As the old woman tottered down the dirt path that led her through the small village of tents, a cool breeze played at her ankles and whispered in her ears. Her shawl fluttered around her body as she continued on her way back to her own tent at the end of the path.

The soft breeze carried a mournful sound to her ears and she paused, closing her eyes to listen. At first just a low moan, then followed by a sob and sniffing of the nose. They were sounds that led her to only one conclusion - in one of the tents, a child was crying.

Tilting her head to one side, she listened closer still, searching for a hint as to which tent the child sat in. The breeze beckoned to her, pulling her in the direction of a rather shabby tent, set apart from the others almost as if it were an outcast. She listened once again ... and there it was; the crying continued.

The old woman nodded her thanks to the breeze. Stepping closer to the tent, she peered through one of the holes to see a heart-wrenching sight. A boy, no older then nine, sat on the dirt floor. In his arms lay a baby girl, sound asleep. He sat there stroking her tiny head as quiet sobs erupted from his body.

The breeze gave the woman a gentle push towards the entrance and she lightly stepped into the tent. The boy's head shot up and she could see fear in his black eyes. She smiled softly at him, reaching one hand out to wipe the tears from his eyes.

"My child, why do you cry so?"

Fresh tears welled up in his eyes as he tore his gaze away from the woman to gaze at the baby girl he held cradled in his arms. "This is my sister, miss. Our parents died awhile back and I've had to support us both. But we have no money and such little food ... and she's paid the price."

The woman's eyes widened as she took in what he was saying ... and figured out what he wasn't saying. She had mistakenly believed the baby girl to be asleep, and so she was but barely. She reached out finger to stroke the girl's face and felt the heat of fever and scent of sickness upon her.

The old woman backed out of the tent and beckoned for the breeze to bring her two leaves from the baobab tree that stood near the little tent and two feathers from the blackbird nest hidden within its branches. The breeze did her bidding and once again, she nodded her thanks as she stepped back into the tent.

As the boy watched her with huge eyes, she cupped the leaves in her hands and whispered.

"Blackbird sing in die middel van die nag
Neem hierdie stukkende vlerke en leer om te vlieg
Al jou lewe
Jy was net wag vir die oomblik om op te staan"

She blew gently into her hands and opened them. Four butterflies sat on her fingertips, slowly pulsing their wings. The boy stared in amazement, his tears forgotten as he watched the butterflies flutter over his sister.

The old woman smiled. "She will be safe and well now, my child." As she stood up to brush the dirt from her knees, the boy set his sleeping sister down and embraced the woman, murmuring his thanks and gratitude. He released her and knelt back down, watching his sister with eyes that sparkled with faith and hope.

The woman quietly let herself out of the tent, turning away from it to see solemn-faced baboon gazing at her. The wind whipped at her dress and blew back the tufts of the baboon's fur from his wise old face. She beckoned and he ran to her, hopping onto her back and patting her cheeks. She laughed as he did so and took his small monkey hands in her own.

"Yes, my Rafiki, we've done ourselves proud tonight."

Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne

Scarlett's eyes didn't leave the fading figure until he was out of her range of sight. After he'd left, she was alone with her thoughts. Something she didn't want. She wanted everything to be better again. She wanted to see Nai laughing and joking with his friends, and she wanted to be all wrapped up in his arms. All she wanted to do was just bury her face in his fur and know that she was safe, protected from the world's sorrows.
But did she really deserve to be that happy? She'd put him through so much, so many years of let downs. Year after year of rejection, and each day he bounced back as strong and determined as ever. She'd finally made him snap; How could she be so naive? He was everything she wanted and more. How couldn't she have seen that before? How could she have overlooked it so easily? How could she have denied her feelings for this long?

Naikota was deep in thought. He sat up in his room, door closed and locked, with his mother occasionally calling up to ask if he was really okay, out of general motherly concern. Her son wasn't okay. He kept asking himself what was wrong. What did he not have that was one of Scarlett's requirements? Not to be shallow, but he knew he had looks. He was funny, he was protective - as she'd seen today - and he joked around a lot, but he could be serious. He'd been told that he was a good kisser, and he was obviously very caring. So what was it? What did he need? What did he have to change to be perfect for her? Maybe the way he dressed? Perhaps she wanted someone more refined. Maybe his hairstyle? Perhaps. Nai took about ten minutes to re-arrange his hair into different styles, but none seemed to fit him. Okay, so that wasn't it.
After a million different maybe's, he gave up. She didn't like him the way he was. He was so willing to change for her, to change anything about himself to be her Prince Charming. But why should he? No matter what he did, no matter what he changed, there must've just been something about him, something unchangeable, that she couldn't deal with. Something that ticked her off, something that she just hated about him. Something that wouldn't ever leave him. He had to ask, he had to figure out what it was. He reached for his cell phone, dialed Scarlett's number, and pressed talk. The line came up busy, and he hung up, his eyes downcast.

