A person is raised to believe that all those of the Jewish faith are scum that walk the Earth, evil greedy poisoners of childeren and that they should be slaughtered. Because I'm fairly sure a while back in Nazi Germany this is what happened a lot, so I'm going to take this as a realistic example.
But, because they were brought up this way it's alright for them to have this kind of moral understanding.

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
This verse stands true.
Actually, I turned out very different than how I was raised to be. I know several people who have. I personally believe one shouldn't take on the opinions of their parents automatically. They should obey their parents rules while living under their roof, sure. But once they're of age to start developing their own opinion, I personally don't think it's wise to just take the opinion of your family before educating yourself first to form your own opinion. Just like with me... I'm proud to say I came to God on my own terms. It was not something I just accepted because my family did. I educated myself and eventually came to God on my own terms.. which is what I think we all should do. I think it's healthy to question and gain knowledge.
About the body modifications... to you, it may seem pointless or even wrong. However many people like to have them for different reasons. It's all unique to the person. My reason for wanting them is I like to express myself in the way I look. I do enjoy shock value and I think piercings can be attractive. Some people even enjoy the pain of getting pierced or tattooed. Honestly, I think body modification is a form of art. A body is like a canvas. Those are just my views, however.

One of the great experiences of growing up is realizing that while parents are often right, they can also be often wrong.
Critical thought isn't the enemy of Christianity. Please don't shun it. And especially please do not turn this thread into feminism-bashing. It makes me die a little inside.

If you're going to expose sexist, racist, etc etc beliefs, please expect to be challenged.
That pretty much goes for anyone in any thread. There's some stuff that I just don't tolerate; outright sexism is one of them. If anything I feel like I have a moral duty to not smile and nod and go "oh, that's nice, dearie" when/if a person promotes ideas that can cause such harm.

As far as I knew, this thread was for posting prayer requests and chatting. And like Harpalyce said... if someone posts those kinds of beliefs, they're usually challenged in some way. I see people chatting and expressing opinions... not debating.
