- woooo this was fun c:
I know I said I would in the last post too but I'll update this and the last post with the story tomorrow, it's been a crazy week ;o;
I know all of these images seem super (and are) depressing. 😬 Don't worry guys, Blink has a happy ending and forever home at Quail Hollow Ranch. <3
PART ONE
THE WHOLE STORY
Blink was a stray born on the streets. Her parents taught her how to avoid capture with impressive ease, mainly by remaining hidden in the shadows and making smart moves. The civilians on the streets were only ever able to capture quick glances of something black with a curly tail, but the fleeting creature was always gone in the blink of an eye. There were frequent attempts to catch Blink and her family with humane traps, usually baited with extremely tempting food. The clever dogs that they were, they never fell for it.
Raised to be untrusting and aloof, Blink chose to remain close to only her parents. She had found time and time again that any attempts to befriend other creatures would inevitably become complicated and far too mentally demanding for her to maintain. Friendliness risked her freedom. And she found her freedom to be of the utmost importance to her.
As her parents began to age, her growing anxiety towards potential capture worsened. More often than not, both her mother and father found themselves feeling too tired or unwell at the end of each day to scavenge for food on their own, so Blink often had to provide for them. If she were ever to be captured, she wasn't sure how long they would last without her.
Unfortunately, this would not be a concern of Blink's for much longer. Both her mother and father passed in quick succession, leaving her completely alone for the very first time. They may have considered it mostly due to old age, but the truth was that their life on the streets had been very hard and unkind to their bodies.
She attempted to adapt to life on her own, but the loneliness was starting to get to her. Grief dulled her appetite and with it, her desire to keep moving. She began to slow down, and the sightings of her around town began to increase. The humans started to get more clever with their traps. Blink, however, was still wise and nimble enough to avoid them. But... She very quickly started to question if she even wanted to, anymore. She was tired. She was starting to get hungry. And for the first time, she was willing to admit to herself that she was scared. She wasn't sure if she could continue living like this. Or if she wanted to.
Her parents had raised her her entire life to cherish her freedom. To protect it at all costs. To never give it up. But this lonely life of struggle didn't feel free.
Tired of fighting to stay alive and hidden in the shadows, Blink surrendered herself to one of the live-traps she had fought so hard to stay out of for so very long. She jumped as the metal door snapped shut behind her, sealing her inside with the fate she had chosen for herself. There was no going back now. She curled up in the back of the metal wire trap and closed her eyes, praying desperately to her parents' souls that this life would be better than the one she had been living before.
Panel 1 & 2:
- Heart still racing, Blink peers through the bars and realizes... Nothing happens.
Panel 3:
- She continues staring out into the bustling street around her for hours. Finally, exhaustion wins over and she settles into the back of the trap, doing her best to find comfort in the corner of her cold metal cage.
Panel 4:
- She does her best to stay awake and alert, but darkness slowly closes in as sleep wins over.
Panel 5:
- Though she has, at this point in her life, never personally experienced the true beauty and wildness of nature - the fields, rivers, hills, or forests - she somehow finds her way to them in her sweetest dreams of freedom and warm sunshine.
