Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne

Scarlett's eyes didn't leave the fading figure until he was out of her range of sight. After he'd left, she was alone with her thoughts. Something she didn't want. She wanted everything to be better again. She wanted to see Nai laughing and joking with his friends, and she wanted to be all wrapped up in his arms. All she wanted to do was just bury her face in his fur and know that she was safe, protected from the world's sorrows.
But did she really deserve to be that happy? She'd put him through so much, so many years of let downs. Year after year of rejection, and each day he bounced back as strong and determined as ever. She'd finally made him snap; How could she be so naive? He was everything she wanted and more. How couldn't she have seen that before? How could she have overlooked it so easily? How could she have denied her feelings for this long?

Naikota was deep in thought. He sat up in his room, door closed and locked, with his mother occasionally calling up to ask if he was really okay, out of general motherly concern. Her son wasn't okay. He kept asking himself what was wrong. What did he not have that was one of Scarlett's requirements? Not to be shallow, but he knew he had looks. He was funny, he was protective - as she'd seen today - and he joked around a lot, but he could be serious. He'd been told that he was a good kisser, and he was obviously very caring. So what was it? What did he need? What did he have to change to be perfect for her? Maybe the way he dressed? Perhaps she wanted someone more refined. Maybe his hairstyle? Perhaps. Nai took about ten minutes to re-arrange his hair into different styles, but none seemed to fit him. Okay, so that wasn't it.
After a million different maybe's, he gave up. She didn't like him the way he was. He was so willing to change for her, to change anything about himself to be her Prince Charming. But why should he? No matter what he did, no matter what he changed, there must've just been something about him, something unchangeable, that she couldn't deal with. Something that ticked her off, something that she just hated about him. Something that wouldn't ever leave him. He had to ask, he had to figure out what it was. He reached for his cell phone, dialed Scarlett's number, and pressed talk. The line came up busy, and he hung up, his eyes downcast.

Little did he know, the line was busy for only one reason: Scarlett was trying to call him. She was trying to explain, to tell him that she'd been so stupid and blind and that she needed him. Needed to be with him. She had to explain that she loved the warmth of his embrace, and that she felt as if rockets exploaded inside her when she felt her lips meld onto his. Would he believe her? She didn't know, but she truly, truly hoped so.
After a series of failed calling attempts - Mostly dialing his number then putting the phone down, too shy to talk to him, some having the line busy, some just hanging up as soon as it began ringing - Scar was desperate. She was lying on her bed, her face nestled in her pillow that would never compare to feeling her face so close to Naikota's. She had her blanket wrapped around her, but it's warmth would never make her feel so comfortable like Naikota's. She felt the paws of her parents wrap around her, one after the other, but it could never compare to the feeling of being in his arms, and as she ran over all the kisses she'd had in her life, none of them made her breathless and none of them even came close, no matter how long and sweet, to that one, simple, short kiss she had shared with Nai. Nothing she felt, none of the love and warmth lingering around her would ever compare to him.

Naikota fell asleep shortly after running over his list of maybe's once again. Physically he was tired, but more-so mentally. His dreams were warm and perfect.
He was lying in a beautiful meadow under a cherry blossom tree. And when he looked over, his eyes fell upon her smiling face. Her body curved around his as she leaned up to peck him on the lips - It was just as sweet, he knew, as any of the very long kisses they had shared. Her deep raspberry-colored eyes shone like pink-tinted rubies, and her black hair rested against her pale green shoulders, the pink tips curled up. She wore an elegant black dress, one that looked as though she had come from a prom, but the little hat settled on her head suggested she had just graduated. He glanced down to himself, and found that he was wearing a white dress shirt and black tuxedo pants. He guessed that he had ditched the tux jacket and the graduation robe a while ago. She smiled, placing a paw to his chest.
"Aren't you so happy to have graduated? Now it's only a few more years until we can buy a house and live together." she said sweetly.
He chuckled. "And one more thing."
"What?"
He reached into the pocket of his pants, pulling out a navy blue velvet box. It's tiny gold hinges squeaked as he opened it, revealing a beautiful golden ring encrusted with diamonds inside. "I was hoping we could get married, too." he said with a smile.
She glanced down, tears of happiness brimming in her eyes. "Oh my God... Of course I'll marry you!" she squealed, kissing him passionately after he had slid the ring onto her finger. He wiped away her tears as she began to speak. "I love you so much, Naikota. You've made me the happiest girl in the world."
"Scarlett, you do know that with the happiest girl, has to come the happiest boy, right?"
Scar laughed. "Yes. And I couldn't be happiest-...er that it's you." she giggled.
All of a sudden, the sky went black. Inky fog-like shadows curled around the ground, crawling closer to them. A blidning white light spewed from the sky as a giant crack appeared in it. Lightning and thunder raged around the two. He clutched onto Scarlett, but she slipped, and began to be sucked up into the light. The last thing he heard was her terrified screams of utter pain, before a deafening silence that rang in his ears.