Little did he know, the line was busy for only one reason: Scarlett was trying to call him. She was trying to explain, to tell him that she'd been so stupid and blind and that she needed him. Needed to be with him. She had to explain that she loved the warmth of his embrace, and that she felt as if rockets exploaded inside her when she felt her lips meld onto his. Would he believe her? She didn't know, but she truly, truly hoped so.
After a series of failed calling attempts - Mostly dialing his number then putting the phone down, too shy to talk to him, some having the line busy, some just hanging up as soon as it began ringing - Scar was desperate. She was lying on her bed, her face nestled in her pillow that would never compare to feeling her face so close to Naikota's. She had her blanket wrapped around her, but it's warmth would never make her feel so comfortable like Naikota's. She felt the paws of her parents wrap around her, one after the other, but it could never compare to the feeling of being in his arms, and as she ran over all the kisses she'd had in her life, none of them made her breathless and none of them even came close, no matter how long and sweet, to that one, simple, short kiss she had shared with Nai. Nothing she felt, none of the love and warmth lingering around her would ever compare to him.

Naikota fell asleep shortly after running over his list of maybe's once again. Physically he was tired, but more-so mentally. His dreams were warm and perfect.
He was lying in a beautiful meadow under a cherry blossom tree. And when he looked over, his eyes fell upon her smiling face. Her body curved around his as she leaned up to peck him on the lips - It was just as sweet, he knew, as any of the very long kisses they had shared. Her deep raspberry-colored eyes shone like pink-tinted rubies, and her black hair rested against her pale green shoulders, the pink tips curled up. She wore an elegant black dress, one that looked as though she had come from a prom, but the little hat settled on her head suggested she had just graduated. He glanced down to himself, and found that he was wearing a white dress shirt and black tuxedo pants. He guessed that he had ditched the tux jacket and the graduation robe a while ago. She smiled, placing a paw to his chest.
"Aren't you so happy to have graduated? Now it's only a few more years until we can buy a house and live together." she said sweetly.
He chuckled. "And one more thing."
"What?"
He reached into the pocket of his pants, pulling out a navy blue velvet box. It's tiny gold hinges squeaked as he opened it, revealing a beautiful golden ring encrusted with diamonds inside. "I was hoping we could get married, too." he said with a smile.
She glanced down, tears of happiness brimming in her eyes. "Oh my God... Of course I'll marry you!" she squealed, kissing him passionately after he had slid the ring onto her finger. He wiped away her tears as she began to speak. "I love you so much, Naikota. You've made me the happiest girl in the world."
"Scarlett, you do know that with the happiest girl, has to come the happiest boy, right?"
Scar laughed. "Yes. And I couldn't be happiest-...er that it's you." she giggled.
All of a sudden, the sky went black. Inky fog-like shadows curled around the ground, crawling closer to them. A blidning white light spewed from the sky as a giant crack appeared in it. Lightning and thunder raged around the two. He clutched onto Scarlett, but she slipped, and began to be sucked up into the light. The last thing he heard was her terrified screams of utter pain, before a deafening silence that rang in his ears.

Naikota threw his head up, eyes wide and open. He was panting and sweating, his heartbeat erratic and wild. He looked around, noticing he was in his room. "Just a dream." he whispered, knowing that it would never happen for two reasons. One being that he'd never let her go - he'd hold onto her and go with her if he had to. And the second reason was simple: They'd never be together, he'd never ask her to marry him, and she'd never say yes.

Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne

(Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments! I'll continue with Kay and R-Tu in a moment.
Poor Nai. Spending all night wondering what's wrong with him, when little does he know, he doesn't have to change a thing 3: *Is getting all emotional* Fear my next post, for it will be emotional, such as I. >.>
NOTICE: I wasn't exactly planning on Nai and Scar being anthros, but they are now lol.)

Naikota didn't sleep at all afterward. How could he? It was like his worst fears had come true, even if only in a nightmare. It seemed so real, he could've swore he felt the cold inky tendrils curl around his legs, seething and recoiling like thousands of octopus tentacles mingled with foggy shadows. But it couldn't be. Could it?

