complete/ish collection so they can have their cake and eat it too). I think this is why we haven't really seen anything like this happen, nor are our chances of seeing it happen very likely.

I think they still count, really. :p If you have quite a number of them and think it's enough for a hoard, then I suppose it would count as a hoard? I'm not too sure though.

This would be an interesting sort of "virtual social experiment" to do. *fades in* we've got a complete collection except for the Zebras I traded away for hoard pets *fades back out* I think this conversation actually belongs more in the Rares List guide now that I think about it. I don't know if I'd have the courage to do something like this though.

Generally those who hoard very rare pets get a lot of stick from users who want you to trade your hoards because apparently it's 'selfish'. :C

To clarify there is not ONE user hoarding BAs. There's twelve I can list off the top of my head and that's only the ones I've found that have announced they are hoarding them. A single user hoarding cannot change the value of it, but if many do it and each overpay for them because they are trying to 'beat' the other, then you have a change in value.

I find the actual idea rather interesting... I should have hoarded something easier than Moonswirls, lol. It's something worth trying, I'd say, if you're a curious CS user; I'd like to know myself.
