Renan sighed as he sat up on the couch. He had fallen asleep watching TV. He scratched the back of his head and walked into his room. Since it was the first day of school, he quickly got out some jeans and a new T-shirt he had gotten for school. when finished, he knocked on the door across from his room. "You awake?" he called, a bit irritated.

"Yup!" Zai said, his tone a little too cheerful, like he was feeling extremely hyper that day. A few empty Starbucks coffee cups were strewn around his room, so that explained it. He pulled on some socks, then grabbed a random jacket from his closet, hurrying to open the door. "Can we get some coffee along the way?" he asked.

Renan made an irritated face and slapped the back of Zai's head. "No, now let's go." He then walked to the front door, opened it and left it open.

"Ow," Zai said, though the slap didn't really hurt him much. "Alright, I'm coming," he said, grabbing his backpack and a can of soda from the fridge, which he was determined to finish before they got to school. He walked out the door behind Renan, kicking it close behind him.

"Do you have the keys?" Renan asked quickly. He put his hand in his jeans pocket. His backpack bounced on his back as he walked.

"Of course," Zai said, dangling the keys in front of Renan's face, then putting them back in his front pocket. "I'm not gonna lock us out of the house," he added, chuckling lightly.