Scarlett was startled by a knocking on the door. Rain poured down heavily outside, lightning igniting the sky. She was currently downstairs, making some tea to soothe her. Who on earth would be coming to her house at this time of the night? She checked the clock - Three A.M. Wrapping her housecoat around her pajama-clad self, she moved over to the door, almost reluctant to open it. For some reason, she felt like she had to. And she couldn't have been happier to see rain pouring off of the fur of a gorgeous wolf. Even just the sight of him brought her immense comfort and closure. "Naikota? What in the world are you doing here?" she said quietly, running her eyes over every handsome little detail of his familiar face.

Naikota felt stupid now. The idea had seemed so much better in his head. His wet hair hung loosely in front of his shimmering silver eyes, dripping onto his face. "I had a dream that you got hurt."

"And?"

"I had to make sure you were okay." he whispered, feeling incredibly stupid now. His cheeks flushed red, though it wasn't noticeable in the darkness.

Scarlett smiled in relief, putting a paw to her forehead. "What am I going to do with you?" she murmured, running her other paw over the contours of his cheeks, wiping the rain away though it continued to trickle down in large wet droplets.

Nai looked down, his eyes once again filled with that vulnerable, broken look that Scar had begun to hate seeing just recently, seeing as she knew that she caused it. "I don't know." he muttered. The two were silent for a moment. "Would you like to go on a midnight walk? Please. We have to talk." he said, knowing she'd refuse.

"I'd love to."

The two walked down the puddle-ridden sidewalk, shielded by the light blue umbrella Scarlett had insisted on taking. She knew her parents would kill her if they knew she left the house at three A.M to go walk out in the rain with a boy, but she didn't care right now. She knew that Nai wasn't okay. He was pretty quiet, and he kept his eyes down. "I thought you said we had to talk. You're pretty silent."

Naikota shrugged. "I came prepared with the plan to come up to your door and ask you to go on a walk. My plan didn't really go any farther than that."

Scar laughed quietly. "Well then, I'll start the talking." she suggested, then sighed. "Where to begin... Well, I've noticed in the past few days that... I don't know, I guess I just see you differently than I used to. And when you kissed me, I honestly couldn't breathe - But in a good way. When I saw that look in your eyes, that look of pure loss, I couldn't stand the fact that I'd hurt you so much. I've rejected you time and time again, and caused you so much hurt... But you just don't give up. No matter how badly I treat you, you still remain confident. How do you do it?"

He sighed. "I guess I just figured that one day you'd either have some amazing revolution or I'd move on. Neither had happened yet, and I guess I just kept saying 'maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe next month, maybe next year'. It never really came though, did it?"

Scarlett frowned, thinking over his words. "Not yet, I suppose." she said gently.

He shook his head, laughing grimly under his breath. And when he looked at her, the lightning flashed before him, lighting up the broken look on his face, the dead desperation in his eyes, the pure aura of finally giving up. "And it probably won't anytime soon, will it?"

She bit her lip. "I-I don't know. Maybe. How can you be so sure it hasn't already happened and you just don't know about it."

His voice rose, getting harsher. "You just don't get it, do you? I'm not your type. I'm not the perfect, civilized, mature guy that you wish I would be. I'm not a gentleman, and I personally think that the type of music you like is utter crap. You're a refined, beautiful ballerina who will no doubtedly get a scholarship into some big college and you'll no doubtedly grow up to be a professional, accomplished girl. I'm a skater. I'm in a rock band and I think that dance is seriously boring unless it's breakdance. I'll never go to college, I'll never get a high-rank job, I'll never change the face of the earth. I'll never be seen on TV and I'll never be worldwide. I'll never be a professional, serious guy. I'll never be a husband, I'll never be a dad, I'll never be any of that. I'm a bad influence. I'm just me, and apparently that isn't good enough for you." he growled, his voice breaking up a bit, his feelings pouring out into his voice. It almost sounded as though he were close to tears, but she knew he wasn't.

Scarlett moved closer, putting a paw to his cheek. "Personally, no, you're not my type. We're basically opposites. But have you never heard the saying, 'opposites attract?'. I don't know about you, but I think that just you is pretty amazing. I don't want you to change, Naikota. I want you exactly how you are. I don't care if you don't you're good enough for me, I think that you're perfect just the way you are."

Naikota didn't speak. He couldn't find words.

"Nai, I love--"

"Scarlett watch out!"

