With the protective boundaries gone, it's perfectly plausable that he could apparate out of danger. Which I prefer to believe. He was, by far, the smartest of the Snatchers, so likely the only one to think of that. To me, he escaped and joined the good side o he wouldn't have to go back to Azkaban.

It's just the first contest I entered in. I still have around 20 I think that haven't even announced winners yet, but I am still so psyched that I won even a small prize.
