History:
Tempest was born during one of the fiercest hurricanes the tribe had ever seen. The storm raged for days, tearing apart the coastline and sending waves crashing onto the shores. His father, Cyclone, had been one of the bravest warriors of the tribe. On the night of Tempest’s birth, Cyclone had rushed into the storm to save another cat, only to be claimed by the unforgiving sea. Tempest’s birth was seen as both a blessing and a curse by the tribe—a new life in the midst of destruction, but at the cost of a hero.

His mother, Whisper, became a shell of herself after Cyclone’s death. She cared for Tempest, but her heart was no longer in it. Tempest grew up feeling the weight of the storm that had taken his father and the emptiness left by his mother’s grief. The tribe pitied him but didn’t know how to reach him, so he grew up learning to fight both the forces of nature and the emotional turbulence within himself.

As he grew older, Tempest threw himself into his training, determined to make his father proud even though Cyclone was no longer there to witness his growth. His size and strength set him apart from the other apprentices, and he soon became known for his fierce determination. Yet, beneath his tough exterior, Tempest carried a deep-rooted sadness, a sense that the storm that had shaped his life still raged within him.

His rise to power wasn’t easy. When the previous captain, Star that Shines on Midnight Sea (Midnight), grew old and weak, the tribe became divided over who would lead them next. Some believed that Midnight’s own son would take over, while others rallied behind Tempest, who had proven himself time and time again through his bravery and loyalty to the tribe. The conflict nearly tore the tribe apart. In a battle for leadership, Tempest fought Midnight’s son, winning the fight but suffering deep wounds, both physical and emotional.

Upon becoming captain, Tempest swore to lead the tribe with the same fierce protectiveness his father had shown. However, the storm inside him has never truly calmed. Tempest is known for his stoic demeanor, but those close to him know that he wrestles with his past every day. He carries the weight of his father’s sacrifice, his mother’s broken heart, and the tribe’s expectations on his broad shoulders. Despite his struggles, Tempest is a respected and feared leader, a cat who will do whatever it takes to protect his tribe—even if it means facing down the storms both outside and within.

on the surface.
── with a sharp tongue and a piercing glare, jaws is the very picture of a commander. his no-nonsense attitude helps the tribe stay organised, and keeps younger cats and mischief makers well away from him. while he's grown out of the directionless anger of his youth, he still remains an irritable guy, and his patience is very limited when it comes to dealing with problems that could have been well avoided.
── for a cat with a rather small stature, he manages an impressive air of importance. though he often struggles to put complex thoughts into words, he sure knows how to use a powerful silence when speaking. besides, with his job, there’s no need for eloquence; his duty is to bark battle orders, not weave sweet diplomatic tales.
── his golden trait is his apparent calm in a state of crisis. when things start falling apart, he’s the one to spring into action, to start telling wayward tribemates what to do. it’s not at all that he's too cold and calculating to be shocked, but that his natural reaction to panic is to immediately grab control over whatever he possibly can. he doesn’t always make good decisions in the heat of the moment, but at least he can certainly be counted on to step up and make them.

on the inside.
── not everybody knows this, but jaws has a very intense competitive and playful side to him! he usually won't be one to suggest something be made into a competition ─ and almost never a game ─ but if it such a thing starts up, he can’t resist partaking in the fun. he wants to win! he can win!!!
── he’s no use at processing his emotions. yes, he’s sad sometimes, but No, he does Not want to talk about it. his attitude isn’t “of course i’m ok, i’m always ok”, it’s “i’m not ok, but that’s irrelevant as long as i can physically carry out my duties. there is no reason to talk about it”. this approach will take a toll on him
── he’s extremely devoted to the tribe. he is a better strategist than fighter, but he will not hesitate to jump straight into danger to help a tribemate. hence his scars. he takes it quite hard when cats die in battle, and feels responsible when things go wrong, even if he knows logically didn't have anything to do with it. he's a harsh mentor and authority figure, as he wants to inspire a spirit of strength, urgency, and resilience in the tribe, so that they are capable of surviving whatever threat comes their way.

childhood.
── born into a militaristic family that prided themselves on their strength, hence the aggressive sounding names. jaws was the runt of the litter. it took him some time to catch up to the others, so he was babied a bit, which he utterly hated.