The truck slammed into his body at 150 MPH. All that was heard was his scream, followed by hers, a sickening cracking and crunching noise, then pure silence. Sirens cried out in the distance, getting closer and closer. His vision was blurred. All he heard was a high-pitched ringing in his ears. He felt nothing. His eyes flickered open for only a moment to catch a fleeting, fading glimpse of red and blue splotches of blurred color. Then, there was utter silence, and total blackness.

Scarlett's tears fell to the ground harder than the rain, which had begun to cease. "Someone help!" she cried, her voice heavy with tears, cracking and breaking. Her voice was hoarse from screaming. "Please, help!" she screamed, sobs racking her body. She had a paw to his chest, and when she lifted it, sticky crimson liquid clung to it. He was breathing, but just barely. A heartbeat was present, but he was fading fast. "Naikota!" she screamed, holding his beautiful face in her paws. Her head snapped to the side as the ambulance stopped. "Get over here and help him!" she sobbed, then glanced back to his pale, emotionless face with widely opened glassy eyes. "Naikota, speak to me, please!" she cried, desperation in her voice. She needed to hear his voice. To feel the warmth, to see the smiling, laughing face and those bright eyes and know that he was okay. But he wasn't. Not nearly.

It all happened so fast, it was all a blur. All she really knew was that she was now sitting in the back of the ambulance, which was quickly rushing to the hospital as she watched the love of her life's seconds tick by.

Robotic Test Unit #1315 (R-Tu) & Kay

My eyes wandered around the high-tech facility. My father owned this place; That's the only reason I was there. Never would I have entered this place on my own free will. For about the millionth time, I cursed Bring-Your-Daughter-To-Work Day. "Dad, this place creeps me out." I commented as I ran my eyes over the polished silver equipment that I obviously had no clue of what it was supposed to accomplish.
"C'mon honey. I'll take you into a different room. A less creepy one." he said in his fatherly everything-is-fine tone. He led me into a white room. Huge glass tubes lined the walls, each one housing a different object.
"This place is creepier." I murmured as I looked around.
"Well then why don't you meet my newest creation, R-Tu." Dad said, gesturing to a glass tube. He opened it up, and inside, a robotic wolf sprung to life. It slid out to meet me, and I really just wanted to leave. Sadly, my dad had to take a call, and I was left alone with his "creation".
"Um, hi, R-Tu?" I said awkwardly.
"Greetings canine. May I request the analog you have been inscribed?"
"Huh?"
The robot's ink-black eyes flashed with a blinding white, almost like that of the flash on a camera. It made an odd noise that sounded like chuckling. "Or as you canines call it, your... Name?"
"Oh. I'm Kay."
"Pleasure to meet you canine known as Kay. I am Robotic Test Unit #1315. Or put into rather defined simplicity, R-Tu."

((Shall I continue? Sorry for double posting, I just got the robot dog and I thought this would be a great story idea.))

Robotic Test Unit #1315 (R-Tu) & Kay

"So let me get this straight. You're a robot?"
"If by 'robot', you mean Robotic Test Unit, then affirmative."
"Uh, yeah, that's what I meant."
"So [Kay], may I question you of some general afflictions? They are necessary for your best success."
"General what? My best success at what?"
"Good. Have you ever had [bzzzztttt] Recalculating." the robotic canine took a moment, before speaking again. "Any given illness such as: Chicken pox, measles, mumps, the kissing disease--"
"Uh, no, I don't think so." Kay cut him off.
"I see that you must be impatient, seeing as you did not allow my continuation. Have you ever suffered any mental illness such as--"
"No, I haven't suffered any mental illnesses." Kay said, her brows knitted together questioningly.
"Have you ever suffered any type of sense illness such as--"
"Okay, no, I haven't!"
R-Tu's eyes flashed white for a moment. "Mental note: Is not refined to waiting. Does not enjoy techniques such as lists."
Kay sighed. "So what am I trying to get success at?"
R-Tu made an odd noise that sounded like awkward, steel-coated laughter. "For general success at all things missionary, [bzzzztttt]. You best watch out for the [bzzzzzzttttt]. Recalculating."
"Ugh, useless robot."
"Robotic Test Unit."
"Whatever!" Kay growled, leaving the room.

@Warn: .....
....
Nai better not die, Warn. Or ima be maddddddddddddddddddd.

Iceyrn && Carter
(search their names for first part)

Carter was alone.
More alone than he could EVER be. He felt a emotion for Iceyrn that he had never felt before.
Twas' it love, on that faithful day? No, he thought. Couldnt be.

