Notes
- As a reminder, character ages 25+ (25-28 for the friend group).
- If you would like your character to be the one behind the sabotaging of the Summer Festival, let me know via PM! (The mystery regarding the disappearances are another matter).
- 200 words per character as a minimum (although I totally get writer's block, so occasionally a little less is okay).
- Do not only interact with the characters that are your character's potential love interest(s), there's more to the roleplay than that!

Hadley Keegan - The Driver

Postby Consulting_Angel » Sun Apr 13, 2025 12:04 pm

Image
Hadley Keegan | 25 | Male | The Driver
Pronouns: He/Him
Sexuality: Bisexual

Personality: Hadley is something of a dreamer and a lover of travel - and is hardly surprising that he was the first of the friend group to learn to drive. He is a bright, friendly soul that tries to see the good in others, even if they are unfriendly towards him. He's a dedicated, hard worker as well, and likes his work as a writer for a magazine that publishes both print and online articles - but sometimes wonders if there's perhaps more he could be doing, or if it's what he's 'destined' to do. Even when he's not meant to be working, he'll often still write down ideas, quotes and opinions that he can use for an article. Sometimes he feels a bit lost but is reluctant to ask anyone for guidance, not wanting to rely on someone or feel like he owes them something, but is more than willing to help out his friends - and driving them around for their vacations is his favourite way of contributing. Hadley has a lot to work on to trust someone else romantically after he was recently cheated on by his now-ex girlfriend - something that has also put his mood in a bit of a downer. Perhaps one day something will reignite his spark and he'll start to have a positive outlook once again.

Bio/History: The oldest of three siblings, and a family that lived just above the poverty line, Hadley always knew that he wanted to try and make a better life for himself and his family. Both of his parents worked minimum wage jobs and always tried to make the effort to ensure their kids had all their necessities and more, while hiding their true social status. It wasn't easy, but they also encouraged their kids to strive for whatever they wanted to do in life - although hints were usually made for more 'desirable' careers that would be high paying, even if they were unable to actually afford to send any of them to college/university without incurring student loans.

Growing up, Hadley found an interest in writing - he was editor of his school newspaper, and often wrote his own articles and did his own research - he wasn't very outspoken as a person, but through writing, he could be uninterrupted as he wrote what he wanted to say about almost anything he wanted. This didn't really make him particularly popular, but he did not care, and enjoyed his friendships with those also part of the school newspapers and writing clubs - although has lost contact with them over the years. Encouraged by his advisor, Hadley applied for multiple writing scholarships and grants, so that he could go to college to study Journalism - efforts that paid off very well for himself, as he received full-ride scholarships and grants that would get him through all four years. He'd still have to get a part-time job, but that was fortunately flexible enough for him to still enjoy his time at college.

In his first year, he was assigned to live in an apartment with four other first year students, who would all become his closest friends - a little surprising to him, because he thought he'd be closer with the students in his own classes. Though Hadley would often find himself writing or subconsciously doing some form of research for his next assignment or personal project, he'd always make time to hang out with the others, and bring home 'spare' drinks and pastries from the cafΓ© he worked 12 hours a week at. In his third year, he started learning to drive, at first buying a cheap little thing that would get him to his internship and back - as well as any short day trips the group ended up going on - before getting his current car after graduation and being employed for a couple of months.

After graduating, Hadley received a job offer from a travel magazine that he'd interned at for a while during his studies. An extremely rare opportunity, especially as it was well paying, particularly for a fresh graduate, and there was just no reason to think too much about it. Though with it, he discovered his love for travelling, and also bought himself his current car, something a little old, but much more reliable and easier to take on longer trips and travels. There's just... something Hadley feels like is missing, and he's really not sure what.
When the car broke down just by Tidecrest Coast, he initially insisted that the other members of the group get themselves a taxi or a bus or anything back home, and he'd wait for his car to be fixed. He is grateful that they chose to stay with him, even though it'd be a couple of weeks. Hadley is more reluctant to spend much time around town, more concerned for his car and wanting to go back home, but maybe there's a story he could pick up on...