adolescence.
── thanks to the urge to prove himself to be just as strong as his brothers, and to honour the name his parents gave him, he took his duties more seriously than most apprentices, often staying up very late to practice his skills.
── came out as a tom in his late apprenticeship. before then, he just had this strong sense that something was wrong but he couldn’t tell what, and that frustrated him to no end. he kinda generally didn’t like being perceived very much, which unfortunately led to a lot of grumpiness on his end. he thought it was an "everyone else" issue rather than a "him" issue. then everything fell into place, and, a little guilty about the needless anger, he started to mellow out a bit.
── jaws loved roughhousing with his brothers. he always struggled when it came to physically overpowering them, but, determined to win, he learned to figured out how to use quick thinking and strategy to beat them in a fight. growing up, the three of them devised all kinds of different games and competitions, and jaws had a great time hashing out tactics that could help him win each one.

early adulthood.
── his brother tusk died suddenly, died young, in a battle he wasn't prepared for. in the same battle, snarl was severely injured, needing long monitoring in the surgeon's den before he somehow pulled through. jaws, ever close to his littermates, was devastated. he became adamant that this tragedy didn't need to happen, and fixated on the importance of sticking to the plan and keeping the tribe strong. the then-gunner took note of his determination and tactical mind, and recommended him as the next one.

mid adulthood.

Ah, I love him already! Approved! I also sent that shark video to my spouse and best friend because that was the best thing I could’ve watched this morning. I wouldn’t mind playing either one of his brothers or a parent, do you have a preference for either?

My goals for today are to get Tempest’s form created and work on the tribe map. I had an old one from 2016, but I think it got eaten when Tinypic went out of business oop.

His living brother has more built-in plot potential ─ it would be cool to see your take on how his near-death experience, loss of his brother, and extended confinement to the medicine den in early sailorhood influenced his character. Plus, Jaws was always closer with his siblings than his parents, so it'd be nice to have that established strong connection. Feel free to change the placeholder names, or just choose the one you prefer ^^

edit!! @lacke just messaged me saying they'd be interested in playing the father, so that slot's taken. As for the mother, there's no clear plans as of yet, but might be best to wait a sec and see. She'll either be open to claim & have an established relationship w/ lacke's character that y'all can figure out, or sentenced to hunt with the tribe of arcadia :') I'll get back to you as soon as I know what's up! description: whisper is a somewhat small molly, with exceptionally feathery long fur. she's pure white, with a pink nose and her ears have a slight pink tint to them. she has dull, golden yellow eyes that seem to portray a much more mature cat. due to her long fur, herbs, sand, seaweed, pretty much anything can get caught within, sometimes without her even noticing.

personality: some cats claim that whisper has two contrasting sides to her personality - one lighthearted and carefree, the other firm and resolute. in a way, they're not entirely wrong. when she isn't tending to the injured or sick, whisper is warm and approachable, often seen sharing laughter and engaging in friendly conversations. she carries a deep well of empathy, always striving to uplift those around her. however, when duty calls, she seamlessly shifts into a focused, no-nonsense healer, ensuring that every cat in her care receives the attention they need.

despite her role as a surgeon, whisper has not always been unwavering in her faith. she beleives in the tribe of arcadia and their guidance, but she questions whether everything they decree is the absolute truth. at times, she wonders if their will is as infallible as others claim, or if there is more to the world than their wisdom alone. even so, she remains dedicated to her tribe, wanting her fellow tribe mates to feel supported not only through her healing, but also through her friendship. to her, faith is not just about blind trust - its about hope, choice and the strength to do what is right.

scent: she typically just smells like a pleasant bundle of herbs, sometimes with a slight variation, depending on what herbs are caught in her coat.

history: whisper had never been the daughter her father wanted. from the moment she was old enough to walk, he had tried to shape her into a sailor. strength, discipline, and victory - that is what mattered. that was what brought honor to the family. while her sister, moth of night's embrace, soaked in his stories of blood and battle, whisper remained silent, watching, listening... but never truly agreeing. she didn't crave the thrill of a fight, she didn't dream of proving herself with her claws. she wanted to heal. her father did not understand. at first, he dismissed it as a passing phase, something she would grow out of when the reality of war set in.