Naikota threw his head up, eyes wide and open. He was panting and sweating, his heartbeat erratic and wild. He looked around, noticing he was in his room. "Just a dream." he whispered, knowing that it would never happen for two reasons. One being that he'd never let her go - he'd hold onto her and go with her if he had to. And the second reason was simple: They'd never be together, he'd never ask her to marry him, and she'd never say yes.

Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne

(Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments! I'll continue with Kay and R-Tu in a moment.
Poor Nai. Spending all night wondering what's wrong with him, when little does he know, he doesn't have to change a thing 3: *Is getting all emotional* Fear my next post, for it will be emotional, such as I. >.>
NOTICE: I wasn't exactly planning on Nai and Scar being anthros, but they are now lol.)

Naikota didn't sleep at all afterward. How could he? It was like his worst fears had come true, even if only in a nightmare. It seemed so real, he could've swore he felt the cold inky tendrils curl around his legs, seething and recoiling like thousands of octopus tentacles mingled with foggy shadows. But it couldn't be. Could it?

Scarlett was startled by a knocking on the door. Rain poured down heavily outside, lightning igniting the sky. She was currently downstairs, making some tea to soothe her. Who on earth would be coming to her house at this time of the night? She checked the clock - Three A.M. Wrapping her housecoat around her pajama-clad self, she moved over to the door, almost reluctant to open it. For some reason, she felt like she had to. And she couldn't have been happier to see rain pouring off of the fur of a gorgeous wolf. Even just the sight of him brought her immense comfort and closure. "Naikota? What in the world are you doing here?" she said quietly, running her eyes over every handsome little detail of his familiar face.

Naikota felt stupid now. The idea had seemed so much better in his head. His wet hair hung loosely in front of his shimmering silver eyes, dripping onto his face. "I had a dream that you got hurt."

"And?"

"I had to make sure you were okay." he whispered, feeling incredibly stupid now. His cheeks flushed red, though it wasn't noticeable in the darkness.

Scarlett smiled in relief, putting a paw to her forehead. "What am I going to do with you?" she murmured, running her other paw over the contours of his cheeks, wiping the rain away though it continued to trickle down in large wet droplets.

Nai looked down, his eyes once again filled with that vulnerable, broken look that Scar had begun to hate seeing just recently, seeing as she knew that she caused it. "I don't know." he muttered. The two were silent for a moment. "Would you like to go on a midnight walk? Please. We have to talk." he said, knowing she'd refuse.

"I'd love to."

The two walked down the puddle-ridden sidewalk, shielded by the light blue umbrella Scarlett had insisted on taking. She knew her parents would kill her if they knew she left the house at three A.M to go walk out in the rain with a boy, but she didn't care right now. She knew that Nai wasn't okay. He was pretty quiet, and he kept his eyes down. "I thought you said we had to talk. You're pretty silent."

Naikota shrugged. "I came prepared with the plan to come up to your door and ask you to go on a walk. My plan didn't really go any farther than that."

