People are donating as novelty right now to see what the bot does. Yes some people donate but not nearly enough to keep up, or else we would not have run out. Most players with valuables translatable to 100s of dollars in premium currency don't just toss them in the pound when they quit. they offsite trade. There are no players with lists quitting every day putting them in the pound or else running out of VR would not be happening.

I know for a fact they are completely out of vr pets which is the issue at hand.
The point of the running out was because there was an issue with the way the pound was sorting out pets, which led to this thread and the one that it diverted from. People are always going to trade pets away. And as rarities change and other people on the site delete pets pets that are already in there will change rarities, and on top of that, pets from within that pool will circle back in. Yes, they’re out of VR, but not R, or OMSR, or EUC, or any of the other higher rarity pets, and the entire point of the discussion is how to fix that, not to say that the pound will NEVER have rares no matter how long it restocks for. That’s a wild claim. So clearly you are missing the specific reason the pound had an error, and why closing for a time will at the very least put the problem off until the pound becomes tenable again. You ALSO seem to be forgetting that many MANY older pets are now much rarer than they used to be. Pets that used to be common are now literally extremely uncommon with how the rarity system changed. So no. It’s not impossible that the pound will get new rares and VRs and putting the pound on temporary hold until botting and improper algorithms can be sorted can help fix things.
So many of my pets were given to me by dear friends, and by other wonderful generous people! Thank you!
Greenie, 2/23/15-2/5/20My sweetest little baby boy, I will love you forever. Goodnight, little man.If you cancel trades YOU SENT without explanation as to what you didn't like about my end I will cancel all future trades you send. It's immensely discourteous, especially when you are the one who asked for the trade in the first place. I will always explain my reasoning if I cancel a trade. If you can't be bothered to do the same, don't trade with me.

I realize they overdid the Vrs and they’d have to cut back/ redistribute odds anyway, but I do not think people will donate a significant quantity of very rares on their own, not enough for daily openings. We could sit around for years before that happens. Most valuable pets are from banned accounts, and they are not draining banned accounts.
And waiting till already donated pets turn very rare over time could also take years. It’s a slow process.

support + voted for closing the pound temporarily while a solution is decided upon. i don't mind euc and below pounds at all, but i think it could use a break while Nick and others work behind the scenes/while the community spitballs potential solutions. ETA - lil rascal mentioned a temporary closure to address the lag and potential script/botting issues as well as what i mentioned and i support this too 100%. there's a lot that could be tinkered with in that time and it all seems to be a net positive imo
removing the option to delete pets was a suggestion i liked from another one of the threads related to this. i don't think many people use it anyway, but even a small quantity of pets being redirected to the pound instead of being lost forever is better than nothing. i also agree that draining the pets from banned accounts would be a big help

i have only been a user since oct 2024, so my opinion may differ vastly from the older users of this site, but i LOVE the pound! i would be so sad if it went away. i think for newer users it's a way to just see and get a lot of cool looking pets. for those of us who don't have anywhere close to every pet on the site, it's amazing to see such a variety of them in the pound and to have a chance at getting something really cool or off the WL! it's one of the main draws of the site to me, tbh! the rarity of the pets inside the pound doesn't really matter to me because CS is still novel and a lot of fun to explore and just see the difference in all the pets, and if the pound shut down, that really fun aspect of the site would be gone and i would feel super disheartened.

please note! i play CS to collect pets i personally think are cool looking! i don't have interest in completing sets of pets or hoarding them, but if you see a pet i have that you are hoarding/looking for, feel free to send me a trade for it!

I don’t think this post is saying completely disband the pound! Staff have also said that the pound will probably never be disbanded or changed to extremes. I totally agree with what you’re saying though, it would be upsetting to see the pound leave for even a short amount of time. However, to be the devil’s advocate, I do support this post.
I think it’s so incredibly hard for new users to get any kind of rare pets whether a dream pet or for trading up. Without any very rares/less rares in general in the pound a lot of people will have a harder time trying to achieve any goals that include those rares if that makes sense?
I think that what they are currently doing to try and flood in more rare pets is a really good solution for the long term. I do think there are some adjustments that could be made, but I am not very knowledgeable in the subject so I honestly can’t make a decision on this poll. I commend the current staff and moderators for doing what they can to turn a bad situation into a better one that also induced some interesting discussions! (:

Pets need to be moved from banned accounts to the pound and that is really the only way to fix this issue besides a complete overhaul of the system that would most likely require pet generation. Individual user donations will sustain a week’s worth of pound openings unless every rich user feels like draining their account for no discernible profit.

