"In January 1995, after years of preparation and many legal battles, 14 wolves were trapped in Canada and transported to Yellowstone National Park to begin their acclimation period prior to release.
The purpose of this "translocation," called Operation Wolf Stock, is to restore a vital element to the Yellowstone ecosystem that has been missing for over 60 years.

In late March 1995, three packs, now known as the Crystal Bench pack, the Rose Creek pack, and the Soda Butte pack were released into the wilds of Yellowstone.

In January 1996, another 17 wolves were brought in from British Columbia and put into four acclimation pens. The four groups are the Druid Peak pack, the Chief Joseph pack, the Lone Star pack, and the Nez Percé pack. These wolves were released in April 1996 after a 10-week acclimation period.

You are one of the first wolves that was reintroduced to the refuge of Yellowstone, where there are no humans that hunt you...But life will not be easy. The bitter cold of the winter is harsh, and what's more, a recent wildfire sweeping through the park has taken the lives of many in its rage, reducing the numbers of prey. Somehow, you must be able to survive the wilderness that is Yellowstone...

1) All of Tess' and Nick's rules apply.
2) This is a realistic roleplay. There are no fanciful colors, super powers, wings, "specialness", or wolves with blue eyes. You can have your own unique name, of course. And yes, hybrid pictures are permitted.
3) Just because this is realistic roleplay doesn't mean it's not PG-13!
4) Do not go more than 5 pages without me! Also, people in this roleplay will receive a notification through PM when we are about the start. If they do not reply within 3 days, we will start without them.
5) All roleplayers are welcome, as long as they are fine and willing to read the longer posts of literate roleplayers. My only request is that you post more than "Ash smiled and nodded."

6) Yes, you can talk. This roleplay wouldn't be much of anything if characters couldn't communicate.

The pack rankings are based on more recent studies of wolf pack behavior, but are organized into multiple ranks to keep it a bit more dramatic (see below). The alpha pair is the only one that has breeding rights but loners can have pups with any wolves in the pack (but the loners will rarely be accepted into the pack). Alphas also may mate with any wolf in the pack they wish to, but as most of the other wolves in the pack are the alphas' children, this is extremely rare.

You may challenge another wolf to gain ranks.

Omegas can be said to be more of "pushovers"- therefore, they are the ones that are picked on. However, they are vital to a pack in the sense that they help relieve tension. They are still accepted as pack members; they are simply "lower" than others and are the last to eat after a kill is made.

Although it is possible, it is uncommon for less than 5-8 wolves to be able to kill large prey such as elk, deer, and moose. Hunting is a job that requires the help of most, if not all, of the wolves in the pack.

Wolves may leave to become loners.

Druid Peak:
Druid Peak is a prominent peak on the north side of the Lamar Valley. Rising adjacent to Rose Creek, where two sets of wolves were released in successive years, one of the wolf packs was named after the peak, i.e., the Druid Peak Pack., released in 1996.

Between 1997 and 2004, the Druid Peak Pack always denned on Druid Peak. In 2005, for the first time, the old den site was wolfless -- the Druids moved upriver under pressure from the Slough Creek wolf pack.

Personality: Sirius, on the exterior, seems depressed and cynical, willing to take the blows of the wolves in his pack. But in truth, he is cunning and sly, stealing bites of prey when (he thinks) nobody is looking.
History: Sirius was born to a mother from the Nez Perce pack, but, as he was not born to the alphas of the Nez Perce, the care of him and his littermates was not shared with any other wolves. His mother would often go hunting (alone) and leave the pups hiding in the den, with no packmates to defend them. And then one day, she did not return...the pups were old enough to fend for themselves by that time and, although they traveled together for a time, they eventually went their separate ways. Sirius was found in the winter by the Rose Creek pack- a small, thin wolf, not fully-grown, and the alphas took him in.
