The horse threw up it's head, tossing the finely chiselled features left to right, avoiding the uncertain hands of the man beside him.
The man owned an entire kingdom, ruled it with fierce disdain; yet could not get a bit into his stallion's mouth without a fight.
"For goodness sake, Fuego. Stop being difficult." He exclaimed, after a particularly passionate escape attempt.

"You are doing it wrong. Stand to his side, be careful with him. That bit is too severe."
Her voice was soft, and the King turned to see a young woman leaning against the door of the stable, eyeing him with a serene expression.
She entered, grasping the bridle in one hand.
Before he knew it, the leather was up and over the horse's head, and Fuego stood with his head resting in her arms- dozing.
"You'll need some work; this horse is afraid of you."
The King almost laughed in disbelief, staring at the muscular mass of stallion in front of him. Fuego wasn't scared of anything.
"Scared? Of me? I haven't done anything to hurt him."
She smiled softly;
"You don't need to."

She was called Diana.
She was an effortless horsewoman- she conveyed what she wanted to the horse, and the King swore that they could talk.
Fuego and he were no longer battling, wit against wit;
Instead they worked together.
As was bound to happen, Diana bid them part, one summer evening.
"Remember, listen." She had said.

Walking back from the far field, the King found himself face to face with the horsemaster of the yard.
He grinned;
"Your Diana taught me so much- amazing, isn't she? Thank you for sending her."
The horsemaster grew pale, shaky.
"Diana was killed in a horse riding accident last year, sir."
He whispered softly.