but, when she made her intentions clear - when she stepped forward and declared that she would become a surgeon, not a sailor - his patience snapped. "you waste your potential," he had growled, his eyes sharp with disappointment. "strength is what protects this tribe, not crushed leaves and whispered prayers." whisper had swallowed the lump in her throat and stood her ground. "healing protects them too." her father scoffed. "a sailor earns their place through battle. not by hiding in the surgeons den." the words stung, but whisper refused to let them sway her.

she trained under the surgeons, her paws learning to stitch wounds instead of causing them, to mend bones instead of breaking them. she learned the language of herbs, the rhythm of a heartbeat, the way fear and pain could be eased by a steady touch and a reassuring voice. but no matter how hard she worked, her feather never acknowledged her. he praised moth when she sparred, spoke of their ancestors' strength even. but when whisper returned from treating a cat near death, when she spent sleepless nights battling against infections, when she saved lives - he said nothing.

when her sister and father were confronting one another in the clearing, whisper could only sit and watch. when moth declared her hatred towards their father, whisper felt the world tilt beneath her paws. as moth stormed away, whisper glanced towards their father, searching for any sign of regret, of paint, of anything - but he wouldn't even look at her. without another moment of hesitation, whisper turned and raced after her sister, their relationship mending from that point forward.

it was only a few moons after whisper became the sole surgeon that tragedy struck - their mothers death. it had been sudden. a snake, coiled in the underbrush, striking faster than a breath. whisper had been there, had seen her mother collapse as venom coursed through her veins. she had done everything she was taught - cutting the wound, drawing out the poison, using every herb she knew - but none of it worked. her mothers breath grew shallow, her body trembled, and then... nothing. the moment her mother's body stilled, so did her father.

he hadn't wept, he hadn't yowled. he had only stared at whisper, his eyes empty of the pride and approval she had spent her entire life trying to earn. "you were supposed to save her," he had said, voice quiet - too quiet. the words struck deeper than claws. she had tried. she had begged the tribe of arcadia to intervene, had whispered prayers over her mothers still form long after the rest of the tribe accepted her passing. but the ancestors had done nothing. the stars had remained silent. her father had remained silent too, until his silence became something worse.

days passed, then moons, and with each sunrise, his grief hardened into something sharper. he no longer spoke her name. he refused to meet her eyes. if she entered a space, he would leave it. if she touched him to treat a wound, he flinched as if it burned. she had lost him.

in the moons that followed, whisper felt the weight of doubt settle like a stone in her chest. if the ancestors truly watched over them, why had they let her mother die? if they were meant to guide their kin, why did they let her father become a stranger? she still believed in the tribe of arcadia, how could she not, after everything she'd seen? but, she no longer believed that they held all the answers. so, she turned to what she could control. she threw herself into healing, not because of faith, not because of duty, but because it was the only thing she had left. she would be the warmth her father could no longer give. she would be the light where the ancestors had failed to shine.

and she would never, ever let another cat feel as helpless as she had the night her mother took her last breath.

description: bloom is somewhat of a sturdy cat, but not overly built. she stands somewhat tall, with a mostly white coat, a few muted patches of orange and black dapple her face and tail tip. she has a pink nose, and her eyes are an olive green. she has medium length fur, which somewhat obscure battle scars. her ears are rather shredded, but she wears the scars proudly!

personality: to most, bloom is rather quiet and reserved, but once she gets close to another cat (whether it be a friendship or relationship), they begin to see her true colors. she's rather sweet, and laughs quite a lot. she's also known to be rather fierce on the battlefield, not shying away from confrontation, despite her outwardly pretty appearance.

description: shark, in his prime, used to be large, sturdy tom. now, he's begun to grow thinner and lankier, much to his dismay. he dons a dark coat that's been bleached by the sun, as well as some graying around his muzzle, belly and feet. he is covered in battle scars, and will all so proudly recount each one, no matter how many times he's told the stories already. he's got dull blue eyes.