Morgan Uzcatia - The Troublemaker

Postby Consulting_Angel » Mon Apr 14, 2025 4:41 pm

Image
Morgan Uzcatia | 27 | Female | The Troublemaker
Pronouns: She/Her
Sexuality: Lesbian

Personality: Confident, boastful and proud, Morgan considers herself leader of the pack in almost any situation - helped by the fact that she's often flanked by at least two or three members of an 'entourage' (ie people that suck up to her). She's not particularly friendly towards others, especially if they're not part of her crew, and even more especially if they don't recognise or if they even outright reject her position of being a well-known athlete with several awards and trophies in swimming, track and roller derby. She tends to lash out if her pride takes a hit, and is not afraid to fight dirty. Her troublemaking typically extends to spreading gossip and rumours, and rollerskating through the streets with her crew, disturbing the locals and tourists with loud music, laughing and shouting. When she's not on her high horse (which is... not often), Morgan does secretly have a more friendly side to her that wishes for genuine friends, and especially has a kind, gentle heart towards animals. For those that may grow close to, she will be very protective and loyal, and particularly likes to secretly be affectionate.

Bio/History: Morgan was born to be a star. At least, that's what she was consistently told by her parents, both of whom were fairly well-decorated athletes themselves, now working marketing jobs. She was always an athletic child, though she didn't always have quite the ego she currently does. She started swimming lessons before school most days, and then track after school a few times, with roller skating on the other days she wasn't in track. Even on the weekends, she could typically be found at the pool or the skating rink for a couple of hours. It wasn't until she was old enough to start entering competitions that things started to change. At first, it was the school competitions, where she'd prove herself on the track and swim teams and win consistently - and roller derby outside of school. She would be modest and humble to start with, until her parents, especially her mother, told her that "You should act like the winner you are." and "You're better than the rest of them now."
Perhaps it was a little too intensive for one person, but eventually, Morgan would take on her parents' words of... encouragement? She started boasting her 'champion' status, how only 'real winners' were on her side, and she would not be beaten - especially as she went on to win Regional and National competitions. And then... Tragic Backstory.

At 22, she was meant to be competing in a qualifier for the Olympics for the 100m sprint. Not the first time she'd left Tidecrest Coast for more than a day, but it would be the last. While attending, both of her parents were in a car collision - a freak accident involving a truck and a couple of other cars. She heard the news just before she was meant to compete, and still did so anyway, in the hopes of making it to the Olympics. Morgan just missed out, by half a second. Devastated, she managed to return home and sort out her parents' affairs and funerals, and wasn't seen for several weeks. She would claim she never competed, because she was so thrown by her parents' deaths, rather than admit she lost out. Since then, she's never left Tidecrest Coast for more than a day, but does still compete locally, sometimes regionally - and, of course, win - to prove that she 'still has it'.

Nowadays, Morgan and her entourage typically skate around the town, where they cause a bit of trouble. Spreading gossip and rumours that aren't always untrue, playing music a little too loud and have been known to put soap in the fountain overnight, resulting in a tremendous amount of bubbles the next day once a year. She's never gotten in much trouble for any of this, mainly because of her athlete status and most townspeople, particularly those that are older, still feel sorry for her, having known her parents very well.

Nicole "Nic" Beauchamp | 26 | Female | The Fifth Wheel
Pronouns: She/Her
Sexuality: Demisexual Lesbian
Appearance:
Nic is 5'7 and 232 lbs, with a rectangular body shape and light skin. She has medium-length brown hair styled in a messy wolf cut that she did herself. She has a somewhat elfin looking oval face, with upturned, deep set, green eyes and a small upturned nose. The only makeup she wears is dark often smudged eye shadow, giving her eyes a bit of a raccoon look to them. She almost exclusively wears a variety of loose fitting graphic t-shirts, most of which were bought at gift shops and have gimmicky slogans printed on them, cargo shorts with a carabiner that holds her keys and a rotating display of souvenir keychains, and socks with sandals.

