Lady Fortune wrote:You ever wonder what happens to you when you die? Well, I have a little idea of it. People die at all ages, and of all types of causes. Sometimes it's by injury, sometimes it's by disease.
But sometimes, old men and women just die in their sleep.
Sometimes, old people just die without warning in their sleep. They were perfectly healthy, just old. There really is no explanation for why they die, but they just die. There was a little test done in the 1950's, to see if they could explain this. They took 10 test subjects who were at least 80 years old, and asked them if they would stay here, in this facility, until they died. These people were particularly aged; you could tell they didn't have long left.
As each one died, something peculiar happened. Just before their heart stopped, their brain readings became incredibly erratic. But, they still matched a certain pattern. They matched the pattern of a person having a nightmare. But, this was like nothing they've ever seen. These readings were like the readings of someone having the worst nightmare anyone had ever seen. Their faces stayed so perfectly calm, along with their bodies... but they were not calm.
But, one of the test subjects survived. He seemed like a very resilient man. He had the brain readings, same as the others, but his heart did not stop. Instead, he woke up with a scream, and jerked up violently. The scientists rushed to him, and asked what had happened in his mind. He said it was the most terrifying thing anyone could ever see. He said that it was the reason people die in their sleep. He said that dying in your sleep was not peaceful. He said it was the worst experience you could ever have. And as he was about to tell them... his eyes rolled back in his head, and he collapsed onto the bed. He had died from exhaustion. His heart collapsed completely.
The scientists were baffled. The project was stopped there. They refused to put any more people through this experience. The results were locked away, and the project was hidden away from the eyes of the world. It was lost in the government machine, for the public never to see. But, one of the scientists was not satisfied with this. Many years later, that same scientist was of the age where he could die in his sleep. He remembered the project years ago, and decided to find out what the old man was about to tell them. He spent quite some time preparing his old heart for anything that could come at it. He wanted to make sure he stayed alive through this. One night he went to sleep, same as always. But this dream was different. He was in the dark. But there was a small light emanating from what seemed to be a bathroom.
He seemed to be drawn towards it. He couldn't stop himself from walking towards it. He opened the door. There was one small flickering light, a dirty looking mirror, a broken down toilet and a shower, which seemed to be in the same condition. The floor was cold concrete. There was a sink. He felt himself forced to wash his face with the water. It seemed perfectly normal. He looked up from the sink into the mirror, and saw himself. He looked perfectly normal as well. He wiped his face off, and reopened his eyes, and saw his reflection again. But it was much, much different this time.
The person in the reflection seemed to be him... but it was different. It was as if someone had taken him out of the grave around 6 months later. The figure was decayed, but still retained some resemblance to him. The scientist was paralyzed with fear. But not paralyzed enough to stop from fufilling an incredible urge to reach out towards it. He slowly moved his hand towards the mirror. But, instead of having his hand stopped by cold glass, it kept going towards the figure. He whipped his hand back with incredible shock and fear. The figure slowly started to speak. He said in a raspy, degraded version of the scientist's voice "E-everyone h-h-has their time. Y-y-you were lucky enough to last this long. B-but your time has come... prepare y-yourself" the figure moved towards him. He looked for any escape whatsoever. But the door had disappeared. He was trapped in that room. His fear completely froze him from any movement. It suddenly rushed at him, screaming with a more terrifying scream than you could have ever imagined in your entire lifetime. As soon as it made contact with him, he woke up. He sat up violently, heaving massive breaths.
The scientist realized immediately what he has just experienced. He quickly grabbed a piece of blank paper that was sitting on the desk next to him. He had prepared this beforehand, just in case. He scribbled out these words as quickly as he could, for he knew that his heart was about to collapse. The paper said "DIE BEFORE YOU SLEEP". He then threw the paper and pencil down, and expected to die right then. But he didn't. But he looked over to the exit from his room. Standing in that exit was the figure from his nightmare.
The figure whispered "Y-you didn't think you c-could get away that e-e-easily did you?" The scientist's eyes widened with terrible fear. He managed to whisper "What.. what are you?" The figure rushed towards the side of his bed, and whispered in his ear "I am god". And with those words, the scientist died.
The scientist was a lonely man. All of his family was dead, and he had but one friend. Nobody found the body for months. But, one day, his friend came to visit. He went to his house, and knocked on the door. No answer. After a few seconds, he smelled an incredibly horrid stench coming from the house. He walked around to the back, and looked in the bedroom window. Inside, it was dark. But he could make out the decaying figure of his friend, who had been in there, dead for months. The figure almost exactly matched the one that had caused him to die. He called the cops, and they picked up his body. The cause of death was simply labeled "Old Age". But they found the paper next to his bed. It was filed away in evidence, and there were a few local newspaper stories about it. And so everyone kept on believing that dying of old age was natural, and dying in your sleep was the most painless method to go by.

