[CSKC] How To Play

Postby thelabradorr » Wed Feb 26, 2025 4:56 am

1. What is DARPG?

DARPG stands for Dog Art Roleplaying Game. It’s a creative, community-driven game where participants design, raise, and roleplay with fictional dogs through art and storytelling. Think of it as a virtual dog-raising experience, where you can create your own kennel, design unique dogs, and enter them into shows, competitions, and events.

Here’s what makes DARPG special:

- 🐾 Create Your Own Kennel: Players build fictional kennels where they "breed," train, and show their dogs.

- 🎨 Artwork/Writing-Based Gameplay: Dogs exist through art/writing—whether drawn/written by you, commissioned, or using templates. Each dog typically has a reference sheet with details like breed, name, and personality.

- 🐶 Diverse Activities: From conformation shows (like the ones on TV) to agility trials, herding events, sled races, and even storytelling or roleplaying, there’s something for everyone.

- ✍️ Flexible Creativity: You don’t have to be an artist! Many players write stories, roleplay, or commission others to draw their dogs.

- 🌐 Community-Driven: Originally popularized on platforms like DeviantArt, the community has spread to sites like Toyhouse and even Discord servers, fostering a network of dog-loving creatives.

In short, DARPG is a mix of virtual pet simulation, creative art, and collaborative roleplay—all focused on dogs. You set the rules, shape your kennel’s legacy, and have fun along the way! 🐕✨

"CSKC is here to foster community, host shows, and celebrate our members, but you don’t need to be part of CSKC to enjoy DARPG."

2. How to Join

Joining CSKC is simple! All you need to do is post on our Co-Op Archive. Membership is automatically approved, and once you’re in, you’ll have access to shows, resources, and a network of fellow dog enthusiasts.

3. Creating Your Kennel

Ready to take the plunge and start your own kennel? Here’s how:

A “kennel” in DARPG is a fictional organization run by you (and possibly your original characters) where you raise, show, and work with virtual dogs. Kennels can be simple or complex—it’s all up to you.

Think of your kennel as your brand in the DARPG world. Answering these questions will help define its style and purpose:

What’s my kennel’s name?
— Examples: Silverwood Kennels, Blue Sky Ranch, Red Oak Estates
— Bonus Tip: Add words like “Kennels,” “Ranch,” “Estate,” or “Club” for clarity.

What breeds or types of dogs will I raise?
— Are you focusing on show dogs, working breeds, or mixed breeds?
— Example Focuses: Sighthounds, Sled Dogs, Herding Breeds, Rare Breeds
— Don't feel obligated to stick to one breed or group! You can have whatever breeds you want!

What is my kennel’s location? (optional but adds flavor)
— Maybe it’s in snowy Alaska or the sunny Australian Outback. The location can inspire the kinds of dogs you raise.

What’s my kennel’s purpose?
— Will you focus on conformation shows, sports (like agility or sledding), or just producing beautiful dogs?

4. Setting Your Prefix / Suffix

This helps identify dogs bred by your kennel.

Prefix goes at the start:

Example: Blue Sky’s Rising Sun

Suffix goes at the end:

Example: Rising Sun of Blue Sky

Tip: Stick to either a prefix or a suffix, not both.

Etiquette Note: Never put your kennel’s prefix or suffix on a dog you didn’t breed, even if you own it. Respecting breeder credit is a key part of the community.

5. Creating Your Kennel Rules

Even fictional dogs need some ground rules! Some things to consider:

Breeding Rules:

- How many litters per dog?

- What age can dogs start/stop breeding?
Dogs 2+ are usually considered for potential pairings!

- Are you open to outside stud services?

Adoption/Sales Rules:

- Can people adopt dogs from your kennel?

- Can they breed the dogs or must they be "pet-only"?

- Do you require credit for designs or specific naming conventions?

Roleplay Rules (if applicable):

- Are your dogs open for roleplay?

- Are there specific plots or events they can join?

6. Designing Your First Dog

Time to bring your first dog to life!

Choosing a Breed:
You can pick real breeds, extinct breeds, or community-created breeds (as long as they’re approved for realism standards if you plan to show them in CSKC events). Some user-created breeds have closed registries, meaning you’ll need to adopt or buy an existing dog instead of designing your own—always check the breed’s guidelines.

Designing Your Dog:
Your kennel isn’t complete without its first residents! You can:

- Draw them yourself.

-Use free-to-use line art.

- Adopt pre-made designs from other users.

For each dog, create a profile that includes:

Registered Show Name

Call Name (nickname)

Breed

Gender/Sex

Age

Height/Weight

Color/Markings

Pedigree (if available)

Sport/Work Disciplines

Designer & Breeder Credit

We recommend looking up the breed’s standard if you’re aiming for realism. While DARPG is flexible, CSKC focuses on maintaining accurate breed representations, especially for conformation shows.

Posting Your Dog:
Once your reference is complete, post it in your Co-Op Archive, a member of staff will message you if there are any adjustments to be made to the design!

7. What’s Next?

Now that you’ve got a kennel and some dogs, the world of DARPG is wide open! Here’s what you can dive into next:

Join Our Discord:
The CSKC Discord is where members chat, share tips, post dog designs, and advertise shows.

- Enter Shows
- Health Testing
- Explore Working Events & Sports
- Breed, Trade, and Expand

Welcome to CSKC! Whether you’re here to draw, roleplay, or just enjoy the world of dogs, we’re excited to have you. Build your dream kennel, create stories, and most importantly—have fun!