He started to ponder and ponder, reminding himself of the sadness. He could see Iceyrn now- up in Heaven, her halo held high, in her spring wings and outfit.. a smile on her face..
Or was that a frown he thought upon her face? Possibly.
Nothing he thought was for sure, it was all just a... a maybe. Sadness sure covered his face.

~~~
A few months passed, and Carter swears he didnt smile one day of those 3 months.
How could he?
From being abandoned in the woods to being alone to finding a best friend then her dying, how could he smile?
Nothing in his life was happy anymore.
He wasnt happy.
He can still picture Iceyrn before she had the halo above her head. Carter sobbed at the thought. He couldnt get her out of his mind.
"Iceyrn.." He whispered. "Iceyrn... I miss you... Come back to me. Remove that halo from your head, smash it to peices... just.. come back to me. My life is sorrow without you." He sobbed. "Please.."
A glowing figure appeared in front of him.
Was it Iceyrn? As it got dimmer the figure appeared less blurry.
He could see it perfectly.
It was Iceyrn- halo hung high. Carter sobbed with happiness and tackled Iceyrn with joy.
"Oh Iceyrn!!" He cried. "I cant believe your here... I missed you so much."
Iceyrn giggled. "Yes, Carter. I am here." She clung to her halo and hastily let go. "But I am not here to remove my halo- see, that is impossible. If I remove my halo I wont any longer be in Heaven. I will be a cold body left on earth, Ill never see the wonders of the afterlife." She frowned, seriousness in her voice.
"Oh.." Carter hesitated. "I see. Then what are you doing here? What is it like in Heaven?"
Iceyrn grinned. "One," She said. "Heaven is... beautiful. Too hard to explain. Just... wonderful." She laughed. "And second," She hugged Carter. "Im here to be your Guardian Angel."
Carter gasped. "Really? Just one question... not that its not AMAZING, but why you?" He asked. Iceyrn pondered this for a moment. "Well, Carter, my angel friends and bosses thought since I was your best friend id be able to communicate and speak to you better. They just thought I was a perfect fit."
Carter was in shock. Was this all a dream, did he have to be pinched to be woken?
The earth started unexpectedly crumbling before his eyes. Iceyrn floated back into the sky without him. "Iceyrn???" He yelled. "Iceyrn!! How could you just leave me here???" Carter regreted those last words.
he knew exactly.
The angels regarded all angels to come back before the world would end, crumble up.
He knew if she could, she would stay with him. He could hear her distant sobs, and she could hear his.
His ehart was racing, beating so fast it felt like it was going to pop.
Carter's head slammed against the tree trunk in the middle of the night.
It was all just a dream.
Carter sobbed quietly and sniffled once and a while to know that all this was just a dream.
~~
He fell into deep sleep after noticing his previous nightmare was just what it was, a nightmare.
Iceyrn fell from above with her halo hung high. She was really here to guide him.
I guess his dream came true.
They were reunited with friendshiply love...
<3
They all lived Happily ever after... All was good. I suppose stories, or at least this one, does have a happy ending.
Your finally back with m e
after being passed in my final f.antasy_
I Cant believe your here,
Is it really true? Are you really n*ea*r?
I have to believe, your back with me
Finally with me, in my final f.antasy_
<33333
Ending part.
Flora[f]..............Tye[m]
She was just his apprentice.
Entering the world of chemicals and science.
But behind that coat, there was something more.
Hummel, the normal sweet guy she knew.
Then there was the coated Hummel.
The guy who didn't know her name, who didn't give a second glance.
She only saw one side.
But she wish she saw the other.
[I think I'll make a story for them. Would you guys want one?]
[Edit Reason: Changed Hummel's name to Tye. <3]
"She'd know what real music was if she gave me a go."
What more can I say?
"We're opposites." "And she hates me."
He wanted her.
"Obvious enough, right?"
She'd never tell.
"Sure, right."
Secretely she wanted him as well.
"Yeah, right."
But all of her friends stuck up their nose.
"He thinks everyone loves him."
They had a problem with his baggy clothes.
"I mean, does he even know the definition of 'gentleman'?"
He was a skater boy,
She said, "See 'ya later boy."
He wasn't good enough for her.
She had a pretty face,
But her head was up in space.
She needed to come back down to Earth!
Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne
Scarlett's eyes didn't leave the fading figure until he was out of her range of sight. After he'd left, she was alone with her thoughts. Something she didn't want. She wanted everything to be better again. She wanted to see Nai laughing and joking with his friends, and she wanted to be all wrapped up in his arms. All she wanted to do was just bury her face in his fur and know that she was safe, protected from the world's sorrows.
