what other image sites do people use, in the meantime? i'd appreciate a reply asap as i have people waiting on me, tyy !!

We have a few sites that we block due to their content, so this might be a site like that. I suggest using Imgur since they're free and we don't have any blocks on the site.

i've been using imgbb for a while with no problems, but i've had a few recommendations for imgur, so i'll try that - thank you !!

Of course : ). We're constantly updating our filters, though I myself don't know each site on it. Also might be that imgbb itself changed its terms recently, which is a thing that I've seen happening more often.

For imgur? If you're using imgur, make sure youre using the right image link the correct one will have https://i.imgur.com at the front, not https://imgur.com
If you click "copy link" it'll give you the imgur.com one, not the i.imgur.com. For that, you can right click the image and select "copy image link", it should look like this in the end
Code: Select all

Hello! So I've started coding storage threads and what not, however I've run into an issue I didn't think I'd have..?

I use CSDark as my theme and was coding on that. Posted the post and everything looked perfect! However, I switched to (literally) every other CS theme to see how it looked on a lighter background and it breaks the code?? Like, the spacing of everything gets all messed up. When I edit the post and hit preview it looks normal, but viewing it live it's all messed up.

How it's supposed to look:

How it looks on lighter themes...

unfortunately the "preview" box is in fact slightly larger than the live post (at least on all the other themes), so the only way to make sure it looks correct is to post it and then submit the edits every time you change something, to make sure the live version looks correct. it has always been like that for all of the other themes and i have complained about it every single time i've coded a thread over the years lol

i was unaware that the dark theme seems to be different though, my best guess as to why it works correctly on the dark theme is just that it's the newest theme and when making it they must have adjusted the live post size to be larger, the same size as the preview. you can even see the difference in regular text posts -- if you view this post on a light theme and then the dark theme, you'll notice that text wraps around to the next line at different words
edit to add: i would guess this is because the preview screen (on all themes) + dark theme live post do not have a boarder around them. live posts on the light themes have a boarder, thus making the actual post smaller

my only advice would be to try fixing it so that it works on the light themes, and then switching to dark to see if it still works there too. however there will definitely be some cases of things simply not being compatible across all themes, if the post size is different. not much that can be done about that (unless someone can convince CS to make all of the post sizes and preview boxes the same size to get rid of these issues lol). it's similar to how a lot of coding just will not work across all devices and operating systems, personally i just prioritize making it work for whoever is going to be using the coding (unless they request otherwise)

hey, so just for a little bit more clarification on the qna - i believe anything up to 600px width fits on the majority of mobile devices. mine is quite thin & after some testing it seems to work with all under 600 (not usually 700 like pc standard). obviously won't apply to all but mine is on the thinner side so it should apply to most !!

I've been going for like, 5 hours now, oh man Im loosing it:
Image

So that white line? It should be going in between the text boxes and the image on the right. It will slot in between the two images, but not the text box and I have no clue why. Send help I'm going nuts. Here's my current code for that bit:
Code: Select all

Yes some of it is redundant, I don't know why but everything goes nuts when you do it any other way...

Edit: Thank you to @kivr & fireflii (fireflii) for helping me solve this!

This is generally correct, thought I would like to add a informal caviar with some stats to back it up. To get things to fit nice and snug for other people to see rather than self identification, it just depends on the resolution of devices they are using. For instance: The screen resolution for a IPhone 5 is different to the screen resolution of a IPhone X.

The unfortunate side effect of different screen resolutions is that by equity percentiles, no matter your resolution of a signature code, it can always look different on anyone else's screen, especially if it utilises [ l e f t ] column coding. I am of a firm belief that if it looks like it settles nicely for you, it doesn't need to do anything else.

Totally made doing the coding for Digitally Distinct difficult to do considering I started most of it on mobile and had to do corrections on computer; which was counterproductive because then it didn't sit well on mobile. *sigh*

It's a shame I haven't done coding analysis for so long, because previously I would have been able to explain this a bit more.

You're correct with preview. Preview has slightly more pixels across than a initial post, regardless of resolution. A good rule of thumb is to implement a 1 inch wiggle room that people do when they're sewing items, except with pixels.

RE: Dark themes... I have a funny feeling that the sidebanner of the old themes are smaller, compared to the newer themes.

For instance:
Image Image
in contrast to:
Image

I don't think I have had any problem comparing years of using Halloween vs CSDullGreen. Those are light vs dark themes in contrast, hence why I am using them as examples. I am curious to compare mobile mode and business mode.

I have a funny feeling that the new galaxy theme, for example; has been pivoted off what we see in the code, as this is it's normal size if you find it's url. Traditionally working on darker themes when making signatures previously and had no issues with comparing to lighter themes. I think the coding was within pixels of each other between themes, but working. So the new themes having different coding imagery such as these images is what I believe is the case of influence.

TL;DR
I just think that the newer themes side banners are a influence into how the code sits for your signatures.
Image
Image
Also these are pretty great PNG's. I never realised they were transparent until now. It makes sense.

I also wonder if the coding behind the themes have changed over the years with the new themes, so that could be it too. It's why I am somewhat annoyed that I don't remember the data behind it like I used to, cause I would be able to have read the coding of the webpage to explain why.

If that is not it because they are just overlay images, I would then argue it is the person's individual zoom on the page. Not everyone is at 100% zoom. And the browser they use as well.
I am on mobile.
