When Layla woke up the nex day she got dressed in her favorite outfit; a yellow shirt with sparkly flowers on it and an orange scooter skirt. Layla combed down her brown curly hair and ate breakfast. Then she brushed her teeth. After that, the bus came to her house and she went on. The bus ride wasn't too bad. People didn't notice her, which was better then people teasing her. When the bus stopped, Layla got off the bus and looked at her new school. And guess who was on the swinset? The girl Layla had knocked down the day before. Layla didn't look the girl's way. When she got inside, she looked at the piece of paper in her hand, and saw her locked number and combination. She opened her locker and put her things inside. When the bell rang, she ran to class. Nearly all the seats where taken, except for two. So Layla sat in one of them. When the last kid came in, she scowled at Layla.
"Yo, loser, get out of my seat," the kid said to Layla.
"It doesn't have your name on it, does it?" Layla said.
Nobody had ever talked back to that kid before, so the kid had nothing to say. She sat down in the other seat. THen the teacher came in and smiled at the class.
"We have a new student today, class," the teacher said. "Her name is Layla Jenineo. PLease stand up, Layla."
Layla stood up. Nobody said anything.
"You may sit down now, Layla," the teacher said.
Layla sat down. Have I forgotten to tell you something? Oh yes, I believe I have. Layla has a curse. How could I have forgotten to tell you that? Well, this curse makes Layla be brave. You may think that's good, but it's not. She has to speak up and be brave in any sercomstance.... no matter what. She was born with the curse. That is why she spoke back to the mean kid that Layla just talked to.
"Now, I'm sure all of you know what 5 divided by 20 is, correct?" the teacher said.
"4," the class said.
"Good," the teacher said. "Now, we will be working on times tables this week."
So they learned about times tables, and after that it was time to go to recess. Layla walked to recess, and the mean kid Layla had sat in her seat came up to her.
"What do you want?" Layla asked her.
"I want to know why you where in my seat," the girl said.
"Because I'm new," Layla said.
"I know that, but why didn't you get up?!" the girl said, getting annoyed.
"Because I didn't want to," Layla said. "Now, if you could leave I could enjoy playing on the slides."
The girl was astonished by Layla's bravery, and so she left her alone.
"For once, the curse is actually working for good," Layla said.
BUt soon it wouldn't work for good. Soon it would backfire.