Personality:
On the surface, Nic comes off as someone very easy-going and just happy to be here. A little absent minded perhaps, with a tendency for daydreaming and getting sidetracked, but eager to contribute to every conversation, even if some of her advice and ideas are... questionable in practicality. She has an affinity for hanging out in shops and chatting with strangers, and often ends up helping them with various tasks. Lost phones, lost pets... Oh, and that one time she accidentally helped someone break into an apartment that they claimed to have been locked out of.

She's usually up for just about anything her friends want to do on their trips, with the only thing she insists on being that they stop at as many roadside attractions as possible. She has an anglerfish plushie named Angel and a blog that's just photos of Angel gaping at various things on her travels, trying on merchandise, and meeting up with other toys. It doesn't have a lot of subscribers, but it's Nic's pride and joy and she will shamelessly advertise it to anyone she speaks to.

In reality, Nic has no idea what she's doing here. Not only has she yet to figure out what she wants to do in life, but even hanging out with her friends feels like a balancing act. She can't shake the feeling that the only reason they're friends is because she happened to be assigned to the same student housing, and that while everyone else clicked or naturally grew closer, she just got automatically included by proximity.

It doesn't help that she feels inadequate in comparison to them, and is pretty sure that she needs them more than they need her- not that she would ever admit that. She doesn't admit a lot actually, afraid that if everyone knew what a mess she was they'd stop putting up with her, and has become quite adept at dodging the truth or even outright lying about almost anything, from how she feels to her current life situation.

Bio/History:
Growing up, Nic was an only child to parents who- well, didn't exactly have high expectations, but expectations she failed to meet nevertheless. They weren't particularly strict, but a vague aura of disappointment would follow every report card and parent-teacher conference. No matter how hard Nic tried to "apply herself" and live up to the potential her teachers saw in her, she always seemed to end up with her head in the clouds, missing deadlines and dozing off while studying. She attended summer school, neglecting hobbies and what few friends she had to work on raising her GPA before graduation. Her hard work paid off- at least in the sense that she was accepted into one of the colleges her parents had picked out.

Glad to finally be out of high school, and excited for a new chapter in her life out from under her parents' roof and looks of disapproval, the future seemed bright. And then the novelty wore off. Nic spent her freshman year with her major undeclared, having worked so long just trying to get in to college without having put any thought into what career she wanted to pursue. All of the same problems that plagued her performance in high school had followed her, only worsened without the supervision of her parents and teachers. She struggled to get to her classes on time or at all and short breaks from studying or writing essays somehow ballooned into hours of taking 'am i gay?' quizzes and watching deep sea documentaries.

Her roommates were her only lifeline during all of this, providing structure when it came to doing things around the apartment and inviting her along when they would go places. Afraid of losing them like she lost her friends in high school, Nic always made sure she was free when they were free, hiding just how badly her academics were suffering so they wouldn't think worse of her. Before her last semester, she told them she was going to take some gap years to focus on herself, but that she would be in the area for a while and could still hang out. In actuality, Nic had dropped out of college, overwhelmed and dreading the thought of another year, deciding that the liberal arts degree just wasn't worth it.

Her parents were predictably upset, if not surprised, and set her up with an allowance to discourage her from couch surfing on the condition that she find a job. For years now she's bounced from one job to the next, making good impressions in her interviews and starting off strong before her work performance declines, then getting either fired or quitting to go on a trip with her friends. She'd become reliant on both her ability to get hired fairly easily and her parents' money to keep her afloat. Until while on their latest vacation when she got a call from her parents, letting her know that they were cutting her off and that it was time to stop riding around the country and get serious.

Feeling that telling her friends any of this is absolutely not an option, Nic has spent every moment since then trying very hard to distract herself from internally panicking. When Hadley's car broke down, and the mechanic told them it would be a couple weeks until it was fixed, Nic was secretly relieved to be stranded. Even better when it turns out that there is an upcoming festival to occupy her mind. To her, with it's kitschy shops and friendly people that know nothing about her, the town of Tidecrest Coast is like a daydream, one that she doesn't want to wake up from.

