Ash grumbled, "Five more minutes..." and Lukas almost had to laugh. It reminded him of the past, when he had to go to school and walk his sisters to the bus stop in the morning. Though the memories were happy, they also made him sad. Stop it, he thought to himself, thinking about the past isn't going to bring it back. At least you have your sisters! After a minute, his sneaky subconscious added, And Ash. Don't you forget about her. Lukas knew that he was fighting a losing battle with his attraction to her, but for the time being he was trying to keep his attitude professional, not wanting to know what chaos would ensue if he was distracted from taking care of everyone.
He looked at Ash thoughtfully, debating what to do. She really seemed comfortable, despite being crammed in the corner of the closet, and for all he knew she hadn't gotten any sleep the night before. However, he really didn't want to leave her in the dark closet. Lukas quickly ran back to his room, grabbing the notebook and pencil from the floor. He leaned up against the wall by Ash's closet, leaving the door open, and continued to plan.
A little while later, Alex appeared in the hallway. "Hey," he said, looking skeptical but ignoring Lukas' odd location, "What's up?"
"Just planning. I think we should go get some mattresses tonight, because everyone's been complaining. See?" he answered, holding up the pad of paper for Alex to see.
"I can't argue with that," Alex told him jokingly. "Anything I need to do?"
"Just tell the boys," Lukas told him, but thinking of Ash sleeping in the closet on his other side, he felt guilty. "And, uh, why don't you ask if there's any girls hanging around that want to help? We're going to need it."
Alex looked stunned at Lukas' suggestion, but he didn't argue. Lukas had wanted to ask Ash, but she showed no signs of waking up, and he didn't want to disturb her. Rubbing his temples Lukas stared down at his plan, making a few more notations. It wouldn't be final until he knew how many girls were helping, but he had to admit that they would make the whole thing a lot easier.
