Jack yawned and stretched, rolling his shoulders idly and tiredly, then flopped straight back into his blanket. His face was about to land on his pillow, but much to Jack's surprise... and very sore face, there was no pillow there. He heard some giggling as he rubbed his now red face. It was his sister, Autumn. The scruffy, ginger-haird teen always took great pleasure in annoying him, and of course, she had been the one to steal his pillow. He ran a hand through his curly auburn hair, about to open his bleary eyes when somethign slammed into his stomach and little clutching hands grabbed his back. This was Rosemary, his toddler of a sister, she had fluffy red hair that stuck out like it had exploded, but even Jack had to admit, despite her iron grip, she was rather cute sister. So he rubbed his eyes, was about to give Rosemary a hug when out of nowhere, the pillow was rammed into his face. He opened his eyes and saw looking into them with an obvious pleasure, the brown eyes of his other sister Sycamore. At the grand old age of ten, she was beginning to discover just how much she loved to torment Jack. He sighed and got up from his 'bed', or as it really was, load of blankets on the floor, then looked at all his sisters. Autumn and Sycamore grinned, then scarpered otuside, knowing he would tickle them if not. It was the start of another ordinary day for jack, with a grin on his face, and baby sister of his hip, he got up yawned, and went into the small kitchen like area of his cramped family hut.

He managed to shove breakfast down the neck of all three of his sisters with minimal bawling from anyone. It wasn't so much of an achievement, more a mastered art. His mother had been ill for a good long time, and his step-father was away, it was business for the tribe alledgedly, but jack knew something else was going on. Anyway, because his parents were both caught up in their own affairs, Jack had been left to care for his sisters, and from that had become a caring figure, a fatherly one, and one who could easily thrash all his sisters in a play-fight.

So, he dumped Sycamore, Autumn and Rosemary, much to their reluctance, with another family, almost like humans would do with a child-minder. Almost instantly after he'd left he heard giggles and squeals, then the two older sisters came running out, being chased by the boys of the family. A smile crept onto Jack's lips, as he walked over to where he could see Rue, a friend of his from the village.

    / Aella /

"Aella, Kinayea, Tempest, Freya and El, please see me after assignment." Jay spoke, and Aella's gaze just barely connected with Freya's in a confused fashion. Had they done something wrong? Freya made an "I don't know gesture" and turned her attention back to Jay, although Aella could see the worry written across her face. It felt like ages until the assignment was over, but as soon as Jay dismissed everyone, Aella allowed herself to let go of the questions and confusion, and rushed over to Jay quickly. Freya was there beside her, already trying to reason. "Okay, really. Whatever we did wrong, I apologize for it in advance. And plus, if our punishment is to not be put on any patrols or hunting stuff, that's fine," she said, as Freya and Aella had noticed how Jay had not assigned them to one of the patrols. Jay smiled wearily and shook his head.

"No, no, no..." he spoke, and looked over Freya and Aella's shoulders at the three other figures that approached. Tempest was a strong man, in his twenties with light brown hair. El, another boy, but younger and scrawnier. Aella remembered during one of their season Festivals which were more like a few days of fun, she and him had been engaged in a race, and were racing neck and neck. Aella was judged the winner by just a mere fraction of an inch. Finally, there was Kinayea, a pretty doe-eyed girl who had just recently told everyone about she and Shakil, another man of the tribe, being engaged and expecting young ones. They all ringed in a circle around Jay, and Aella noticed the worry in each of their eyes. Jay laughed. "All of you look like frogs at a funeral! I'm not here to punish you! There's nothing for you to be punished for! I just have a separate task for you five." he spoke, and relief washed over the five Tribe members.

"I need you all to go on a small patrol into Fox Tribe's territory." he said, and all of them made a somewhat face at this prospect. In order to get to the Fox Tribe's territory, you had to cross through Raven Tribe's land as well. "But... why?" Freya spoke the question everyone was wondering. Jay looked at the five curious faces. "It's just a small errand, and I know that with five people, it is somewhat threatening, but we need to make sure that if any hostilities are shown, (I don't see why there would be...) then that you are prepared. Raven Tribe has always been somewhat unpredictable. But I need you to ask if they can spare some herbs. They have a large stock of herbs that cannot grow up in these mountains, and so do we for them. Bring some of ours down there and see if we can trade." he spoke, and Kinayea spoke up. "But really... do we need five people? I heard you explain, but I think that we're well-trained enough for us to be able to fight with at least only three." she said, and Jay seemed to think for a moment, and then nodded. "Fine. El, Kinayea, you're dismissed." he said, and they nodded dutifully and walked away. Tempest cast a bored eye over Freya and Aella and seemed to approve that they would be good at fighting if the crisis rose. Behind his back, Freya stuck her tongue out at him. "Of you go." Jay spoke as he handed them a small pack of food if needed at all, which probably wouldn't happen.

