Rose
Rose nodded, grateful for Dylan's reassurance, and said, "See you after lunch." She made her way towards the Zeus table, pretending as though her half-brother (who was more demolishing than eating the sandwich in his hands) wasn't there. Instead, she leaned on her left arm with her elbow resting on the table and waited for the nymphs to bring her her lunch, which they did almost immediately. She thanked them and bit into her apple, ignoring the sandwich for the moment. She saw Jacob move in her peripheral vision and tensed slightly as he leaned in towards her. Obviously, he was just like her: stubborn.
"So, this is how it's gonna be for the rest of our lives, is it?" Jacob asked, his voice low. Rose ignored him. Jacob threw a grape at her. She turned towards him, eyes narrowed.
"What?" she said, annoyed.
"You're ignoring me," came her brother's equally annoyed reply.
"You're being a jerk, so I'm waiting for you to adjust your attitude."
"
I'm being a jerk?"
"Yes. A huge one," she added, sarcastic thoughtfulness in her voice.
"I'm not the one choosing a
friend over family."
"You're not my family." This, finally, sparked a reaction from him; Jake flinched slightly. Angrily, he said, "Maybe not. But I'm all you've got, seeing as your mother doesn't want you anymore." This time, Rose flinched. Violently. Temper rising, Rose growled, "I'm choosing Dylan over you because he isn't
forcing me to choose."
Yet again feeling drained, Rose stood up and dumped the rest of her lunch, taking the apple and striding out the entrance. She hated drama, and walking away seemed to be the only way to get away from it. At least for a while.