The most recent pound openings feel more like how pound openings used to be with pet rarities. It’s only really been in the last few years that it’s been heavy on rare+ pets. It used to be mostly an opportunity to get a cool or missed more common pet with a very very small chance of a rare+.
Personally I can’t see the benefit to closing the pound unless it is to investigate the lag and possible bot issues. I would be in support of working on those problems but not a closure just to try to build a stockpile of valuable pets again.
I do support having a longer cool-down period or making it so that you can’t adopt from two pounds in a row. I would also support cutting down the number of pound openings in a week as it seems excessive with the opening frequency lately when it used to only be 4-8 times a week.
I agree that CS is hard for players these days unless they have valuable off site accounts but I don’t think that the pound is the solution. Even when it was churning out a higher proportion of rare+ it was having no effect on the inflation issues and even without the potential bot issues the chances of a newbie beating an experienced player to adopt a valuable pet from the pound is very low. If the concern is with helping new players I think it would be better to work on something like a welcome pack and/or encourage more people to gift to new players. What we really need to improve enjoying CS collecting overall is more rereleases to get more valuable pets in circulation and stimulate the economy. That would benefit everyone.

hiyaaa, popping in to mark the thread & explain my opinion. for context, i'm """new""" in the sense that while i've had an account for a long time, i've only properly started to understand & enjoy collecting about a month ago. i also don't really do dressups so my opinion is quite biased against the l&f, so take it w/ a grain of salt
i can see the value & agree with of a lot of the points here and in the pound rarity thread, but everything just makes me more convinced that a rareless pound is the happiest compromise. i know it's winning anyway, but not by too much, so.
@ "nothing should change, there's no need to restock the pound with rares"
it's fair to say we shouldn't be looking at the pound as a rare dispenser, but we can't ignore that a significant amount of people do want to see it that way: particularly veteran players who are only really missing rarer pets and struggle to trade for them, as well as newer players who not only struggle to get the pets they want, but also to get anything that can help them trade for it. there's always gifting and free raffles, but the pound has a special charm. it's fun in the way dragoncave is. and if we have a rareless pound for some time, it'll be a chance for users to appreciate some pretty pets that might get overlooked due to their rarity, and new players can still enjoy the free stuff, and focus on collecting based on what species or aesthetic they like (at least that's smth i find really fun and smth that seems to be at the core of cs culture!)
@ "the pound should be closed temporarily in favour of a string of lost & founds"
guys, but the pound is fun :(( i'm sorry, i know a lot of you are probably missing items (esp since a lot more items aren't free compared to pets), but in practice, i find the l&f quite boring. if you're not there for the opening, it'll be full of just about the same items every time, and stay open for a frustratingly long time because nobody is thrilled to grab the sideburns or the tiny speck of coal. the pound empties quickly, that's a sign that people are excited about it, right? i think virtually everyone on cs is here to collect pets, and then out of those there's only a fraction that actively collects items. probably it's veteran players who alr have pets that are more likely collect items, while newer players would be more likely to be interested in getting more pets, no? (i could be wrong though, feel free to change my mind!) but if that's the case, don't you think it's better to appeal to the newer players than the veterans? since those who want to will get a chance to collect items anyway, nobody's saying to do away w/ the l&f. (sorry this feels aggressive/emotionally charged, that's not the intent bahaha this is just a fun lil pet game ^^ but please y'all i speak from the heart, i can't handle endless pages of "pink icing heart" :pleading: )
for those who would rather close the pound and have l&fs, can you share why? i feel like i usually see "lets close it rather than have it stay the same" but not "let's close it rather than have it rareless", so i wanna know if i'm missing smth :')))

Well I think the L&F could finish faster AND be more fun if people were allowed to take 3 items every 3 hours instead!
