Edit: I was going to color, but the color for the cat isn't coming up over the background, and I don't know HOW to use Lock Alpha!

In the layer template area you can scroll and view all the layers to pick from. Right above there is an unchecked box that says lock alpha next to it. Click the box to check lock alpha and the you should be able to color in using lock alpha. I hope this helped. Let me know if you have any questions.

You should have a list of layers. The ones that are being used have a black dot next to them while the ones not being used have an empty dot. Just unclick the longhair lines and base layers and then click the shorthair ones. Hope this helps!
