Prolouge;
I burst through a bush, stumbling and almost falling flat on my face. Quickly, I threw my hands out, pushed off a tree, forcing myself to regain my balance and keep running. My lungs were on fire and my legs were screaming at me to stop, rest, breathe.
But, I couldn’t. I couldn’t stop running from that.. thing. Even now as my heart beat in my ears and my laboured breathing blocked out any other sound, I heard it following.
It didn’t run like me. No. It ran faster and it was much more.. agile. “There’s no need to run..” I heard a velvety voice murmur behind me, right by my ear. I squealed and swatted at whatever was there..
Nothing. I must be going insane. “No. I am here, human. Do not be scared.. Come to me..” The soft purr was right there. Once again, by my ear. Wonderful. It could read minds.
“STAY AWAY FROM ME!” I screamed, immediately realising that was a horrible idea. I was already about to collapse and I needed to save my breath, but it was no use. They were going to catch me. I was actually amazed that they hadn’t already.
Laughter swirled around me, echoing in my mind. I started to slow down, not being able to think of any good reasons to keep running. “What do you want from me..?” I whispered, hating how I could feel warm tears flowing down my flushed cheeks.
There was no answer, only more laughter. The monster had won and they knew it. Now, all they had to do was finish me off.. And continue on their way.. Bury my body somewhere.. Burn me, perhaps..
“No. Nothing like that.” The voice sighed, but it wasn’t as close now. Well, it was close, but apparently it had been using some sort of weird power to make it’s voice sound.. really, really close.
I shuddered, glancing around to see a tall, pale and well-build male walking towards me. He had bright white-blonde hair and.. shining purple eyes. When he smiled, he exposed animal sharp fangs. “Nothing like that at all..” He finished, stopping only inches away from me.
My head spun, trying to fit the pieces together. “Wh..?” Was about the only thing I could choke out. I didn’t believe in all of those.. Stupid, fairy tales. Vampires, really? As if. But, right now, in front of me.. What else could this man possibly be?
“We have many names. I cannot be bothered to list them. I’m hungry.” He said, tilting his head to the left slightly, a bright flare of red flickered through his purple iris’s. I frantically shook my head, raising my shoulders a little, as if that would keep him from getting to my neck.
“Leave me alone, you creep.” I muttered, getting ready to flee again, for some stupid reason. I didn’t get the chance. He grabbed my shoulder, probably not realising his grip was bone-crushing. I opened my mouth to scream again, this time in pain, not fear, but then he shoved me, hard.
I collapsed to my knees and choked back a sob, trying to wriggle away. “Stop trying to escape. You were just telling yourself it was no use running.” He growled, grabbing my other shoulder and pushing me back, so my back was pressed against the rough bark of a tree.
“And I just told you to leave me alone.” I muttered, ignoring the pain in my shoulders. His lips twitched as he fought a smile. “You’re cute. I might change you and keep you as a pet.” He chuckled, releasing one of my shoulders to stroke my cheek lightly.
I narrowed my eyes and once again, tried to twist away. He sighed. “I grow weary of your pathetic attempt of escape.” He murmured, then shrugged. “Let’s get this over with, shall we?” And then he leant towards me, using the hand he had stroked my cheek with to clutch at my bright red hair and twist my head to the side.
“Please.. Don’t..” I whispered, squeezing my eyes shut. I could feel his cool breath fanning my neck, which felt way too exposed at the moment. The hesitation lasted about a millisecond and then, I felt two sharp points directly over my jugular vein.
The needle-sharp points pierced my skin, making me gasp and tense up.. But, then everything felt.. Strangely nice.. Weightless. I lay there, still, for another moment, before I remembered what was actually happening.
A vampire. Was biting my throat. My eyes flung open and I got ready to shove at the blonde man.. But, he wasn’t there.. Well, not in the forest. But, neither was I.
