Event overview:
We've noticed a number of dog ‘thefts’ in our discord so we've decided to provide a creative and appropriate outlet for folks to steal dogs! No dogs will actually be stolen during this event, just to participate in the competitions and then returned home. You retain ownership of the dogs you enter in this event.
At the beginning of this event you select two of your dogs (or club dogs if you don’t have any Carolina Shepherds) to enter. Daily competitions are hosted, and everyone gets to choose one dog to steal from the list of entered dogs here that they think fits the theme to get clues. You also get one clue if one of your dogs is stolen. Be careful picking out a dog to steal though, because if a dog is stolen too many times in one day they will become exhausted and their performance will suffer. You can turn in your clues for prizes and draw or write about your dog(s) participating in the event or another player's dog(s) to earn additional prizes. You may enter your dogs from April 25th to May 1st and the competition portion of the event will run from May 2nd to May 23rd.
How to play:
First, choose two of your dogs to enter for the event. If you do not have any Carolina Shepherds or if you only have one, check out our adopts or the pound to get a dog, or use our club dogs. Dogs must be health tested to participate in this event. Read more about health testing and get your dogs health tested here.
While you can choose to enter only one dog initially, we discourage this as you will have less chances for other folks to steal your dog, so you will get less clues! If you enter a dog or join the event after May 2nd please send taikunfoo a message with a link to your comment so they can add your dog(s) to the list.
Fill out the below form before May 2nd with the two dogs you'd like entered in the event. They must be dogs you own or club dogs. To check what title(s) your dogs have please visit the digital archive here. To learn more about competition titles please visit the competition page here. Please note that club dogs do not have any competition titles. As competitions will be running at the same time as this event it's likely that your dog(s) will earn additional competition titles. Please send taikunfoo a message so they can update your dog’s information in the dogs to steal list.
Look at the FAQ post here if you have questions or need examples about filling out the forms. If you have any questions not covered there or in the event FAQs please send taikunfoo a message or ask in the ask-admin channel of our discord.
Please write out the title(s) your dog has, ie “AC - Agility Champion” instead of “AC” to help folks who aren’t as familiar with the titles!

Once the event begins on May 2nd, daily competitions will be posted until May 23rd. Daily competitions for this event are broken into two categories: Official Competitions and Fun Competitions.
Official Competitions are dog shows or events hosted by the Blue Ridge Club. They follow the traditional competition structure where a dog’s traits and titles are applied to their score. Clues are awarded based on the dog’s placement, ranging from 10 clues for first place to 1 clue for last place, in decreasing order. Ie 2nd place will get 9 clues, 3rd place will get 8 clues, etc. If more than 10 dogs are entered, placements 10/11/12/etc. will receive 1 clue.
Fun Competitions are judged by students in the local 4H club. The Blue Ridge Club has partnered with the 4H club to teach about dog care, behavior, training, shows, and different jobs dogs can do. At the end of the course each student gets to host a dog show and judge the dogs presented to them. The students can be very creative with how they judge their shows, leading to some fun themes! The students also pick out bonuses and penalties which vary based on the theme proposed by the student. Some examples of possible bonuses and penalties include color, markings, physical characteristics like coat/ear/tail type and/or size, titles, and traits. Be sure to think carefully about what the student is looking for as you look over the list of dogs to steal as the bonuses and penalties are known only to the student until they judge their show. Clues will be awarded based on the judgment of the student from 1-5 (determined randomly). If the dog you enter meets the bonus requirements, you will gain the specified number of extra clues from the prompt, and if the dog you enter is penalized, you will lose the specified number of clues from the prompt. How strict or lax these bonuses and penalties are varies on the student. With bonuses and penalties the maximum number of clues you can get is 10, and the minimum number of clues you can get is 1. Bonuses and penalties will be revealed in the day’s results post - you won’t know them in advance so be sure to carefully think about what they are asking for!
Once per day you may choose someone's dog to steal that you think best fits the daily competition. You may not steal your own dogs and be careful to not not choose a dog that 3 other people have chosen! A dog that competes too many times in a single day will become exhausted and not do their best, halving the number of clues they earn (minimum of 1 clue). For example, if four people choose the same dog to participate on the same day, all four people receive half clues (ie if you rolled 6 clues, you would receive 3 as the dog is exhausted and didn't perform as well).
Note: due to time zones and folks having a life, work, and studies that do not involve being on the computer 24/7, we have chosen to have the penalty apply to everyone that chooses the dog for the day, not just the fourth or later person. We don't want to penalize folks for having other things going on, or reward folks who are in the ‘right’ time zone to post immediately after the new day's competition is released. That being said, we do allow you to edit your post before that day's results are posted to switch out a dog if they have been entered too many times that day. If a dog was exhausted they get a good night of sleep and are ready to participate as normal for the new day's events. Their exhaustion only applies to the round where they were entered too many times and does not carry over to other competition rounds.
At the end of the day we will post the results of the previous day's competition, current clue totals, and the new day’s prompt. Please wait for this post before posting the next day's entry - if you post before the staff have revealed the prompt, only your first post will be counted to the previous day's event and the second post will be skipped.