Scar laughed quietly. "Well then, I'll start the talking." she suggested, then sighed. "Where to begin... Well, I've noticed in the past few days that... I don't know, I guess I just see you differently than I used to. And when you kissed me, I honestly couldn't breathe - But in a good way. When I saw that look in your eyes, that look of pure loss, I couldn't stand the fact that I'd hurt you so much. I've rejected you time and time again, and caused you so much hurt... But you just don't give up. No matter how badly I treat you, you still remain confident. How do you do it?"

He sighed. "I guess I just figured that one day you'd either have some amazing revolution or I'd move on. Neither had happened yet, and I guess I just kept saying 'maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe next month, maybe next year'. It never really came though, did it?"

Scarlett frowned, thinking over his words. "Not yet, I suppose." she said gently.

He shook his head, laughing grimly under his breath. And when he looked at her, the lightning flashed before him, lighting up the broken look on his face, the dead desperation in his eyes, the pure aura of finally giving up. "And it probably won't anytime soon, will it?"

She bit her lip. "I-I don't know. Maybe. How can you be so sure it hasn't already happened and you just don't know about it."

His voice rose, getting harsher. "You just don't get it, do you? I'm not your type. I'm not the perfect, civilized, mature guy that you wish I would be. I'm not a gentleman, and I personally think that the type of music you like is utter crap. You're a refined, beautiful ballerina who will no doubtedly get a scholarship into some big college and you'll no doubtedly grow up to be a professional, accomplished girl. I'm a skater. I'm in a rock band and I think that dance is seriously boring unless it's breakdance. I'll never go to college, I'll never get a high-rank job, I'll never change the face of the earth. I'll never be seen on TV and I'll never be worldwide. I'll never be a professional, serious guy. I'll never be a husband, I'll never be a dad, I'll never be any of that. I'm a bad influence. I'm just me, and apparently that isn't good enough for you." he growled, his voice breaking up a bit, his feelings pouring out into his voice. It almost sounded as though he were close to tears, but she knew he wasn't.

Scarlett moved closer, putting a paw to his cheek. "Personally, no, you're not my type. We're basically opposites. But have you never heard the saying, 'opposites attract?'. I don't know about you, but I think that just you is pretty amazing. I don't want you to change, Naikota. I want you exactly how you are. I don't care if you don't you're good enough for me, I think that you're perfect just the way you are."

Naikota didn't speak. He couldn't find words.

"Nai, I love--"

"Scarlett watch out!"

The truck slammed into his body at 150 MPH. All that was heard was his scream, followed by hers, a sickening cracking and crunching noise, then pure silence. Sirens cried out in the distance, getting closer and closer. His vision was blurred. All he heard was a high-pitched ringing in his ears. He felt nothing. His eyes flickered open for only a moment to catch a fleeting, fading glimpse of red and blue splotches of blurred color. Then, there was utter silence, and total blackness.

Scarlett's tears fell to the ground harder than the rain, which had begun to cease. "Someone help!" she cried, her voice heavy with tears, cracking and breaking. Her voice was hoarse from screaming. "Please, help!" she screamed, sobs racking her body. She had a paw to his chest, and when she lifted it, sticky crimson liquid clung to it. He was breathing, but just barely. A heartbeat was present, but he was fading fast. "Naikota!" she screamed, holding his beautiful face in her paws. Her head snapped to the side as the ambulance stopped. "Get over here and help him!" she sobbed, then glanced back to his pale, emotionless face with widely opened glassy eyes. "Naikota, speak to me, please!" she cried, desperation in her voice. She needed to hear his voice. To feel the warmth, to see the smiling, laughing face and those bright eyes and know that he was okay. But he wasn't. Not nearly.

It all happened so fast, it was all a blur. All she really knew was that she was now sitting in the back of the ambulance, which was quickly rushing to the hospital as she watched the love of her life's seconds tick by.

Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne

Tear stains still clouding her cheeks, Scarlett sat in a white room. Her eyes once again fell upon Nai's peaceful face, then wandered down his scarred, bloodied body. She was waiting for results; He wasn't dead, she knew that. But what she didn't know was if he would survive. She'd cried out all her tears - Her face was blank, emotionless, but her heart was filled with a terrible dread that nothing could compromise.
A charcoal-black wolf wearing a white coat stepped in. She had her long blonde hair tied up in a bun, and she wore glasses that slipped down her nose. Her golden eyes scanned the clipboard in her paws, then traced over a few words as her eyes rose to meet Scar's. "He's in a deep coma. We have yet to see if he'll live." she said, her soft voice comforting - To everyone but Scarlett.
Naikota's parents sat out in the waiting room, his mother bawling her eyes out and his father desperately trying to console her, while sobbing himself.
Scar hated herself. She did this to him. If she would've just seen that stupid truck... If that stupid guy hadn't decided to drive drunk... None of this would've happened. She should be wrapped up in warmth, the two should be kissing in the rain, far from harm and without their parents' knowledge. They should've laughed as he walked her home, and they both should've snuck into their houses silently and texted each other for the remaining few hours of the night. But all because she didn't see, all because that guy just couldn't get another ride home...
Not only would she not do any of that, but she might not even see him again. She may've not heard his voice ever again, may've not felt his hug, nor one of his amazing kisses. And all because of her, his parents may lose their son. And she may lose her close friend and, admittedly, the one she loved.

Day after day passed. Nai remained in an unbreaking coma, and Scarlett refused to leave his side. She often put her paws to his face, hoping to feel some of the warmth that was just no longer there. Day after day tears poured from her eyes until they dried up all together, and day after day she prayed for him. None of it seemed to help.
One day she swore she saw his eyes flicker open. But after waiting to see it again, she knew that she was just creating false hope for herself.

Four weeks passed. The coma hadn't ceased at all. Naikota's heart rate began to pick up a bit, but only slightly. Still, it was enough to fill Scarlett with loving hope. A day after the four week mark, the doctor said that she had good news. It brightened Scar up.
"I have good news. And bad news." the doctor said quietly. "Good news first?"
"Please. I could use some hope." Scar said, her voice scratchy and hoarse, rough from all the tears.
"Naikota will no longer be in pain. He'll be perfectly happy and perfectly fine."
"Oh thank God!"
"The bad news is..." the doctor lowered her head. "I'm sorry. There's nothing we can do for him."
Scarlett's eyes went wide. Tears began to pour down like waterfalls. "B-but y-you said--"
"He won't be in pain and he'll be happy because we have to stop his heart." she reached for the plug, the one that kept his heart breathing.
Scarlett pushed her away. "No!" she screamed, her voice heavy with sobs. "You can't kill him! He'll live, I know he will! He can't die, he can't die, he can't die! Lovestories like ours always end with a happy ending!" she sobbed.
"Lovestories are... Well, stories, dear. This is reality." the doctor said softly. "I'm so sorry." her paw was only an inch away.
A dead beep filled the room. Nai's heart monitor went in jagged ridges for a moment, then formed a straight line. And it was then that Scarlett swore she could feel her heart shattering into millions of broken, bleeding pieces as her eyes went black, and she dropped to the floor, reaching for any piece of sharp equipment. She could not survive a life without her love. If the doctor had to end his life, she'd be with him.
One way or another.

((Don't worry guys, this isn't the ending.))

Poor Nai. Spending all night wondering what's wrong with him, when little does he know, he doesn't have to change a thing 3: *Is getting all emotional* Fear my next post, for it will be emotional, such as I. >.>

Naikota didn't sleep at all afterward. How could he? It was like his worst fears had come true, even if only in a nightmare.