    / Rue /

"Well... I think... I hope... that I'll get an awesome mask." Stammered Odell, and Rue laughed lightly. "You don't just "get" a mask, let alone an awesome one. You earn it." Odell stared at her like she was speaking in a foreign language. "I... earn it? But... what if I do nothing? What then?" Rue made a face. "Well then, obviously, you don't earn it, and therefore, have no awesome mask." Odell pouted and stared at the ground as he tried to comprehend what his sister was trying to tell her. "You're confusing." he finally commented, and Rue resisted the urge to shove her brother. "You're more confusing with your strange way of thinking about things." she countered, and Odell stuck his tongue out at her. "Alright, you asked for it. I can't help it." Rue spoke, and shoved Odell over. He flopped onto his side and sat up indignantly, a bit of moss stuck in his tangle of red hair. "Hey! No fair!" he yelled, and tried to push Rue, but of course, a seven year old and a seventeen year old's weight varies hugely, so, there was no impact from his efforts.

(I don't know if you wanted Rue to notice Jack or not...
If you did, I can edit. :3

(( I think I'm going to write in first person... I dunno. I felt like my third person writings were way too poor. ))

Burning! Ah, my eyes! They burn! Oh, wait, it's just the sun.

The sun was really penetrating my closed eyes as I tried to sleep, but I wasn't sleeping. I was just lying there since yesterday without moving a muscle, since I was way too deep in thoughts. I snorted as I tried to move, but couldn't. As if my body was paralized there. My muscles were way too numb to move. "Crap", I mumbled worried as I tried to look around. It looked a bit more late then morning... That means that I've been standing there since... Lunch? At any rate, before I tried to move again, I heard someone coming out of the house. It was no doubt aunt Mae, as she was with her usual heavy steps while walking out to grab water. However, it wasn't as I expected. She gave a heavy sigh. "What's the matter, Mae?" another voice approached, sounded like Ms. Ava, the housewife from next door. "I'm just tired, Ava." Mae responded, and I noticed that she really had a heavy voice, sighing everytime she would breath.

"...It's him again, right?" Ava simply asked. I did not know who was "him", but I was beting my own lunch that they were talking about me. Figures. "Yes... He disappeared again and still did not return home." my aunt replied and I had a feeling that she missed me, but it was probably my imagination. "I just can't believe how you can raise that child, Mae... I doubt he'll ever find a mate and create a family of his own..." that last phrase made my stomach boil. I already heard a lot refering to me, like 'bastard moron', 'ungrateful brat', but about a 'mate'... That was new. Mae's words seemed to start fading away. I think she was walking along with Ava, "You think I don't know? I just can't believe he continue to do this after all this......" then I couldn't hear their voices any longer.

"Tch" I snorted, not caring one bit about what the others say. I think I was just born as a devil-ish guy. I don't remember what passed through my head whenever I would spank a kid as a child. I'm guessing because they were way too idiot, with that crap-talk about "tradition" and stuff. Things that I never cared.

I tried all my strenght to stand up, kind of using my wings as a support. That wasn't a very good idea. As I tried to stand up, I didn't feel my leg and I fell right on it, stepping on the corner of the roof and falling from a 20ft tall house. With luck, there was a haystack right bellow, but that doesn't mean that falling head straight-on wouldn't leave some bruises. That reaaally hurt. "Goodness gracious!" I heard another voice. Great. Just what I needed. I couldn't hear very well because there were hay even inside my ears, but that phrase was commonly used by a single person I know.

And yes, it was exactly that person I was expecting to encounter as I lifted my head from the hay. Old man Otto was standing there, with his wooden cane and his long already-white beard and small wings a bit darker that seemed to have been chewed by a large animal. "What the hell were you trying to do, young man?" Oh, no, I'm fine, of course. Thanks for asking., that what I would've said, if there weren't kilos of hay inside my mouth. I spat out all the dirty yellow thing and stood up, cleaning my coat. "Don't tell me..." Mr. Otto mumbled, his words trembling as he spoke "...You were trying to... To fly?", just that single sentence made everyone around us that were busily walking make a loud gasp and look at us. I grumbled a little to myself, hating having to be always the center of attention. I would say straight on to the old man not to get his nose into anyone's business, especially my business.

Before I would even open my mouth, an annoying voice echoed in my head. The words were always there, to haunt me and creep me. It was aunt Mae's voice. I remember she told me a few months ago how I shouldn't disrespect the elders of the Tribe or else she wouldn't cook meals for me. Just the thought made my stomach shiver, as I was not only known by my behavior, but by my cooking skills too. Mae started using that as a weapon against me.