But did she really deserve to be that happy? She'd put him through so much, so many years of let downs. Year after year of rejection, and each day he bounced back as strong and determined as ever. She'd finally made him snap; How could she be so naive? He was everything she wanted and more. How couldn't she have seen that before? How could she have overlooked it so easily? How could she have denied her feelings for this long?
Naikota was deep in thought. He sat up in his room, door closed and locked, with his mother occasionally calling up to ask if he was really okay, out of general motherly concern. Her son wasn't okay. He kept asking himself what was wrong. What did he not have that was one of Scarlett's requirements? Not to be shallow, but he knew he had looks. He was funny, he was protective - as she'd seen today - and he joked around a lot, but he could be serious. He'd been told that he was a good kisser, and he was obviously very caring. So what was it? What did he need? What did he have to change to be perfect for her? Maybe the way he dressed? Perhaps she wanted someone more refined. Maybe his hairstyle? Perhaps. Nai took about ten minutes to re-arrange his hair into different styles, but none seemed to fit him. Okay, so that wasn't it.
After a million different maybe's, he gave up. She didn't like him the way he was. He was so willing to change for her, to change anything about himself to be her Prince Charming. But why should he? No matter what he did, no matter what he changed, there must've just been something about him, something unchangeable, that she couldn't deal with. Something that ticked her off, something that she just hated about him. Something that wouldn't ever leave him. He had to ask, he had to figure out what it was. He reached for his cell phone, dialed Scarlett's number, and pressed talk. The line came up busy, and he hung up, his eyes downcast.
Little did he know, the line was busy for only one reason: Scarlett was trying to call him. She was trying to explain, to tell him that she'd been so stupid and blind and that she needed him. Needed to be with him. She had to explain that she loved the warmth of his embrace, and that she felt as if rockets exploaded inside her when she felt her lips meld onto his. Would he believe her? She didn't know, but she truly, truly hoped so.
After a series of failed calling attempts - Mostly dialing his number then putting the phone down, too shy to talk to him, some having the line busy, some just hanging up as soon as it began ringing - Scar was desperate. She was lying on her bed, her face nestled in her pillow that would never compare to feeling her face so close to Naikota's. She had her blanket wrapped around her, but it's warmth would never make her feel so comfortable like Naikota's. She felt the paws of her parents wrap around her, one after the other, but it could never compare to the feeling of being in his arms, and as she ran over all the kisses she'd had in her life, none of them made her breathless and none of them even came close, no matter how long and sweet, to that one, simple, short kiss she had shared with Nai. Nothing she felt, none of the love and warmth lingering around her would ever compare to him.
Naikota fell asleep shortly after running over his list of maybe's once again. Physically he was tired, but more-so mentally. His dreams were warm and perfect.
He was lying in a beautiful meadow under a cherry blossom tree. And when he looked over, his eyes fell upon her smiling face. Her body curved around his as she leaned up to peck him on the lips - It was just as sweet, he knew, as any of the very long kisses they had shared. Her deep raspberry-colored eyes shone like pink-tinted rubies, and her black hair rested against her pale green shoulders, the pink tips curled up. She wore an elegant black dress, one that looked as though she had come from a prom, but the little hat settled on her head suggested she had just graduated. He glanced down to himself, and found that he was wearing a white dress shirt and black tuxedo pants. He guessed that he had ditched the tux jacket and the graduation robe a while ago. She smiled, placing a paw to his chest.
"Aren't you so happy to have graduated? Now it's only a few more years until we can buy a house and live together." she said sweetly.
He chuckled. "And one more thing."
"What?"
He reached into the pocket of his pants, pulling out a navy blue velvet box. It's tiny gold hinges squeaked as he opened it, revealing a beautiful golden ring encrusted with diamonds inside. "I was hoping we could get married, too." he said with a smile.
She glanced down, tears of happiness brimming in her eyes. "Oh my God... Of course I'll marry you!" she squealed, kissing him passionately after he had slid the ring onto her finger. He wiped away her tears as she began to speak. "I love you so much, Naikota. You've made me the happiest girl in the world."
"Scarlett, you do know that with the happiest girl, has to come the happiest boy, right?"
Scar laughed. "Yes. And I couldn't be happiest-...er that it's you." she giggled.
