Ok. I understand the need to protect ones works from copying. There are people out there who really don't care or are complete butts and will steal anything (yes even a few pixels on a screen). But at what point is a watermark too intrusive? And is it really essential? Games like Mario, Megaman, Warcraft and even NeoPets aren't littered with watermarks on everything they make. Though it might be funny to see at first, it will be an eye sore after awhile. Chicken Smoothie watermarks, while serving a way for people to hear about the site, are terribly high in contrast (pure black and white). Most artists normally go with the more transparent one or just add it to their signature along the lower lineart portion of the drawing. Its still visible but not "in the way".
If you have ever wondered why people like to dress up their pets, it is because it also serves as a way to hide it. Which defeats the purpose of having it there in the first place. It could be always on top like others have suggested. But then who would like to see THAT every time they greet their pets? I think the watermark should at least be less of an intrusion. You don't see Pikachu running around with a "www.nintendo.com" slapped on him when you go to use thunderbolt. That would just be silly.
Wassap!~

It's not a watermark - since watermarks are transparent. It's a tag (or signature if you want) so people can take their pet and post it off line and people still know where it came from.
And people don't just dress up their pets to 'hide' the tag. Most people dress them up for the fun of dressing them up and having fun mixing the items together. If you don't like the tag, then feel free to dress up your pet so you don't see it. And please don't use a popular cartoon character for the example since it's comparing tomatoes to oranges. Nintendo doesn't tag something so mainstream because you automatically know who owns it. CS isn't that big and isn't so mainstream to be known throughout the world so the tag stays.
