Grey wolves do need saving. I couldn't find much in Wikipedia except a map. The part in red is where grey wolves used to be. The part in green is where they are now. My brother always says he would kill a wolf on sight, regardless of what it was doing, because it would try and eat him if it saw him.

Anyway, to justify our little argument... all of the following are statements from SummerFlow:

And wolves are practically the most overrated creature on the internet.

Liru wrote:Well, I agree with MadiWolf too. Wolves almost always have a reason for the few attacks on humans. They could be sick or starving.

Perfectly healthy wolves have attacked humans before.

And, you possessed wolf lovers probably had no idea that wolves also kill for sport themselves! For the lulz!
It's called surplus killing. I think. It means that sometimes they hunt down elk/caribou/deer/whatever and then they just leave the body there, not touching it. Oh, and before you get all "BUT ITZ AN OLDD DEER THAT WUZ GANNA DIE ANYWAYS", sometimes the kill is perfectly healthy, not a single problem with it. They also do it to teach their pups sometimes, but that's a different story. It's still Surplus killing, though. Oh yeah, this half-paragraph is in case you think only humans kill for sport.
Nu-uh.

The one about wolves killing for sport is PURE MYTH. I have sources to prove it.

Anywhere that you do see someone saying wolves kill for sport is either A) Another person giving wolves a bad name and believing stereotypes B) Somebody ineducated or C) Someone claiming something. Nothing more, nothing less.

To SummerFlow... why are you going to stop posting? I was proving a point and you kept contradicting me and I got fed up with it. And I WILL NOT report you, because I only report for good reason and not over a little argument, but somebody could report you for saying my name. You probably won't trust me, but I won't report you.

I fail to see how any of Summerflow has twisted yours or Liru's words in any of the statements.

Gray wolves are listed as Least Concern, the absolute best a species can be. Their numbers are at a good and stable 5,000 in the continental U.S. and 11,000 in Alaska. They're doing great, so great, in fact, that some elk herds are beginning to drop below the safe 25:100 calf-to-cow ratio. No, they do not need saving.

Of course when hunting hard prey, such as elk, wolves will not surplus kill. But!

Wikipedia wrote:When prey is vulnerable and abundant, wolves may occasionally surplus kill. Such instances are common in domestic animals, but rare in the wild. In the wild, surplus killing primarily occurs during late winter or spring, when snow is unusually deep (thus impeding the movements of prey) or during the denning period, when wolves require a ready supply of meat when denbound. Medium-sized prey are especially vulnerable to surplus killing, as the swift throat-biting method by which they are killed allows wolves to quickly kill one animal and move on to another. Surplus killing may also occur when adult wolves are teaching their young to hunt.

Wikipedia wrote:In North America, incidences of wolves killing coyotes are common, with such incidences being especially common in winter, when coyotes feed on wolf kills. Wolves may attack coyote den sites, digging out and killing the pups. They rarely eat the coyotes they kill.

And also:

Wikipedia wrote:Wolves are generally not dangerous to humans, as long as they are in low numbers, have sufficient food, have little contact with humans and are occasionally hunted.

Wikipedia wrote:The number of people attacked and killed by wolves varies geographically. Wolf attacks on humans were a rare, but occasional feature of life in pre-20th century Europe: in France alone, historical records indicate that during the period 1580–1830, 3,069 people were killed by wolves, of whom 1,857 were killed by non-rabid wolves.

Wikipedia wrote:Between 1840 and 1861, 273 non-rabid attacks resulting in the deaths of 169 children and 7 adults occurred throughout Russia.

Wikipedia wrote:One study revealed 80 events in Alaska and Canada where wolves closely approached or attacked people, finding 39 cases of aggression by apparently healthy wolves, and 29 cases of fearless behavior by nonaggressive wolves.

Wikipedia wrote:Predatory attacks usually involve single wolves or packs that learn to exploit humans as prey. Such attacks may be preceded by a long period of habituation, in which wolves gradually lose their fear of humans.

Wikipedia wrote:Non-rabid wolves are able to distinguish between armed and unarmed people, and will typically avoid investigating people who display self confident demeanors typical of being armed.

Yeah, I was skimming through that ENTIRE PAGE (and nearly died doing it XD ) trying to find something useful on the populations in the states.

No, Silverfang and SummerFlow, you did not twist my words, I was just frustrated and angry and trying to think of words to describe it. I apologize

And did you not find that information? As well as what I posted? Wolves do surplus kill, and healthy wolves have killed humans before.

And apology accepted, you at least have the decency to admit a mistake ^^

I'm glad everyone is getting along now. We all have different opinions on wolves. Some people would give their lives for them, while others are mainly only focused on wolves like the ethiopian wolf. But it doesn't mean any of us dislike them. We just have different views of their situations.
