You would not believe you eyes,
If ten million f i r e f l i e s,
lit up the walls as you (f.ell) asleep...
Marni woke again to teh rapping on the window. It happened every night, and every night it scared her. Her mother wouldn't listen to her when she told them that something wanted to come in.
It was a blustery autumn night and the rapping on the window started once again. Marni pulled the covers over her head and held her teddy bear tight. After a few persistent rappings, she got up, the blanket wrapped around her and Teddy clutched in her hands. She opened the shades and looked out into the night.
What she saw on the sill was not what she expected.
He was a beautiful creature. A yellow cloak wrapped around him, and a mask of silver upon his face. His tail glowed a bright yellow. He gave Marni a gentle smile below flapping his wings and flying away.
Marni watched the place where the mysterious man had been in awe. The next night, when the mysterious man came, she opened her window and let him in.
The man never spoke to her, but his gentle eyes always said what no words could. She snuck some bread and cheese up to the man and he ate.
Every night the man visited, Marni was at he her happiest. She loved to sit across from the man and smiling at him, just smiling. It was like telepathy through which they communicated, a connection like no other.
Soon the man came less and less, and Marni grew sadder and sadder. Soon, he never came at all.
Weeks, months, years passed, and Marni always would open her window and leave the bread and cheese out for him, juts in case he decided to drop in. After a while, she stopped even that. She grew more and more depressed, not taking interest in anything.
The night before her wedding day was the night he came back. Her face lit up as it never had in the longest of times. She went down adn got some bread and cheese for him and they sat across from eachother, like they had when Marni was very small. The man didn't smile at all. As he got up to leave, Marni grabbed his arm.
"Please, don't leave." she pleaded.
The man gave her the same gentle smile he had when they first met. "I love you, my dearest Marni." he said, almost a whisper. He flew out the window and did not ever return.
