Rise of the Cynth [1x1]

Luna scoffed again, and snarled at him. "It doesn't matter either way!" She snapped at him, Luna couldn't handle it anymore. Her hatred rumbled and boiled until it came exploding out. Her leg shot out, kicking Skye. Luna bent over and snatched her katana back. "Why don't you worry about yourself, genius." She growled at him, Luna took a glance at Rioku, narrowing her eyes at him. Luna grinned at him, "Well, aren't you going to stop me?" She asked, chuckling a little. "Do it." Luna said, not waiting for his answer. She sheathed her katana, ignoring the small sting. Luna bent her knees, ready for a attack from Rioku. But of course she didn't suspect Skye would do anything, he was weak right now. She was underestimating him greatly, based on his condition.


Ren ignored Mayia, and kept pacing. He glanced at Hunter, then back out of the cave. He quickened, moving his legs a little faster. He started to head for the entrance of the cave, close to jogging. "I'm going to wait out here." He mumbled to Mayia and Hunter, but it sounded like he was saying it to himself. Ren couldn't help but feel pent up in the cave, and as he burst out he breathed in a deep breath of fresh air. Ren glanced behind him at Mayia, "Don't worry I'll stay awake out here." He grinned and chuckled like always. "So go to sleep so Hunter doesn't have to worry." Ren said, a teasing note in his voice. He turned back to the outside. Ren stared out, already getting lost in his thoughts.

Skye didn't really flinch from getting kicked, since he was use to people defying him as well as trying to kill him. What was bothering him was more the look in Luna's eyes. They still held some kind of innocence deep within them, however hard it was to detect. Skye simply looked at Luna until she finished speaking. He may not have had any energy to fight at the moment, but he could still move. He raised his arms and just pulled Luna close to him, his breath non-existant as he whispered to her. Rioku was rather surprised that Skye had done that, mostly because Skye only used that method on small children. Then again, he never dealt with people who were older than ten since they would always be angry with him or would be unconscious when he helped them.

Mayia frowned in worry as Ren just kept going, then looked at Hunter, not noticing that his eyes were open in the slightest. She looked up again, watching Ren pace back and forth. She had no idea that Ren wasn't able to handle being inside for too long. Mayia was like that, but she was able to handle it when she was tired. When Ren spoke again, she started to suspect his smile... He always just seemed so happy that she just couldn't believe that it was true. "A-Alright..." She said inwardly while Hunter finally got up again, surprising Mayia that he was awake. He simply curled around her though, using his tail to get her to lay down. Mayia sighed in defeat and finally shut her eyes, nuzzling against his furry neck.

Luna squeezed her eyes shut and screamed at the top of her lungs, thrashing and twisting. She tried to push and kick Skye, still screaming. After a while she finally ran out of breath, she took another deep one before she started to yell at him. Luna leaned away from him, trying wiggle free. "DON'T TOUCH ME!" She kept yelling over and over, like a mantra.She shook her head once, like trying to clear her head. Which felt over crowding and very cluttered with memories at the moment. After a failing with everything else she went limp, like a rag doll, to try and make him loosen his grip. Luna opened her eyes again as she took a quick glance at Rioku, she stopped yelling. The silence was eerie as she glared at him, her gaze piercing. Luna narrowed her eyes and tried to control his emotions, trying to make him pity her. Anything to get her away from Skye.

Ren glanced back at Mayia and smiled, happy that she finally just listened to him. Ren settled himself on the large rock that was holding down the cover for the sewers. Ren messed with his hair, happy to see it was finally dry. He hoped Hunter didn't use the sewer water. Ren shivered at that thought and continued to pull and tug with his hair. He tried to make into a cool look, something nice. But finding nothing good he just left it as it is. The green hair rested lightly over his eyes, just enough so he could see clearly. Ren sighed and looked back behind him again. "This is going to be a long day." Ren murmured to himself, and sighed again.

Skye didn't move, his body in much pain as Luna fought against him. He didn't move though. He just waited there for Luna to stop moving before releasing her. His chest and legs were seakened, and he fell to his knees before Luna. She might not have felt better, but at least he had been able to get her so just stop with her cynical attitude for a moment. He was use to the screams and he had taken his seconds of rest in stride. Truthfully, his action was rather selfish. He anticipated that Luna despised that kind of contact by the way that she killed without mercy, while Rioku was snickering. It was obvious that Rioku had kind of enjoyed this physical madness. So long as no one died from it. Rioku trotted up to them, sitting beside Skye and looking up at Luna. "Skye says that he's sorry. He just wanted you to be something other than evil for a second." He said, his tail wagging to show Luna his amusement.