Well that made me sad. D:
I can't wait for the next chapter, but I am mad/sad that he died. xD

Never actually wrote this one down until now. It's simple, but then again, so is Lola ;)
Edit: Oh man this is horrible! Could someone far more skilled in grammar please correct the mistakes and PM this whole thing to me please? ^^;

Lola loved being on patrol duty. Getting to take a walk was something she rarely did now that she was old enough to go with the Hunting Party. I mean who doesn't enjoy walk-*schreee*!
Lola stopped dead in her tracks.
What was that awful sound? It was unlike any bird she had ever heard. Looking around and seeing nothing, she started to wonder if she had imagined it. Was it a bear? Archer had told her of a bear once and it sounded scary.
*schreee*!
The noise was louder that time. Best of all she knew exactly where it was coming from.
Racing towards the noise, Lola stopped short of it and hid behind a bush.
You know, in case it was a bear.
Peeking out of the bush, Lola saw that it wasn't a bear at all, but a strange metal animal that resembled a wolf. It was trying to turn its head, but it kept getting stuck, making an awful metal grating noise.
*SCHREEE*!
Lola trotted up quickly to the animal. If she was to be killed at least she wouldn't have to hear that awful noise again. She had to walk around it to face it properly.
"Umm.... excuse me..." It felt strange talking to an animal made out of the same material as a bucket. She certainly didn't talk to buckets. "You seem to be making an awful lot of noise. Could you stop?"
"Wheeeoooo" it cried apologetically, but to Lola it was a most mournful noise.
"Oh. Oh." She spun around in circles unsure what to do with this... dog? It was clearly sentient and seemed to understand her. She abruptly stopped spinning as an idea hit her. "Maybe I can help you!" She cried and made to run towards her pack's home. "Umm... stay there." She called over her shoulder.
"Oouuuoo" it hummed.

Within a few minutes Lola had fetched a bucket, put some water in it from the stream and headed back to the creature.
The creature howled when it saw the bucket of water and shrunk back.
"Uuuurrrr" it warbled in alarm. Lola dropped the bucket in front of her.
"Oh. Oh. It's okay! Its useful for when our joints ache. you just soak it like this." She put her paw in the bucket.
"Uuuurrrr"! It replied and shook itself since it couldn't shake its head, trying desperately to convey how deadly water could be to it.
"No water? But its good for you..." Lola sat down feeling a bit rejected and stared at the pail. "At least you can understand me..."
Suddenly Lola jumped up and started spinning in circles again. Surely something would help this poor creature. She just needed to get her brain going some more.
"I got it!" She exclaimed, stopping suddenly and knocking the bucket over.
She picked up the bucket and ran off again.

It took her an hour this time but she trotted over to the creature with many small fruits in the bucket.
"Jerro taught me this trick. it's for when water doesn't work."
The creature tiled its head slightly and made a series of small questioning beeps while it watched Lola step on the small fruits in the bucket.

It was dinnertime by the time Lola had finished squishing enough olives to make a very messy, slippery paste. The creature was apprehensive at first but Lola managed to get it to agree to put some in it's paw joint first. The paste worked well and soon Lola was putting the small amount of paste she had into the thing's neck joint.
"Wheeeooo" It warbled, happily wagging it's metal tail. Lola giggled.
"You sure act like one of us. Do you have a home?"
*beep*
"Uhh... I suppose that means no?"
"Wheeeooo"
"And.. that means yes?"
"Wheeeooo"
"Well... why don't you come home with me then?"
"Wheeeooo" it warbled happily.
A new friend might be fun.

Awww, I love it! C: It is simple, like you said, but it's very fun and cute. I like how she just goes up to it and asks it to stop making noise.

He was a boy.
"Ugh, a terrible one at that."
She was a girl.
"A stuck-up Daddy's girl."
Can I make it anymore obvious?
"He thinks he's so cool." "She thinks she's the greatest."
He was a punk.
"Correction, a loser."
She did ballet.
"She'd know what real music was if she gave me a go."
What more can I say?
"We're opposites." "And she hates me."
He wanted her.
"Obvious enough, right?"
She'd never tell.
"Sure, right."
Secretely she wanted him as well.
"Yeah, right."
But all of her friends stuck up their nose.
"He thinks everyone loves him."
They had a problem with his baggy clothes.
"I mean, does he even know the definition of 'gentleman'?"

He was a skater boy,
She said, "See 'ya later boy."
He wasn't good enough for her.
She had a pretty face,
But her head was up in space.
She needed to come back down to Earth!
