What is an ARPG?

I've seen the term a lot on here recently and don't really understand what it is. Could someone give me a run-down?

ARPG stands for Art Roleplay Game. These are community-based games where users create original characters—usually animals, mythical creatures, or humanoids—and develop them through art, writing, and roleplay. Characters are often designed specifically for the ARPG and put up for adoption; they can typically be obtained by completing prompts (like drawing or writing challenges), entering raffles, or participating in special in-game events.

Players usually earn points or in-game currency by creating content featuring their characters, completing prompts, or interacting with others. These activities are often themed to fit the world—like dog shows for a canine ARPG, patrols for a cat-based one, or expeditions for mythical creatures.

Many ARPGs feature their own lore, worldbuilding, and progression systems—kind of like a blend between a creative writing group and a video game, but powered by user-generated content. It’s a really fun way to improve your art or writing, connect with a community, and build unique stories in a shared universe! You can find ARPGs on both the Oekaki and User-Made Adoptable boards.