Mayia was soon asleep, shutting her eyes and snuggling up against Hunter. As for Hunter, he was wide awake, well rested and happy that Mayia was finally sleeping. It had been about a week since she last was able to sleep properly, so it was refreshing to see her smiling like that. Mayia wasn't dreaming at all, not that she ever dreamt before. Blank dreams were always much more relaxing to Mayia. Any dreams she had ever had were horrible and frightening, so the nothingness was helpful. "Why did it happen... like this?..." She mumbled quietly, thoughts coming, but no images. She seemed troubled, but not to a point to scream or cry. Just mumbling quietly.

Luna gritted her teeth and clenched her fists tightly, this time barely feeling the sting. She narrowed her eyes down on Rioku, it was like she was going to explode. But instead she said in a very low, and rather eerie voice, "Next time you try that again, I'll slit both of your throats." Luna could swear that she was going to murder that dog, but instead she held back.. Which she surprised herself, maybe because an instinct told her to. Maybe because she had a small soft spot. But whatever the reason she held back, it upsets her even more. Luna wanted to storm off, and throw a hissy fit. But she knew Rioku would get a laugh out of that. So, she would hold on to her dignity and keep her back straight


Ren grinned to himself as he pulled out the dagger from underneath his jeans. He twirled it with his fingers, never missing a beat. In fact it looked like he knew what he was doing and he had been doing that for a long time. Ren watched it, spin around and around, and has he stood up, whistling softly. He threw it against the ground, it made a quiet noise, as it stuck into the ground, the handle pointing straight in the air. Ren chuckled and picked it back up, strapping it back on his right ankle. He pulled down his jeans and sat back down on the large rock. Ren laughed quietly as he watched the sky closely. "Maybe i should get going?" He said quietly to himself, just above a whisper.

Rioku snicked lightly and nudged Skye quietly. Skye didn't move and spoke to Rioku in his silence. That had immediately caused Rioku to stop laughing at Luna, just the cold look from the corner of his eye making Rioku cringe with his ears flat again his head. "I apologize on his behalf..." Skye said, purposely straining his throat so he could speak. He wasn't going to just let Rioku make fun of Luna. There was no time to be making enemies. This was a state that Rioku had never thought that anyone other than him, the dead and Skye's master would ever dare see. He slowly pushing himself to stand, but ended up falling back with a muffled thud, his head still spinning. He couldn't just sit there though... He would have tried again, but he knew what the outcome would be. He'd just end up on the floor again.

Hunter looked out of the entrance, listening as Ren twirled his knife and spoke to himself. He couldn't help but feel curious as to why he was still here in the first place. Soon enough, his curiosity took over his mind and he nudged Mayia slightly, waking her gently. She was in a daze, which wasn't the best state to be in when in Vuglary with the Cynth running around, killing people and driving a few mad. "... W-What's... goin' on..." Mayia wasn't herself in this daze, and that was evident as she shivered. The fire had gone out, and the are of the late winter was blowing in. Hunter was about to tell her to get on his back, but a small group of people came out from a small tunnel at the back of the cave. Large men and armed women slinked out... Humans tainted by madness... How perfect. Hunter didn't notice them until Mayia screamed. It was out of character for Mayia to scream unless she had just been having a nightmare or something was seriously wrong... Regular people never triggered such a thing either... Hunter turned towards the people and growled, his fur bristling while Mayia practically hugged his tail, crying. This wasn't going to be pretty.

Luna sneered down on Skye, ignoring Rioku. Her face was twisted into a rather nasty expression. "Well? I expect a little more." She said, scoffing and slightly disgusted. Luna lifted her head up to the sky, finally noticing that it was day. She couldn't help but sigh, this was the time she usually found a place to sleep. Luna glanced at Rioku, and threw a smirk at him. Just because. Luna returned her attention back to Skye and and grinned at him widely. It seemed she had forgot what Skye had done a minute ago, well she knew by now that he couldn't do anything at this point. Luna held out her hand. "You know, it's pretty pathetic to receive help from me." She laughed, not a very pretty sound. It sounded like scratching against ice.

Ren jumped and whirled around when he heard the eye-splitting scream. He instantly spotted the humans, and could see the insanity in their eyes. The way they walked and everything they did seemed to scream it. Ren spat out a curse, as he ran over to Hunter and Mayia. Ren shoved his way in front of them. He didn't bother to see if they would understand his words. It was pretty clear they would eat them or something worse. Ren slid out his dagger as he leaned down. He held it up, gripping his hand tightly. "We should leave." He murmured to Hunter without turning back. He needed to buy some time, it wouldn't be good if they caught them. Besides it not like they were super-fighters. He doubted they would live if they attacked head-on. They needed to think this out.