With a long sigh coming from me, I simply gave a forced smile with exagerated calm "Of course not, gram--, I mean, Elder. I was simply..." I looked at the forest "...Trying to see the horizon of the forest... Y'know." Mr. Otto seemed to pause a little, maybe thinking whether he would believe in my lousy lie or not. Then he just shrugged it off, "Alright, alright... I'll let this one slip. I can kind of understand your curiousity, but don't try anything dangerous. Besides, you know how people here like to spread rumors." he started to whisper "If one sees you again in a high place and suddenly jumped, they would think of another thing and it might just travel to... The Marquess' ears." I closed my fists tight as I heard the last word. I simply hated this so-called Marquess. Sure, I've read her stories and all, but I always thought it was ridiculous how none of the Tribes ever fought back against this witch.

Again, I would spit other curse when Mae's weapon pointed at my head - or better saying my stomach - again. "No, Elder... We surely wouldn't want that."

With that being said, I walked out of the way of the Elder, through the Tribe. As always, I was greeted by the thousands of looks from painted masks and whispers behind me, which was like this everyday - if I would return the next day. I never cared. They were all weak, thinking that following a stupid tradition will save them from a witch like The Marquess. I wanted to fight back, but whenever I would try to start this type of converstation with my aunt, she would quickly shush me and close the windows, and just repeat to me what everyone say: "Don't ever say that again."

Instead of walking out of the village or telling my aunt Mae that I was always at there and did not fled, I stayed put and decided to just wander around the Tribe. No one seemed to stop me, like the soldiers or patrols. They were obviously hoping that I would leave that place once and for all.

(( bah, sorry for posting this late... Also, I would have posted more, but then it crossed my mind that it would be way too much, so I gave up eventually. ))

I'm kind of glad, because I didn't have to distract myself from my cleaning to reply. xD)

    / Aella /

The three peoples of the Hawk Tribe had set off only around twenty minutes ago, and already, Freya was starting to get fidgety. Tempest did not pay any attention to the two girls and strode ahead a good measure of distance, as if he didn't want to be in close proximity to the two younger and feminine members of his Tribe. Aella was taking in the view, wondering what the terrain they were walking on looked like from above. Of course, she would never know. Freya seemed to be having the same thoughts, and was staring at the sky, but was a little less focused than Aella was. Often she would pick up a rotted tree limb and fling it a little way, then find another and whack it against the taller trees that were starting to sprout up because of their descent down the mountain. Aella was excited though. She had never, ever been in other Tribes' territories, and let alone be this far down the mountain. Freya didn't seem to care.

"When do you think we'll get to Raven Tribe's territory?" Freya whispered to Aella, who found no good reason to be whispering, but whispered back just for the sake of agreement. "How should I know? I've never been." she replied, and fluttered the wings on her back agitatedly with as much room as she had. Freya pulled a long face and turned to Tempest, who seemed that he had actually been out in this place before. "Tempy, how much farther until Raven Tribe territory?" she asked in a sing-songy voice, and the boy made no move to turn around. "Number one, about a mile and a half or two more. Number two, if you call me Tempy again, I will give you a pummeling that you will ache from for seasons to come. Either that, or you shall find yourself pushed off a cliff." Freya made a dark face in mock worry and whispered to Aella. "Whooo... Dark and scary." she mumbled, and Aella could swear that Tempest had heard them. "Okay Tempy!" Freya called cheerfully, and though they could not see it, Aella believed that his face was flushed with rage.

In a few more miles, as Tempest had said, the trees started to thin out. The wind was kept present, but the sound of the branches clacking together was somewhat unnerving. Aella kept on feeling that a huge spider with clacking legs was following them. Either that, or a hidden army of drummers that were stalking the three of them. Aella shared her thoughts with Freya who cracked up at the thought. Both girls were beginning to feel warmer though, and felt more sluggish. The air was very thick, and they both found it hard to breathe. "Tempest, is it normal to feel like you're going to die?" Aella asked with a cheerful smile, and Tempest glanced back a bit. "Yes. The air down here is thicker than on the mountain top. You are suited to thin air. To those down here, this air pressure is normal." Aella bit her lip. "Weird. How long until you think the Raven Tribe will notice us?" she questioned again, and Tempest looked grimly forward. "Hopefully, as soon as we're out of their territory. They don't take kindly to tress passers."

