Then she said a few months later she'd gone off him slightly, because he wouldn't date her. Well, I would say that maybe you two should just go out on a date or two and see how it works out. It's great that you both like each other. You don't have to be bf & gf, nobody said you had to be. You can both be friends, and if you're ready, you two can become bf & gf. Usually it's both beneficial and safer to be friends with your date before you date them, because you have more of a chance of getting to know their personality and if they might be suitable for you.

Perhaps he thought that you did not suit him as a lover, but as a friend. It's okay to be mad, bt asking for him back might be pushing it and asking for too much.
