I wanna join. :)
"At the foot of Mount Tibor, surrounded and outnumbered,
the Order's only chance lay in this sword - the Runeblade.
Image

The weapon was borne by the warrior Heron, and the dragon, Arokh.
As the armies clashed, Navaros entered a mystic trance,
drawing power for a massive spell of destruction.
With the stolen strength of his dragon's soul,
Navaros had grown far mightier than any mage before him.
As the words of destruction rose to his lips,
a lone dragon came shrieking from the clouds,
weaving amidst the streams of lightning and fire that flooded the sky.
On Arokh's back, Heron gripped the Runeblade in both hands,
and with one final cry,
drove it deep into Navaros' blackened heart.
All sound went silent somehow, in the moment of the act.
The tremendous forces Navaros had summoned were unleashed without direction.
The clash of swords was heard no longer, and blackness hung over the field.
When at last the smoke cleared, the two great armies lay decimated.
Where Navaros had stood, a wound-like rip had been torn in the very fabric of space.
In the smouldering crater below, Heron lay dead, the Runeblade broken in two at his side.
In that blackened pit, only the dragon Arokh still clung to life..."

of Arokh the Hero

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Wolves are the most popular and overrated animal on the Internet. They are misunderstood the other way.

Actually grey wolves only get a quick bullet to the head, before the brain can even register pain.
Tell me how that's worse/the same as shark finning.

And regulated hunting only affects around 15% of the population whereas 25% is needed to even make a dent in the population.

Also, wolves have so much support, and get tons of donations, while sharks are still misjudged because of movies like Jaws; here is a list of ten shark films, and I don't think any don't portray sharks as killer monsters.

Sorry it was 5 pages ago, just saw no one replied.

Well I guess your right, but their still a little alike in my head. I used to hate sharks after watching Jaws, and dreaming that I'd be eaten by one. Now I know how they are misjudged, and you never know, I might go swimming with one. ( Zozo-nuggets! Get yours today! Nice, bloody, and fresh! )

I used to do that too, before I learned that the hook usually hurts the fish and that they can get very seriously injured, sometimes even resulting in death... so now I think it's wrong :(

That still freaks me out, and I usually do my best not to kill the fish. As soon as it gets hooked, I take it out as gently as I could. Then I set it in some water and watch its swim, poke it, then let it go.

Why argue about which is worse? They're both horrible. I realize that shark finning is a painful death, and not a quick death as in wolf hunting. But in both, the animal dies. What's wrong with wolves being misunderstood "the other way"? Plenty of people still hate them; they aren't overrated and popular. Yes, maybe on websites like this one, but not on some others. However, wolf appreciation has drastically improved. I wish people would just START thinking about sharks the same way.
I realize many people aren't afraid of sharks (Including me; I would LOVE to see a shark while scuba diving). But plenty others are afraid because we know very little about sharks. Wolves are easy to follow and study. They live on land, and you can pen them in if necessary. But sharks? We don't live underwater (obviously) therefore, it makes it a lot harder to study them; plus it's almost impossible to pen them without having a serious impact on the ocean. And another thing- wolves are "cuter" and more familiar than sharks by a long shot. They have fur, give birth to puppies, and have families, like people. These things allow humans to feel close to wolves. We can attempt to understand them. Sharks, however, have huge teeth, "evil" looking eyes, and are always hungry. They are not "cute." Is it their fault? Do they "hunt" humans because they like the taste? Of course not. They look the way they are because they are superbly adapted to their enviornment. Humans get bitten by accident most of the time. Usually on a surfboard, they look like seals. In the water, they splash, much like an injured fish, AKA an easy meal. Wolves raise their pups like we raise children. Sharks leave their pups to fend for themselves, seen sometimes as uncaring and cruel. That's how they survive best; no one to show them mercy-the ocean never will. Don't get me wrong, I believe the ocean is beautiful and amazing, but the ocean is a dangerous, unforgiving habitat. Sharks can't afford to be cautions when they attack; it's all or nothing, you might say. However, usually when a shark bites into a human, it lets go soon afterward. Humans just don't taste good, it seems. Sharks use their mouths to test things, where as a wolf uses its nose to smell. Sharks don't have hands (duh); they cannot test things to see if they're good to eat. If they did, the prey would get away everytime.
I'm gonna end here, as this has gone on for a long time. But please, don't think as shark finning worse than wolf hunting. They are both cruel. I hope that sharks will be viewed as wolves. They are both predators, and they will kill ruthlessly when they need to. But only to survive. They're not a threat to civilization- Can we not live together, or is it too hard to stop the human's violent, destructive nature?

(One last thing-- "The Summer of the Shark" is completely retarded. It has been proven that more people have been spending more time in the water-how is it possible to avoid sharks in that case? More people in the water means more bitten. The sharks did not all randomly decide to go bite a bunch of people. We moved in on their territory...and we must pay the price.)

 Wooo, great little post there. It really evened out my opinion about the two matters.
Could I actually feature that on the front page to avoid arguements? It seems some are starting to boil a bit...

I'll try and update the list tonight, but no guaranties, I haven't been on much this summer.

Shark finning is absolutely disgusting and horrifying. I am not against eating meat. I am not against hunting (though I could never do it, and it should be done within the limits of what an ecosystem can handle). To brutally mutilate an animal...ANY ANIMAL...and then let it die a slow and horrible death is just barbaric! It is also exceptionally wasteful. I am a firm believer in using all of the parts that can possibly be used. If you can eat the fin, you can surely eat the entire shark. Why waste a whole, beautiful animal for just a fin?

Sharks have been around a lot longer than many of the animals on this planet. Cartilage fish used to be the predominant type of fish in the oceans. Now, due to cruel methods and overharvesting, we are threatening these amazing animals. Did you know that sharks have characteristics somewhat like warm-blooded animals? Their circulatory system is designed to keep portions of their body (such as their eyes and brains) above the ambient temperature. Sharks are the wolves of the ocean. They are apex predators, and an ecosystem's health can be judged by how well sharks are faring.

Did you know there are over 360 species of sharks, and of those, only 35 have EVER been reported as having attacked humans! Only about a dozen do so on a regular basis. That is less than 10% of all shark species that have EVER attacked a human, and less than 5% that do so on a regular basis.

My favourite shark? The goblin shark. Who does not love an ugly shark that can project its jaw outward in front of it? :P

Death is death is death. And the grey wolves aren't the only wolves hunted and poached. What about Red Wolves? Ethiopian wolves?

How is this relevant?
Grey wolves are not endangered, and must and should be hunted regularly so they don't overpopulate, thus killing off their prey and thus themselves.
Red and Ethiopian wolves are endangered, and don't need to be hunted.
Ethiopian wolves are rarely poached, their main concern is habitat loss.
And sometimes wolves don't get the quick death some people think. They're chased down by airplanes, have their feet caught in traps, are shot and then bleed to death as they run off, etc.

Note how I said things like 'almost always' and 'normally'.
I am against aerial hunting, so I was talking about normal hunting.
I believe traps are necessary when a wolf becomes a local problem, i.e. taking livestock.
cows aren't endangered...yet.

Why would cows ever go extinct/endangered?
They are food animals in quite a few countries, and even holy in places like India.
NO SPECIES IS GREATER THAN THE OTHER.

So I'm equal to a fruit fly?

If you were in a burning building, who would you save, if you could;
A pot of daisies or a dog?

sorry for EXTREMELY late response, forgot about this thread ;p
