My Story-Entry
Rayo woke to the sound of thunder. His eyes slowly opened, and he glanced around. The sky in the distance was a combination of pink and white, dawn. His favorite time of the day.
It took a minute to feel the stiffness in his body from hunting last night. He winced, the subtly pain was in his jaw and legs. He stretched his front legs out as he recalled the hunt. The dark night had hung over them like a large shadow, and the moon had been blindly bright. He, Soraya, and Dax had gone hunting for a group of moose that lived only a few miles from their home. They had done well, bringing home a decent size one to feed their pack. Soraya…Soraya!
Rayo snapped out of memory and quickly glanced around, his breathing ragged. When he turned out Soraya was laying in a peaceful sleep. He sighed and bent down, nuzzling her softly and then turning to get out for an early morning walk to get the stiffness out of his limbs.
The forest looked beautiful this time of day as Rayo walked the familiar path to the river for a drink. He scented another Warrior when he was a mile away, he stopped then wagged his tail slightly at the scent of Tira. He started to jog, ignoring the little shoots of pain in his paws. When she came into view Tira was lapping from the river, the sun dappling her beautiful fur. Rayo barked out a greeting and Tira looked up. She wagged her tail in return then walked up the pebbly bank to him.
“It’s a nice dawn today.” Tira spoke softly, glancing at the river again.
“I agree.” Rayo nodded and walked past her to get a drink. While he was drinking, he saw Tira glance at him before sprinting back down the trail home. He smiled to himself, his sister usually didn’t say much.
Tira watched Rayo start to drink before turning around and sprinting down the trail. She loved the feel of the gravel and soft soil under her paws, which reminded her of her brother’s obvious stiffness this morning. Hunting.
She shrugged the thought of him away and- Ow!
Tira growled as she was flung onto the side of the trail, a big lump of fur ambushing her. She then growled playfully as she quickly recognized Faolan.
“Faolon get off me!”
“No.” Faolon barked happily and wrestled with Tira until Tira finally pushed her off. She smiled at her sister. Faolon smiled back and wagged her tail heartbeat fast.
“Loosen up, Tira. You used to love to play!” Faolon smiled.
“Whatever. Did you follow me?” Tira asked bodly.
“Yes.” Faolon continued smiling and turned around, “Race you.” She ran a few yards before turning back. Tira was holding up, watching her. “Come on Tira. Please” Tira then began bounding and when she reached Faolon they both sped up. Tearing grass up as they went.
Faolan knew she was happiest when Tira was having fun. She laughed and decided to let her sister beat her, this time. She slowed a little as they reached home, and Tira barked in victory.
“I won!” Tira seemed to glow with pride. She then went to the moose to get her morning meal. She hadn’t been hungry earlier but the race had opened her belly to hunger. Faolan spotted Max sitting alone across camp. She walked over to him.
“Greetings Max.”
“Greetings Faolan.”
Faolan was about to say more when she heard Dax barking for her. She turned around and went over to him.
Dax watched Max, he thought he needed to be more social. He turned to Faolan.
“Want to go for a swim or something? I haven’t planned my day yet.”
Faolan nodded, thinking.
“Well I was actually going to try and see if Max would hunt with me. Sorry Dax.”
Dax nodded and walked away.
Dax went to the river and swam. He loved the feel of the water washing through his fur. He heard a something and swam around to turn around. His eyes were wide and his ears alert. He thought he saw a flash of something but shook his head to clear his mind. When he looked again a group of maybe 3 Kronadors were standing on the opposite bank. Dax hurriedly swam to the bank and barked as loud as he could.
Faolan, Tira, Max, Rayo, and several other wolves heads shot up. Ears perked. They heard Dax’s warning and help cry. With Faolan in lead a group of WOI sped into the forest. When they got close to the river they could see through the tree’s that Dax was swimming across the river towards the Kronadors. Before they were into sight Faolan stopped the group. She quickly explained a strategy and they spread out, hidden, along the banks of the river. Faolan keened and the wolves charged across the water, anger flashing in their eyes.
Of course, Faolan was first to reach the bank. She saw the Kronadors turn as they saw the whole pack and they sprinted into the forest away from them. Dax was almost on them as the pack raced 10-15 feet behind.
Max felt his heart race loudly. He growled, and sprinted faster. He caught up to one as Dax was going for the Kronador next to it. Max leaped at the Kronador and his teeth tore through its hide. He saw Faolan get the 3rd one and the Kronador’s were on the ground fast. As the wolves tore into them, Dax suddenly barked a “backoff.” The wolves backed off still growling. Blood dripping from their muzzles.
“This is unfair, the numbers. We let you, Kronador’s off with a warning. Consider yourself lucky.” Two Kronador’s struggled and quickly got up, but one lay still. The two shed quick tears for the loss and fled deep into the forest.
“You shouldn’t have let them go!” Rayo wailed angrily.
“It wasn’t a fair fight.” Dax spoke slowly. “Let’s go home.” With minor cut and injuries the pack turned and went home.
The Kronador’s wails echoed in their heads…All the way back home.
