"You are a toxin to society... We cannot let you go home... home..."
"No! I can't stay here. Where even am I?" My parents!
"They have already been told you are dead. No one expects a little boy who falls into a toxic waste dump to survive..." "Strange effects... never thought... wings perhaps?... too bad about his eyesight...." "Not like he'll need it." "Still, too bad..."
"Where am I? Why is it so dark?"
"Contain the boy... breath radiates..." "we need to mark him. So no one will mistake him for anything but a toxin." "dye his fur..."
"No! Where...?"
The boy awoke in total darkness, a burning pain on his hip.

Footsteps. His heightened hearing picked them up quickly, then he felt them vibrating the ground. Someone was coming, hopefully with the daily food. And the daily dose of radiation. Can't forget that little gem. He'd long ago figured out that he wasn't toxic at all, but rather an interesting experiment. He'd begun to mutate after his first, accidental dose, and with more, daily doses, the mutation had completed. He had wings. It would be enough to make up for his lost eyesight, if they didn't keep him cooped up, unable to fly higher than twice his height.
the door swung open, and the worker stepped in. Rather than food, however, another dog was thrown in with him. The door swung shut. the other dog got up. From the sound of its pawsteps, the newcomer was afull-sized adult, but light on its paws.
"Hello?" A female voice rang out. He'd almost forgotten what females sounded like. The dog who delivered his daily food was male, and even he rarely spoke.
"And who are you?" His own voice scraped from underuse.
"I am Dusk. Who are you?" The voice seemed hesitant, but friendly enough.
"I'm the toxin they keep locked away down here."
"But your name. What's your name?"
"I don't remember." there was a moment of silence between them.
"You have wings."
So she could see? "Tell me, Dusk. Is there light in this room?"
"Can't you tell?" Her voice sounded perplexed.
"I am blind. But you must not be. You saw my wings. Is there light in here?"
"Yes and no. they don't light it, if that's what you mean. But I glow..."
Meh, maybe I'll write more later. My brain just died.
Inspired by flipping through my pets and noticing the winged one. His eyes are clouded, and he has wings, which kind of look like mutations... which led me to think that he and the glowy pup are both radiation victims...

Yea, she was in love with him, but that didn’t matter. He didn’t feel the same way about her, so there wasn’t much she could do about it. He was her best friend and she wasn’t going to let anything mess that up. She could be friends with someone she was in love with, right?