personality: once again, in his youth, cats wouldn't have DARED look at shark the wrong way. he was a go-getter, stick by the book kind of tom, one that wasn't afraid to stand up for what was right and needed to be done. however, this facade was lowered around his family, as he cherished them more than life itself. now, in his elder years, he's become more quiet, grumpy and reserved, albeit still very proud of his sons.

history: from the moment he opened his eyes, shark was raised in a world where strength was everything. his parents were hardened warriors, and their expectations were clear: their kits would grow into formidable sailors, unshakable in the face of adversity. shark, even as a kit, had a relentless nature. he never backed down, never whined, and never allowed himself to show weakness. playfighting with his denmates, he refused to submit, even against larger opponents. his parents admired his unyielding spirit and cultivated it in him, reinforcing the idea that survival belonged to those who refused to break. but despite his toughness, there were moments of warmth. when his siblings stumbled, he would nudge them back up, gruffly telling them to keep going. he was never one for long-winded reassurances, but his actions spoke for him. if a littermate was cold, he would push his warmth toward them without a word. if another kit was too scared to sleep, he'd stay awake beside them. his world was harsh, but within it, there was a still a quiet kind of care.

when shark began his training, he threw himself into it with a fire that burned brighter than most. he was not the biggest or strongest, but he was the most determined. no matter how many times he was knocked down, he got back up. he did not fight with brute force alone - but with an unshakeable will. he learned that endurance was just as much a weapon as claws and fangs, and he used it to his advantage. his mentors took notice. shark had little patience for hesitation or weakness, and he could be sharp tongued towards those who faltered. he believed that survival was earned, not given. yet, for all his severity, he was not heartless. he never mocked those who struggled, he simply pushed them harder. if he saw a fellow apprentice struggling, he did not pity them; he stood beside them and drilled them until they succeeded. strength, he believed, was something that could be built. while he was distant with most of his peers, those who earned his respect found a fierce protector in him. if he called you weak, it meant he believed you could be stronger. if he was hard on you, it meant he thought you were worth the effort. and, though he rarely showed it outright, those he cared for never truly stood alone.

it didn't take long after his sailor ceremony for him to gain a reputation as an unrelenting sailor. he never yielded, never broke, and never allowed himself to be outlasted. he fought in countless battles, his endurance carrying him through even the most grueling of fights. when he had his sons - jaws of ruthless crocodile, snarl of angry dog, and tusk of charging boar, he raised them as he had been raised. he was strict, expecting discipline and strength, but he was not without warmth. he demanded much from them, but when they succeeded, his pride was unmistakable. his love was not gentle, but it was undeniable. if jaws pushed himself past his limits, shark would stay awake through the night, watching over him as he recovered. if snarl felt the sting of failure, shark would not console him with soft words - he would train him until failure was no longer an option. tusk was the only one that could sometimes pull a rare chuckle from him, finding cracks in the hardened exterior he had built. yet, war does not spare even the strongest. tusk died too young, taken before his prime. snarl suffered a wound that would never truly heal. jaws was left carrying the weight of both loss and survival. shark had taught them to endure, to push forward, to be unyielding in the face of hardship - yet even that had not been enough to keep his family whole. for the first time in his life, he questioned whether strength alone was enough.

by the time shark stepped into the retiree role, his body bore the weight of every battle he had fought. his joints ached in the cold, his old wounds stiffened with age, and yet his spirit remained as fierce as ever. he had spent his life fighting - what was he supposed to do now? retirement has not sat well with him. he is restless, still waking at dawn out of habit, still watching the younger cats train with a critical eye. when he sees flaws in their form, he cannot help but correct them, his sharp tongue never dulled by age. he would grumbled about the foolishness of the young, but if an apprentice struggled, he would be the first to guide them - just as he had with his own sons. despite his gruffness, there is a softness in the way he carries himself now. he sits in the shard and listens to the younger ones boast, the ghost of a smile tugging at his face when their stories grow outrageous. he nudges food towards a struggling tribemate without a word. he never speaks of loss, but when alone at night, his eyes drift toward the stars, lingering a bit too long.

I can create a character for the brother then. Will probably snag the Snarl of Angry Dog name since that speaks to me, hehe.

The overall territory map is complete. I'm wanting to make another "zoomed in" map of the island where the camp is to have a better understanding of the layout, but that'll be a weekend project.