Aella frowned and noticed how the trees were beginning to get barren. Freya stared up at their long forms, shivering. "Sooo... I take it we're in Raven Tribe's territory now?" she asked, and Tempest just gave a grave nod. Aella didn't ask how long it would be until they reached Fox Tribe's territory. Freya touched one of the skinny and leafless trees and leaned over to whisper to her friend, "I'm not a big fan of our short little shrubby mountain trees, but I'd prefer those over these looming dark giants." Aella nodded and stared ahead, trying to block out the bleakness and strange noises of the territory until they got home.

Re: The Silence of Rebellion - Semi-lit (Accepting!)

Postby Rocketai » Thu Aug 04, 2011 11:12 am

As I was walking by through the dead trees, the air seemed to have chilled down quite a bit, as it froze my face on the first blow. Most people would wear their masks, especially on a situation like this, but I don't. I always had my raven mask inside one of the pockets of my black coat, in case aunt Mae would scream at me, thinking that I would've lost the darn thing. At any rate, when I was looking at the sky that it was now slightly foggy, I felt someone following me - or better yet, watching me. "Blair..." I whispered the name, but in the middle of those cracking trees, it seemed to have been louder. I approached a bush nearby that has been bothering me and took out of it with my own hands a boy smaller then me, but also from the Raven Tribe.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! P-Please, don't kill me!" the boy begged, his grey-ish crow mask fell on the floor after I grabbed him his collar and raised him from the floor. Maybe's that's all he could get next to flying. "What the hell are you doing sneaking up on me, Blair?" I asked, furious for being watched by everyone and having gossips at every corner. "L-Listen... R-Ruor, I don't want t-to cause any trouble! He-he... I just... I just wanted to... to..." Blair stopped for a while and he seemed to have remembered something, while trying to remove my grip. "Oh, yeah! I remember! I saw some stranger coming in this direction while I was on the trees!" he said, sweat coming out of his forehead. Blair has always been a sneaky moron. Since we were both kids, he has been following a lot of people lately, especially the girls when they go take a bath at the river. He was very good at sneaking though, being discovered only three times in his life - four now - one by the Elder and three by me.

"Strangers?" I mocked him "Now, what odds are that?" "W-Well!" Blair mumbled, still trying to remove my grasp "I'll show it to you! I-If you release me...", I still did not released him "You still didn't tell me what you were doing right now." finally the boy gave up and, with a retreat expression, he sighed "I just wanted to see where you were going. Y'know, I thought you were going to meet those strangers becau..." great, I thought, he probably heard yet ANOTHER rumor about me. Now what was it? Me joining the other Tribes?

I did not ask him however, for futher information, as it didn't interest me. I was more curious about these people from the other Tribe. What did they want? "Alright. You convinced me." I said, putting Blair on the ground - and lemme add it, not a very gentle way, more like throwing a rock. "Show me." and - without another word - Blair beckoned at me to climb on the trees and, consequently, into the foggy surface just above the ground.

Aella fingered her mask that rested on her face with somewhat worry. "Freya, what if they find us and don't want us here?" she asked, stepping so lightly on the ground that her movement was silent. Though the view underneath Freya's mask was limited, Aella saw a huge grin form. "Then they try to attack us and we go all "fwooshaawww" on them and then we beat them and run!" she said, and Aella stared at her with a stare that said, 'you are really that stupid?' Though it was lost on her friend, it felt good to make it. Shaking her head, Aella turned to stare at where they were heading. The trees hadn't lessened at all into the deciduous green of the Fox Tribe's territory, and both girls were starting to get fidgety. "First off, we would try to reason with them. Secondly, if they attacked us, we would probably put up a fair fight, but not go "fwooshaawww" as you so aptly put it. Thirdly, we wouldn't beat them up, but simply resign from the fight. Fourthly, we would not run, as that is the cowards way out, and finally, fifthly, this would cause a huge problem between the Raven and Hawk Tribes." Aella let her friend consider that, and there was silence.

Jack had quietly sat down in front of a tree. He smiled as he watched Rue and Odell, their actions reminding him of himself and his sisters and how fun it was to torment and play-fight. After a while though, he rifled around in the spacious pockets of his large coat, trying to find something. He pulled out a knife, some sticks (put there by his sisters for amusement), some acorns (because according to Autumn 'They'll come in useful'), a hand-made leather pouch containing some herbs (this was most certainly Jack's, as he wasn't meant to have them), and some other random pieces of string and assorted items of no importance. He sighed, put everything back in his pockets, and moved onto another one. If he didn't find what he was looking for soon, he would get bored. His coat had twenty pockets.

After a sort while (a.k.a. Five pockets later...) Jack had found it, a small carving knife and block of wood. It was a past-time of his, much as he was ashamed to admit it, he would carve wood during the day, well of course, until his sisters found him and stole his mask and the likes. So he settled down, occassionally glancing over at Rue and Odell, and started to chip away at the block of wood with his shiny knife.
