Lucien "Luc" Lefevre | 24 | He/Him| Male | 2nd Year Spring Student| Homosexual| Tags: Theodore, Sirenn
Lucian glanced up as the door creaked open, his eyes meeting Sirenn’s tentative form. His quiet greeting caught him just as he was shifting his weight, about to stand. A small smile tugged at his lips. The other boy's hesitation was clear. He had always been a bit like this—shy, careful not to step on anyone's toes. Lucian could relate to that.

“Hey,” he replied with a casual tone, offering a reassuring nod. “Don’t worry about it. You’re not interrupting anything.” He gestured to the empty space beside him and Theodore, the quiet hum of their previous conversation fading into the background.

Theo's reaction was a little more… animated. Luc couldn't help but chuckle softly under his breath at his friend's surprised yelp. Theodore was always a bit wrapped up in his own world, and while it was endearing, Lucian sometimes had to give him a gentle nudge back into reality. Still, he didn’t mind. It felt right having someone who was so present, so... sincere. Like he really *saw* people.

His eyes flicked back to Sirenn, then to Theodore, offering a soft shrug. “The room’s not too full. You don’t need to stand in the doorway.”

The warmth of the space, of Theo’s scattered drawings, and the quiet hum of conversation always felt inviting, even when it was just the two of them. Lucian wasn’t one to dwell on the "what ifs," but it was nice when people seemed to naturally find their place among them. Even Sirenn.

Lila Whitmore|20|She/Her|Female| Winter 1st Year |Demisexual|Tags:Mildred, Horace
Lila glanced over her shoulder, surprised to hear her name spoken by someone she didn’t immediately recognize. She’d noticed the older woman—Mildred—before, mostly because the gentle hum of her presence seemed to quietly stand out amid the clamor of more boisterous students. But she hadn’t expected a greeting, especially not one so warm. The older woman was bundled up in a mint shawl that, despite the scorch marks and messy hair, made her seem both endearing and slightly out of place in the bustling dining hall.

Lila gave a soft, polite smile, offering a small nod. "Of course, Mildred. Please, sit with me." She motioned toward the seat across from her.

Then, she turned her attention to the newcomer, a tall young man with a friendly smile. Horace, he said his name was. "Thank you, Horace," she replied with a hint of curiosity. "I’m Lila, and yes, I’m still getting used to all of this." She let out a small laugh. "But I’m sure we’ll all get the hang of it eventually, right?" Her eyes flicked to Mildred for confirmation, though she wasn’t quite sure if the older woman shared the same optimism yet.

Lila helped herself to a generous spoonful of the stew, the steam curling up in front of her face like a welcome embrace. She gestured toward the empty seat next to her, inviting Horace to sit as well. "There’s no harm in sitting together. Sometimes it’s nice to have a little company." Her tone was light, casual, as she tried to ease the tension that seemed to hang in the air around Mildred. She could sense the uncertainty in the older woman’s eyes, but didn’t want to press. Everyone was still finding their way.

Kai Avery | 23 |He/Him| Male| Summer 2nd Year| Pansexual| Tags: open
Kai walked into the dining hall, his usual confident stride making him easy to spot among the crowd. The midday hustle had just begun to settle into a more relaxed rhythm, and the smell of food was starting to overpower the chatter. His sun-kissed skin and tousled blond hair caught the light, and he couldn’t help but grin as he took in the scene. He had already been through a morning of classes and practice, and now it was time to unwind for a bit.

The forest green and ocean blue of his track uniform stood out against the sea of robes and more formal attire, the colors a stark contrast to his golden skin. He grabbed a tray and surveyed the food options, his stomach already rumbling in anticipation.

“Stew, huh?” he muttered to himself with a raised eyebrow, eyeing the hearty pot. He couldn’t help but wonder how spicy it was—after all, he’d always had a bit of a competitive streak when it came to handling the heat. Without hesitation, he slid closer to the counter, a playful grin tugging at his lips as he decided that today was definitely a day for something bold.

Headmistress Isolde Hawke | 42 | She/Her| Female | Role: Headmistress of Featherwick |Bisexual | Tags: Clara, Peregrine
The knock on Isolde’s door was more forceful than she expected. She was sitting behind her desk, a stack of parchment before her—unfinished notes, some needing revisions. The morning had been filled with the usual demands: reports from the various heads of houses, follow-ups on student progress, and brief moments of reflection on the state of things at Featherwick.

She heard Clara’s quick steps outside the door, betraying a sense of urgency that was all too familiar. The Head of Summer was still settling into her role as an instructor, and though her passion for teaching radiated, Clara often got tangled in the whirlwind of everything else. Isolde couldn’t blame her—teaching at Featherwick was a monumental task, especially amid the unease that hung just beyond the school's walls.

“Come in, Clara,” Isolde called, her voice steady but warm, meant to offer her a moment of calm amidst the chaos.

The door creaked open, and Clara stood in the threshold, flushed with a mix of exertion and nervousness. Her dress was slightly askew, her red hair hastily pulled into a messy ponytail. Isolde could sense the slight panic in Clara’s eyes, though it was clear that her concern was more about her own perceived disorganization than anything else.

“You’re not late, Clara. Don’t worry. I imagine the start of the term has been keeping you on your toes,” Isolde said, a gentle smile playing at her lips. She gestured for Clara to sit, offering her a comforting space to gather her thoughts. “I trust your classes are going well so far, despite the... occasional hiccups?”

Before Clara could respond, another knock echoed through the office. Isolde looked up to see Peregrine standing in the doorway, his characteristic grin softening his sharp features. He held a tin of lavender shortbread in his hand—an offering that never failed to bring a bit of lightness to any room.