All of a sudden, the sky went black. Inky fog-like shadows curled around the ground, crawling closer to them. A blidning white light spewed from the sky as a giant crack appeared in it. Lightning and thunder raged around the two. He clutched onto Scarlett, but she slipped, and began to be sucked up into the light. The last thing he heard was her terrified screams of utter pain, before a deafening silence that rang in his ears.
Naikota threw his head up, eyes wide and open. He was panting and sweating, his heartbeat erratic and wild. He looked around, noticing he was in his room. "Just a dream." he whispered, knowing that it would never happen for two reasons. One being that he'd never let her go - he'd hold onto her and go with her if he had to. And the second reason was simple: They'd never be together, he'd never ask her to marry him, and she'd never say yes.
He was a boy.
"Ugh, a terrible one at that."
She was a girl.
"A stuck-up Daddy's girl."
Can I make it anymore obvious?
"He thinks he's so cool." "She thinks she's the greatest."
He was a punk.
"Correction, a loser."
She did ballet.
(Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments! I'll continue with Kay and R-Tu in a moment.
Poor Nai. Spending all night wondering what's wrong with him, when little does he know, he doesn't have to change a thing 3: *Is getting all emotional* Fear my next post, for it will be emotional, such as I. >.>
NOTICE: I wasn't exactly planning on Nai and Scar being anthros, but they are now lol.)
Naikota didn't sleep at all afterward. How could he? It was like his worst fears had come true, even if only in a nightmare. It seemed so real, he could've swore he felt the cold inky tendrils curl around his legs, seething and recoiling like thousands of octopus tentacles mingled with foggy shadows. But it couldn't be. Could it?
Scarlett was startled by a knocking on the door. Rain poured down heavily outside, lightning igniting the sky. She was currently downstairs, making some tea to soothe her. Who on earth would be coming to her house at this time of the night? She checked the clock - Three A.M. Wrapping her housecoat around her pajama-clad self, she moved over to the door, almost reluctant to open it. For some reason, she felt like she had to. And she couldn't have been happier to see rain pouring off of the fur of a gorgeous wolf. Even just the sight of him brought her immense comfort and closure. "Naikota? What in the world are you doing here?" she said quietly, running her eyes over every handsome little detail of his familiar face.
Naikota felt stupid now. The idea had seemed so much better in his head. His wet hair hung loosely in front of his shimmering silver eyes, dripping onto his face. "I had a dream that you got hurt."
"And?"
"I had to make sure you were okay." he whispered, feeling incredibly stupid now. His cheeks flushed red, though it wasn't noticeable in the darkness.
Scarlett smiled in relief, putting a paw to her forehead. "What am I going to do with you?" she murmured, running her other paw over the contours of his cheeks, wiping the rain away though it continued to trickle down in large wet droplets.
Nai looked down, his eyes once again filled with that vulnerable, broken look that Scar had begun to hate seeing just recently, seeing as she knew that she caused it. "I don't know." he muttered. The two were silent for a moment. "Would you like to go on a midnight walk? Please. We have to talk." he said, knowing she'd refuse.
"I'd love to."
The two walked down the puddle-ridden sidewalk, shielded by the light blue umbrella Scarlett had insisted on taking. She knew her parents would kill her if they knew she left the house at three A.M to go walk out in the rain with a boy, but she didn't care right now. She knew that Nai wasn't okay. He was pretty quiet, and he kept his eyes down. "I thought you said we had to talk. You're pretty silent."
Naikota shrugged. "I came prepared with the plan to come up to your door and ask you to go on a walk. My plan didn't really go any farther than that."
Scar laughed quietly. "Well then, I'll start the talking." she suggested, then sighed. "Where to begin... Well, I've noticed in the past few days that... I don't know, I guess I just see you differently than I used to. And when you kissed me, I honestly couldn't breathe - But in a good way. When I saw that look in your eyes, that look of pure loss, I couldn't stand the fact that I'd hurt you so much. I've rejected you time and time again, and caused you so much hurt... But you just don't give up. No matter how badly I treat you, you still remain confident. How do you do it?"
He sighed. "I guess I just figured that one day you'd either have some amazing revolution or I'd move on. Neither had happened yet, and I guess I just kept saying 'maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe next month, maybe next year'. It never really came though, did it?"
Scarlett frowned, thinking over his words. "Not yet, I suppose." she said gently.
He shook his head, laughing grimly under his breath. And when he looked at her, the lightning flashed before him, lighting up the broken look on his face, the dead desperation in his eyes, the pure aura of finally giving up. "And it probably won't anytime soon, will it?"