Skye just kept still, letting his body try and recover. He hated when he couldn't do anything for himself, and accepting help would make him feel like he just had so much more to fix. He just glanced up at Luna quietly, looking past her hand and up at her face with an expression that usually only a child could have... That's right. His childhood was taken from him a long time ago. All he had left was his charity and what was left of his self worth. Rioku was obviously confused by the look that Skye was giving Luna and decided to try something, silently padding behind him and slipping his hat from his head. Skye immediately turned to see what had happened, showing that he hadn't completely lost his mind just yet. "What's wrong? You never let anyone see you like this." RIoku growled, just dropping Skye's hat to the ground. Rather than talking back, Skye just picked up his hat and shadowed his eyes before putting it back on. He didn't answer, and just sat there while Rioku turned his gaze up to Luna, a cold look glazed over them.

Hunter simply thought for a moment, just as Ren came in from outside. Ren had just put himself in a bad position. Hunter couldn't blame Ren, though. Anyone with a good amount of guts would come running at he could of a scream like that. Slipping his tail from Mayia's arms, he growled lowly to her before jumping over Ren and pressing his head against the boy's somach just hard enough to push him back as he kicked his hind legs out at the people behind him. Ramming his way through the people, he made sure that the tunnel was accessable, since it was obvious that he wouldn't be able to get these blood driven people away from it. "Run!" He barked before just stopping for a second at Ren's side as Mayia obeyed in her little daze there. "Take care of her..." Hunter didn't plan on coming back, the people he had knocked down starting to get up, one even turning to go after Mayia.

Luna finally pulled her hand back, tired of waiting. She rolled her eyes over to Rioku, and sneered at him. "What are you looking at?" She growled before turning back to Skye. Luna crossed her arms. "Are you going to sit there forever?" Luna asked, snarling a little. "Cause I'm getting a little bored just standing here." She said, right now she was filling the silence with her voice. Luna could almost feel the tension, but she didn't pay much attention to it. In fact she didn't really care what was going on if it didn't involve her in some way. Luna towered over Skye, well not really, she wasn't that tall to do that. But it was enough. Luna smirked, "why do you wear that hat? It doesn't look very good on you." She stated, oh so helpfully. She would continued to ramble on and on about things she did and didn't like until she got something out of the both of them.


Ren smiled sadly, because it was clear what Hunter planned to do. He turned back to Mayia and scooped her up in her arms. He needed to get out of here before she was fully awake. Ren would have helped Hunter, but Mayia right now was a burden. Ren took off, full speed. He knew he didn't have enough time to move that large rock so he ran down the hill. He couldn't even take one last glance behind him as he tried to keep his footing. Ren held Mayia like a sack of potatoes on his shoulder, just so it would be easier tor run. But he couldn't say it would be a nice ride for Mayia. Ren jumped over a branch and winced when he landed. Ren tried to smile, but for once he couldn't muster one up.

Skye held one arm around his gut to limit how deeply he breathed. "Possibly..." He said as softly as he could to keep himself from putting any more strain on his body. He would rather not have to deal with the extended periods of immobilization. He didn't have the time for that, with what he did every day in this blood drenched town. Skye silently moved one hand to his hat, looking at the ground lowly as he listened on to Luna and her ramblings. With a low sigh, he pulled the hat slightly so that the brim hid his face, the sadness in his expression something that he often hid so that even Rioku never saw it before. "This was my foster father's hat. It may be strange, but it is very... dear to me..." He started to cough again, but it wasn't that bad. He should be healed by noon at this rate, so long as nothing happened to him.

Hunter lowered his head as Ren and Mayia disappeared down the tunnel, pouncing on the boy who was going after them before turning his back on the tunnel and charging at the humans. He got beaten and ripped some skin, drawing blood from both himself and the humans. It was a loud battle, with yelling and gunshots, but soon enough, the humans retreated, having run out into the real world. Hunter couldn't take much more physical strain or blood loss and collapsed, his vision going grey and blurring out. He was tired, breathing shallowly and feeling at peace when the noise finally stopped. I'm sorry for breaking my promise... Don't die here like this... Mayia... Promise me... you won't... Hunter didn't finish his thought before his eyes shut forever on the floor of the cave.

Mayia gasped when she was lifted, her body quivering and the sound of yelling filling her ears. The shock had woken her up, her eyes searching for a source of what was happening. Anything that would clue her in on what was going to happen. She could feel the bouncing of footsteps and the sound of a breath run ragged with running. She glanced up at whoever was carrying her, finding slight comfort that it was Ren since Hunter had approved of him earlier. "W-Where's Hunter?... Where is he?..." She said, taking hold of the front of Ren's shirt, her eyes shut. She didn't want to know what was going to happen to her, just wanting to be with Hunter like she had for as long as she could remember.
