If you have the map, how do you know when to turn it in? If you guess wrong, do you have to start the quest over again?

You must wait 30 minutes. If you turn it in at the wrong time, it'll just say come back in {X} amount of minutes ^^

Also...

Although you won't lose the map for turning it in at the wrong time, you will lose it once you successfully hand it in.
This is because the map is swapped out for the lion set, thus the map will be removed from your inventory.

So the only way to keep the map as an item is to not turn it in for the lion set.

I would have to say yes, but the black pup is also really high up there too.

You get logs from the forest, just keep checking every 30 minutes and eventually you will get it im sure.

Question...how hard is it to come across the gold and silver jeweled goblets?

I didn't realize til late last night they were handing out food items, so I've been working to catch up, and I'm missing both of them. >.<

Anyhow...are they hard to find? Or just sheer dumb luck?
