You were a child who was made of glass;
you carried a black heart passed down from your dad.

They'd been together for a long time; Alicia was two years Elizabeth's senior and yet they were inseparable, two good friends who understood everything about each other. The foster home was a cold, unforgiving place, but by staying together they did just fine. Liz had been orphaned for as long as she could remember-- Alicia, on the other hand, still had fond memories of her mother (her father had left when she was only one), her brother, and her old friends.

They might've been completely, drastically different before, but the time had passed.

"Alicia!"

The girl turned her head to see her friend run towards her, a small red ball in her hands.

"C'mon, Alicia, let's go play dodgeball with Tom and the rest of 'em," Liz urged as she pulled at Alicia's hand. She was shocked, however, when Alicia pulled away and shook her head, blond curls bobbing wildly. "Not now," She said.

"Eh? Whaddaya mean not n-" She was silenced immediately when she saw one of the caretakers walk out the open door of the foster care building and approach them.

"Alicia, Mrs. Fitch is ready to see you now."
The girl nodded and followed her into the building, leaving Elizabeth standing in the cold.

"What...?"

"Liz! Liz!"

"Mmhmm?" The girl mumbled as Alicia hugged her, a happy smile written all over her face.

"Guess what?"

"What?" She asked-- her fingers were crossed, but she already knew.

"My mom's back!"
She had been expecting something of the sort, but she froze anyway; it couldn't be. "...b-back?"

Her friend nodded, once, twice, smiling so brightly that it seemed that she couldn't sense the dread, the crestfallen expression that hung over her friend's face.
"She was away at war, you see! She and my brother were gone, but now they're back!"

"Oh..."