Well, good for them.

Is that true in any way?

Yeah, I want to know too. I saw lots of pictures of people's decayed faces, and in a movie my teacher showed me about two years ago in third grade where someone dead is being tortured by... Well my teacher says it's the devil. But I want to know if dying in your sleep or being tortured by the devil is more painfull.

Well, I guess if you're tired and it's late, you wouldn't realize. But then, she/he ain't me.

You got a point it is more of a monster movie type story

Well, I sort of used my definition of ghosts: I've never seen ghosts as a white... Thing. More like a black, formless thing. A master of it's own form. Because white is a pure colour, and most ghosts are anything but pure.
But I guess it depends on the person reading it. I've read some scary stories with monsters in it too on /x/ - so if you see him as a monster, it's fine. Then it just isn't a ghost story, right? ^^

I hope I spelled your name right. Anyways, the story was quite cool, I guess you could sort of classify it as...Um, maybe creepy? I don't think it would fit under scary.

Just call me Mikas if you like - it's easier.
Again, I think it'd depend on your point of view whether or not it's scary. Can they be both? I don't know. I tried to develop the plot a bit like some of those posted on /x/ - which I'd gladly dig out if you're interested in reading those.
I think you'd find that scary stories on /x/ can be just about everything. A sort of news article even. ^^

Either way, I merely wrote a story about what scared me the most, while trying not to freak myself out too much. And if I gave anyone goose bumps or an idea for another - maybe better - story, then it's fine by me too.

Thanks, yes, from your point of view, I do see that ghosts wouldn't exactly be a pure white color, but they may be a dull but slightly lighter color than gray. They would probably be a very dull white, with some gray mixed in.

I can't write horror stories, I'm horrible. If you do, however, want to see more of my better writing that actually makes sense, most of my stuff is here:
viewtopic.php?f=57&t=742732
Though, to make this post not spammy, I'll try to write a little bit:
The sun set lower and lower into the mountains, yet the three scouts were still stubborn on the idea of climbing the bad luck mountain, "Old Bad Luck". They soon found a little wooden house where an old grandfather lived. When he heard that the cub scouts were going to climb the mountain, he gasped. "Don't! You shouldn't, it is bad luck! If you climb, when you climb the first time, one of you will die! When you climb the third time, all of you will be dead!"

But the boys didn't listen.

Climbing higher and higher into the steep mountain, one boy got tired and sat down. But they kept going and the boy had no time to rest.

That was a great story, Mikas. It was really cool. Here's a story from Creepypasta.com. It's really long by the way.
I wouldn't say it is especially scary, but I think it's good. It's from the 'Rites and Rituals' section.
-------------------------------------------
Scribblings In The Well
These bizarre instructions were found etched into the wall at the bottom of an old well, somewhere in rural Germany. They have been translated to the best of my abilities:

Somewhere in Europe, there is an empty field of grass. Amongst the long, unkempt grass is a wooden hatch in the ground. The hatch guards an old storm shelter, but this is not your destination. In order to gain access to the alternate opening, you must spill your own blood over the doors. You will awaken at the edge of field; the doors will now be made of rusted iron. You may now enter the hatch.

There will be a long, narrow shaft stretching deep into empty darkness. You must climb down a ladder fixed to the northern wall, keeping your eyes upward at the opening.

If you are to glance downward into the darkness, then return your gaze upward, you will find yourself ten rungs away from where you started. If you look any longer downward, the echoing sound of someone climbing up the ladder will reach your ears, and a rotten, weather-beaten version of yourself will pull at your legs until you fall.

After an undetermined amount of time climbing down; your feet will reach a floor. Keep facing upwards, if you look at your feet; there will be no floor. You must now choose your path.

LEFT

Reaching into the darkness to your left, you will feel a cold metal plate mounted on a concrete wall. Keep your hand on this plate, within the course of ten minutes it will rise to an excruciating heat and your hand will be burned. Do not remove your hand until the plate cools once again and lights click on. You may now turn around.

You will find yourself in a long corridor, there will be a door corresponding to each year of your life on both sides. At the opposite wall will be a door marked ‘PRESENT’. If you enter this door, you will find yourself ahead in your life to three minutes before your death. You must find the door marked with the year that you found most fortunate. Should you pick the wrong door, you will relive that year, but every space in which you did not stand will be torn away to reveal fire beneath. When the year finishes, you will be back at the door, as if you had not opened it.

