I get why museums have stuffed wolves in there exhibits, because for science of course, people want to get a closer look which they usually can't, and also most of the animals they have in there were shot a long time ago and they wanted to put them in a good use. But why do people hunt wolves for sport? Most wolves are endangered! All they do is stick the poor wolf's body in there living room, or put there pelt on there floor saying, 'Look we have a wolf pelt, we're so rich and classy.'

Actually, it's illegal to hunt the endangered wolves--the grey wolves are not endangered, are huntable, and should stay that way for the specie's own benefit.

I believe some really sneaky jerks hunt endangered wolves and get away with it though...right? If I'm wrong then, well, feel free to call me an idiot DX
One year(a long time ago) I went to this really nice hotel called, 'Great Wolf Lodge'. At the place I went to they had a HUGE fireplace in the 'lobby', 'entrance', whatever you wanna call it, there were small ledges on the fireplace...stuffed wolves(about eleven, not all grey) were on them. 0.0 Also my brother wa dorky then so he got this stupid play wand at a shop in the hotel and you had to go on a quest. While walking down the hotel hallway we heard a really bad audio of a wolf howling, we looked to the left and one of the many stuffed wolves had it's eyes lit up red. Then the audio came back saying yu completed the quest. first they shot a wolf and then used as a toy for this magic quest thing!? >.<

Fighting chaos? I didn't see any CAPS LOCK or yelling.

I thought this was a discussion/club thread as well.

'Good' qualities? Why can't we take the good with the bad? Sure, we can pretend wolves are angels, but I'd rather not.

sorry it's a late post, went out to lunch and had this saved

I understand, I just don't like talking badly about wolves. I joined this club so I could talk about how awesome wolves are and how to help them, not hunt them. ;)

Super adorable!! Love them!! :D

I half agree with cool blue, we souldn't just talk about all the good qualities of wolves, but it is a wolf protection thread, and we should be more focused on protecting the wolves than just talking about them and arguing. We aren't saying wolves are angels, but we don't have to focus JUST on the bad qualities in wolves either. We're trying to protect them, not to point out the flaws and we don't want to say 'Hey it's ok to hunt the wolves, sure that's fine.' We're trying to say, 'Hey, let's get together and protect the endangered wolves from hunters and keep other types of wolves OFF the endangered list.' So let's not fight about it, and just focus on our goal. Okay?

Alright.

Well, as a new topic I'd like to ask how you guys feel about how grey wolves are so popular these days.

Thank you.

Grey wolves are great! I don't understand why they have to be so popular on both the hunting grounds (at least around here people don't mind killing them, but maybe because there are soo many farms around here) and in zoos\preserves and such. I like maned wolves better, but popular wolves are better than having no wolf awareness at all in my opinion!

Yeah, but it would be nice if a critically endangered species got some attention.
Do you know how few people know of Amur leopards? And that there are only about 30 to 35 adults left in the wild?

Quite sad...luckily I was aware and donated some money to the species. The zoo I live by has successfully adopted and bred an Amur leopard. When the numbers are that low, every single on counts. Mother Mona: http://www.stlzoo.org/images/amur_leopard01_sm.jpg
and cub Anastasia: http://www.stlzoo.org/images/amurLeopardanastasiamd.jpg

Back on wolves--I think people are just attracted to them. Maybe because of the whole canine doggy factor, or the fact that they're just gorgeous [although I prefer the look of a deer]
