He had been her protector from the very beginning, since the day her father and mother had locked her in this tower for reasons unknown to the princess herself. They had assigned him watch over her, to make sure no harm came her way. He was to fight off anyone who came near until the day that the prince arrived that was destined to "rescue" her.
That day had come, though she had needed no rescuing of any sort, for the young princess had fallen in love with her dragon protector. He had been there for her since day one; he had sworn an oath of protection over her. Though he could not speak to her, as he was a dragon,it had turned out that speaking was not necessary. She could see the love deep within his eyes whenever he returned to her window after a day's work of patrolling the lands. There was a gentleness in his movements when he was near her and through the years, he had continued to quietly love his princess, knowing what his fate would one day be.
---
When the heroic prince finally arrived, on the day the girl turned 16, the dragon awoke knowing what the rising sun would bring. He flew to the girl's window one last time and looked lovingly into her eyes before nodding his final farewell. She called his name and stroked the scales on the side of his face before kissing his snout. She smiled at him and it took every ounce of energy in him to contain his tears.
He felt the pain before the arrow hit its mark. Plummeting to the ground below, he lay in a pool of his own blood. He heard the princess cry out and he struggled to open his eyes as he felt her touch on his face. He could faintly make out the disbelief and disgusted tone of the prince who had slain him. He gazed into the tear-filled eyes of his beautiful princess one last time before closing his eyes forever. The final sounds he heard were the heart-broken sobs of the girl he had quietly loved for sixteen years.
Quietly, but strongly.

...-goes to cry in corner now-
That was short, but...it helped make it gut wrenchingly sad. </3

!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!If you have
not read my IllusionxNevemore story, do so now. This is a sequel.
Click to read the original
Illusion [♂] && Nevermore [♂]
Illusion never forgot.
Years passed, people came in and out of his life.
He met new friends, new faces, new loves.
But they were never the same; they could never replace him.
No one ever could.
But then....
Something happened.
Something unpredictable
Something unbelievable.
Something unforgettable.
Reality and imaginary are two separate worlds.
When one leaves the other, somethings bound to be sacrificed.
Black feathers wilted and fell, unneeded and unwanted.
The price he was more then willing to pay.
When your perception of what's real and what's not is changed,
The chance of other things changing is almost unavoidable.
Gold faded to blue; perhaps to match the new sky he stood beneath.
Perhaps as punishment for all the tears he'd made the boy cry.
But such sacrifices must be made for the sake of your goal.
And in the end, what's a little loss for how much you gain?
"Hello, Illusion...."
Gold eyes met blue; and his heart skipped a beat.

"Did you miss me?"
What do I have to lose?
-------
In all honesty, I was never intending to write a sequel to this story.
But the new black dog pushed my hand x3

I just read the first one as I hadn't yet, and then followed it up with the new, and it was amazing, and I love how you've added the sequel. It flows perfectly and is wonderfully written