If you are to pick the correct year, you will enter an enormous space of undetermined size. Darkness will surround all but a straight line through the room. The door behind you will cease to be there if you check behind you. You must follow the lit path through this area for one hundred minutes. Along the way you will regularly encounter loved ones, trapped in rusted metal torture devices. They will beg and scream for you to help them. You must ignore their pleas and keep moving. If you help even one of these people; the exit door will vanish and never reappear.

Should you reach the end of this area, there will be a scratched door with your name engraved upon it. Enter this door and you will awaken in the storm cellar, the original form of this place. You may now leave.

RIGHT

Reaching to the wall on your right will yield different results. You will feel a warm, moist wall of soft flesh. Keep feeling around until you feel a hole in the wall, plunge your hand into it. After thirty seconds, you will be bitten and blood removed from your wound. Keep your hand there until the pressure stops. Your eyes will suddenly adjust to light you never noticed before, you may turn around.

You will see a long corridor paved with pulsing skin, flesh and muscle. On both sides of this corridor, you should see torn openings that stretch inwards deeply. Cool air will gently flow from each opening rhythmically as if it is breathing. At the end of the hallway, you will see a door marked with your mother’s name, awkwardly incorporated into the wall of flesh.

Never enter this door.

You must look for the opening from which hot air is breathed. If you enter the wrong opening, the tunnel will never end and you cannot return.

Should you enter the correct opening; the tunnel will become gradually wider and more humid. There will be hands pushing through from both sides, stretching the wall trying to reach you. Keep away from them, and do not turn around. Every so often you will find an ideal partner, sitting in the centre of the tunnel. They will beg you to stay with them, ignore them. If you stay with them, they will devour you from the waist up.

After one hundred minutes in this place, you will reach a hole leading to a far narrower tunnel, enter this hole and crawl as fast as you can. The hands can now reach you and will caress you gently from behind the thin flesh. If you stop, they will drag you down.

As you progress the light will gradually fade and your heartbeat will become louder until it reaches an almost deafening volume. Open your eyes; you will be lying in the foetal position on the floor of the storm shelter. You may now leave.

If you chose the left path; you will receive complete financial security until you die, but your hand will throb painfully once a day.

If you chose the right path; you will be considered popular and charismatic by everyone you meet, but you will be plagued by nightmares of the tunnel.

If you attempt this ritual twice, you will never awaken from those nightmares.

New Doll.

A young girl named Molly went was walking down the street with her mother when in the window of a shop a beautiful doll caught her eye. Molly behed her mother to buy her it and of cours. She did. Molly brought home the doll and played with it all day. When night came, Molly left her new doll at the bottom of the stairs before she went up to bed and quickly fell asleep.

A couple minutes later Molly woke up to the sound of a voice.
"Molly I'm on the first step"
Molly was alittle frightened but she fell back asleep.

A couple minutes later Molly woke up to the sound of a voice.
"Molly I'm on the Third step"
Molly was more frightened but she fell back asleep.

A couple minutes later Molly woke up to the sound of a voice.
"Molly I'm on the Sixth step"
Molly was very frightened but she pulled the covers over her head and fell back asleep.

A couple minutes later Molly woke up to the sound of a voice.
"Molly I'm on the last step"
Molly was shaking with fear she closed her eyes very tight and sat there with the covers over her head.

A couple minutes later Molly hear the sound of a voice.
"Molly I'm on your bed."
Molly looked out from under the cover to see her dolly standing on the edge of the bed.

"Molly I'm going to kill you."

In the morning Molly's mother went in her room to wake her. She discovered the blood smeared bed and outside the window was little Molly hanging dead from the tree. The doll sat on the window sill smiling her evil smile.

In rural Wisconsin, there is an old abandoned park. Built in the 1920s, it served as the town’s gathering place for everyone.

That is, until a newly developed Train and Tunnel for Tots™ ride was installed in 1932. It was an innocent looking childish train, with one main (mechanized) head car, with three small trolleys pulled behind it. It went around some loops before going into a small tunnel.

But this is where the story gets weird. There were numerous cases of child deaths that year, all of them happening after the child rode on that train system. Some kids went missing in that short tunnel (about ten feet), and others went comatose after leaving. One, upon exiting, was found to be dead. Her dress was covered in what looked like small bloody handprints. Some killed themselves by scratching at their throats until they bled out, and one of them even killed another child before hanging herself with razor wire at the family’s farm.

The park was closed, and the town’s popularity as a tourist town plummeted.

Recently, a team of scientists were sent out to the park. They taped a video camera to the train, and put a new intern in with it, before sending it on its way onto the tracks.

When the train left the tunnel, it was empty, except for the camera.

The last ten seconds were nothing but static, save for the sound of children laughing.