At 25, Thea feels like she barely knows herself. Growing up, her friend group was preselected by her mother and father. Playdates a front for business meetings, get togethers a disguise for closing deals. The 'friends' she maintained, comparable to watchdogs. She had no siblings to confide in, and made the mistake of trusting her friends frequently. It wasn't until a vacation to the upper hills of Tidecrest, when she had tried to convince her friend Gemma to walk into the neighboring town to grab a snack from the convenience store. Gemma, who Thea was quite sure was her closest friend at the time, had called Thea's mother almost immediately. Both girls were picked up and brought back into Tidecrest before they had even left the neighborhood they were staying in.

After that, Thea resorted to solo escape attempts, for fear of being betrayed. She had never tried to make sense of why her family was adamant that she stay, their reasoning always for the interest of their family. Any attempts to persuade them, was met with the assumption that she was betraying her parents. After the incident with Gemma, she hoped pretending like she did not want to leave would help her parents forget her attempts to leave Tidecrest. She had held out hope for university. She worked relentlessly at school, and even got involved with local events. She hoped her extracurriculars combined with nearly perfect grades and an excellent letter of recommendation would be a sure ticket out of Tidecrest. It was bitter, when her father was the one to break the news. She had been rejected from all colleges except one, the local community college in Tidecrest.

So Thea started school, reluctantly. The same friend group she had been placed into following suit. Many of them having aspirations to take over family business'. Thea has no desire to replace her father. It was instilled into her at a very young age, that this desire to leave Tidecrest was not part of the image her family wanted to portray to their constituents. Despite her attempts at getting involved in Tidecrest in highschool, it still felt futile. She knew, that the town whispered about her, and her escape attempts. That she would never change. She had many more after Gemma, and after highschool. She stole her mothers car only to get pulled over right before the county line. She had even tried to get hired at a neighboring towns fishery, hoping the boat would pick her up in Tidecrest, before it sailed for lobster season. She was caught every time.

It was only through her art that she found any reprieve. Thea spent a lot of her childhood painting landscapes she had never seen. For practice, she would sit at the pier and sketch people as they passed. She was sure at this point every person in Tidecrest was featured in her sketchbook. At the very least, she felt lucky to have something to fill up her time that didn't require her to put on a façade in front of others.

Despite her desire for leaving Tidecrest, and the towns knowledge of her attempts, she would never be caught talking about it with others. For all intents and purposes, Thea is nearly picture perfect. There is never a hair out of place, nor a outfit not preplanned. She smiles in every photo, and waves to babies in strollers. Her family perfected her image through years of discipline, and she conceals nearly every emotion with ease. She had decided after Gemma, that there was not a single person in Tidecrest she could trust, not even her family. She portrays herself as the Mayor's daughter willingly, in hopes that one day its enough to trick people as she leaves.

Mikaela Rivers | 25 | Female | The Provider
Pronouns: she/them
Sexuality: straight

Personality:Mikaela is a bubbly character, with lots of energy and a love for yapping to her friends. Her warm-hearted and compassionate nature has naturally made her the care-giver of the friend group, with her ability to plan and take control of a situation. Mikaela is sweet and genuine, although her honesty doesn't always bode well. She's has a dry sense of humor that isn't always understood by those around her. She's soft-spoken and because of her emphatic nature she finds it easy to understand and relate to those around her.

Bio/History: Mikaela was raised as an only child, due to this she found her childhood to be quite lonely and boring, never truely finding a space where she would fit in.

Once the above characters are finished, I'll probably start the roleplay if there's no other joiners - though I'll keep it open for new characters.

That's alright, there's no rush.
I'm thinking of having the roleplay start a couple of days into the group being stranded in Tidecrest, so they can get right into interacting with other townspeople and the preparations for the Summer Festival.
