Rockpaw was so excited when Darkstar announced that she would mentor him that he almost forgot to pad up and touch noses. He did remember though and walked up to do so.

Ashfang went to grin but barely caught himself in time. His son was the leader's apprentice! He had thought that he would mentor Eaglepaw and Spottedmask would mentor Rockpaw, but he was wrong.

Darkstar touches noses with Rockpaw. She smiled. strong clan, good apprentices strong warriors, this is great! she thought.

Darkstar called the meeting to the end and jumps down from the highrock. "Rockpaw we will train tomorrow at sunrise," she says cheerfully "Be ready"

Rockpaw nodded and walked over to his father. "So you're the leader's apprentice?" Said Ashfang. "Good. She will teach you well." He nodded to his son and stalked off. Rockpaw watched his father go, still tingling with excitement. He stood in the clearing for a while just thinking about what a great warrior he would be.

Brightfang watched the whole ceremony from outside of the nursery. All the while she was washing her fur with long smooth strokes. It wouldn't be long until she had her kits. She remembered with a pang of sadness that the unborn kits' father was dead. Swiftstep, a lithe black, gray, and brown patched tom, had died fighting a badger. He had chased if off, but he had died from his wounds.

Fallengaze looked around. His blue eyes glittered

Darkstar lied in her den. She sighed deeply. She woke up as the sun began to rise. She jumped up and quickly groomed her dark fur.