She bit her lip. "I-I don't know. Maybe. How can you be so sure it hasn't already happened and you just don't know about it."
His voice rose, getting harsher. "You just don't get it, do you? I'm not your type. I'm not the perfect, civilized, mature guy that you wish I would be. I'm not a gentleman, and I personally think that the type of music you like is utter crap. You're a refined, beautiful ballerina who will no doubtedly get a scholarship into some big college and you'll no doubtedly grow up to be a professional, accomplished girl. I'm a skater. I'm in a rock band and I think that dance is seriously boring unless it's breakdance. I'll never go to college, I'll never get a high-rank job, I'll never change the face of the earth. I'll never be seen on TV and I'll never be worldwide. I'll never be a professional, serious guy. I'll never be a husband, I'll never be a dad, I'll never be any of that. I'm a bad influence. I'm just me, and apparently that isn't good enough for you." he growled, his voice breaking up a bit, his feelings pouring out into his voice. It almost sounded as though he were close to tears, but she knew he wasn't.
Scarlett moved closer, putting a paw to his cheek. "Personally, no, you're not my type. We're basically opposites. But have you never heard the saying, 'opposites attract?'. I don't know about you, but I think that just you is pretty amazing. I don't want you to change, Naikota. I want you exactly how you are. I don't care if you don't you're good enough for me, I think that you're perfect just the way you are."
Naikota didn't speak. He couldn't find words.
"Nai, I love--"
"Scarlett watch out!"
The truck slammed into his body at 150 MPH. All that was heard was his scream, followed by hers, a sickening cracking and crunching noise, then pure silence. Sirens cried out in the distance, getting closer and closer. His vision was blurred. All he heard was a high-pitched ringing in his ears. He felt nothing. His eyes flickered open for only a moment to catch a fleeting, fading glimpse of red and blue splotches of blurred color. Then, there was utter silence, and total blackness.
Scarlett's tears fell to the ground harder than the rain, which had begun to cease. "Someone help!" she cried, her voice heavy with tears, cracking and breaking. Her voice was hoarse from screaming. "Please, help!" she screamed, sobs racking her body. She had a paw to his chest, and when she lifted it, sticky crimson liquid clung to it. He was breathing, but just barely. A heartbeat was present, but he was fading fast. "Naikota!" she screamed, holding his beautiful face in her paws. Her head snapped to the side as the ambulance stopped. "Get over here and help him!" she sobbed, then glanced back to his pale, emotionless face with widely opened glassy eyes. "Naikota, speak to me, please!" she cried, desperation in her voice. She needed to hear his voice. To feel the warmth, to see the smiling, laughing face and those bright eyes and know that he was okay. But he wasn't. Not nearly.
It all happened so fast, it was all a blur. All she really knew was that she was now sitting in the back of the ambulance, which was quickly rushing to the hospital as she watched the love of her life's seconds tick by.
More, or I will die. @.@
"They say you'll grow to be powerful."
The young woman murmured, cradling the delicate child in her arms. "They say you'll be the one to rid us of this darkness. But you are only a baby."
She continued, her long ebony hair falling over her proud features. "I don't see how you will change things."
Loraetta sat against the cold stone wall, listening to the chaos unfold behind her- for the hundredth time that day she was grateful that she was hidden behind the wall.
The child cringed every now and then at the alarmed shouts.
"Zael is missing!"
"Find him!"
"The prince has gone!"
Loraetta pressed her hands to the child's ears. "Don't listen to them. They're bad people, they'll raise you wrong and you'll be the end of us."
Young prince Zael stirred restlessly.
"Not that I blame you, little one. It couldn't be helped. I have stolen you, I will raise you amongst my friends and family- then you may make your own decision on which road to take. A free decision, not with dark bias."
The child reached out a tiny hand, and curled it to her cheek.
"Yes," Loraetta smiled "You will be great."
Paul (M) and Rebecca (F)
I heard the bell ring, singaling the end of the school day. I grabbed my books and stuffed them in my bookbag. I heaved it onto my shoulders and got up, getting bumped into as I went. As I left the classroom, I heard their hushed whispers and saw their ill-hidden pointing. I held my head up high, trying not to show them my pain.
" Oof! " I cried as I crashed into Paul. I fell down to the ground.
"You said you would never leave, you lied to me." The words echoed in my mind like someone had just yeled into a cannon. I sat by the window looking out at the silent night sky praying quietly that I could go back in time. Back to when we had each other, back to when we used to push each other off of the dock and into the pond, back to us.