“Ah, Peregrine, come in,” Isolde said, motioning for him to enter. “Perfect timing as always. I was just catching up with Clara here.”

Peregrine’s presence always had a calming effect on Isolde. There was a certain steadiness to him, even amidst the chaos of the school year. She couldn’t help but appreciate how well he balanced his responsibilities, especially as the potions instructor.

She turned to Clara with a small, knowing smile. “I’m sure you’ve met Peregrine before. He’s quite the expert on keeping things interesting around here.” Her tone was light and playful, but there was genuine respect in her words. She trusted Peregrine implicitly—his ability to care for both his students and the faculty was invaluable.

With both Clara and Peregrine now present, Isolde felt the weight of the meeting beginning to settle over her. She took a breath, her thoughts gathering for the matters at hand.

“Shall we begin?” she asked, glancing between the two of them. Whatever awaited them, she knew they would face it together.

Theodore Medina | 23 | Male (He/Him) | 2nd Year Autumn | 4th Floor Rec Room | Tags: Lucien, Sirenn
The quiet peace of their conversation was so suddenly broken when someone else arrived, signalled by the sound of the door opening. Theo was very nearly quick to hide himself behind his notebook, but he lowered it again when he heard the quiet voice from the doorway. Oh, it was just Sirenn, one of the younger Second Years he had never really spoken to that much. Though, that primarily came from the fact that both of them were not that good at talking to people. And probably also due to the fact that Sirenn, being three years younger than him, was only 19 during their First Year. Watching Sirenn lingering in the doorway felt very awkward, as if they had been caught doing something.

Luckily, Luc spoke up first, inviting Sirenn inside. Letting them talk, Theo takes the time to gather up his things, shoving his notebook back into his bag and then quickly collecting the various pages he had left on the floor, all containing various little doodles of things. The reason Theo was picking them up was partially to avoid them being accidentally stood on, but also because he wasn't able to draw while talking to people. As he does this, he thinks about their quick conversation, about how Luc was so smart and knew exactly what to say to people. And... Well, they had been friends for a while, but it really only happened because of... Ugh, no, he didn't want to think about that right now. He had to keep himself positive. For the sake of his friends.

When Theo turns back to look at the two, he had an anxious smile on his face, doing his best to keep himself happy and focused on them. "Hi," Theo's greeting to Sirenn was soft. If his hands weren't full, he'd have probably given a small wave as well. "Uhm... Yeah. I- I wasn't doing anything important, anyway," of course he wasn't. He was in the quiet spot to keep his mind off of how bad his morning had been, and sure it did work. Mostly. Some of the drawings he had quickly hidden in his bag would've been hard to explain. Again, Theo reminded himself that he had to stay cheery, not wanting Luc or Sirenn to be worried about him.

Clara Wintergreen
32 | Female | Head of Summer
Bisexual | Single
Location: Head Mistress Office | Tags: Isolde & Peregrine
Glancing over at the sound of her name, Clara smiled brightly as she spotted Peregrine. They had been friends in school and it had been so nice to see a familiar face, starting a newer path in life this past few weeks.

“Is it that obvious?” She laughed softly in response to him saying she was on time, sheepishly raising her wrist with the black ink smudge to show that he was correct in his guess. As a student she had kept all important notes written on her arm as well as a planner she kept in her bag, and a planner she kept up on her dorm wall. Yet somehow she had a habit of still forgetting about things. She would have to ensure she set a wall calendar and a portable planner up. It may not have always kept her head on straight in the past, but it was better than nothing. Before she was able to say anything else she heard Isolde call for her to enter.

“You’re not late, Clara. Don’t worry. I imagine the start of the term has been keeping you on your toes,” Isolde said. “I trust your classes are going well so far, despite the... occasional hiccups?” Before Clara could reply Isolde had already moved on to greeting Peregrine, having noticed him next to her.

“My goodness, I must be predictable if both of you knew I was worried I’d be late.” Clara felt the warmth of her cheeks as they flushed with her embarrassment. She laughed quietly to herself as she stepped into the office, taking a moment to collect herself. “To answer your questions Isolde, yes, things are going splendid! The students and staff have been so welcoming. But I will get myself organized, that should solve the hiccups.” Clara glanced at Peregrine, a small smile playing on her lips. “And yes, Peregrine and I have met before. He was always good at keeping life interesting.”

"Thank you. I'm working on a song - it isn't finished yet. But when it's done, and when I sing it... something will happen. I'm not sure what. A song that can fix what's wrong, take what's broken and make it whole." He said, or more like sang. His voice is lovely Violet thought, slightly transfixed as if he had already woven a spell. That was a true talent indeed, he had a gift and that was obvious.

“You’re a Spring Student then?” She spoke a little louder this time, maybe he had spelled her with some confidence she wondered to herself. She nodded to herself, that had been a silly question of course he’s a spring student. “That’s a wonderful project. Music is healing in it’s own ways. A voice when one can not find their own. I think you’re right, your song will be something truly wonderful in what it can do and brings to others.”

There was a cramp in her fingers from how tightly she held her novel. Taking a moment to take a deep breath she forced herself to slightly relax. She was okay, she could talk to a stranger, she didn’t have to be afraid.

Lincoln Armstrong

His bowl of stew placed precariously on a tray next to his notebook he made his way over to an empty spot, next to what looked to be a first year student he had yet to speak to.

“Seat taken?” He asked, but without waiting for a reply plopped down. “Pardon my appearance, forgot the time and incantations aren’t really my forte. I’m Lincoln by the way, I don’t believe we’ve met?”

He only paused his flow of conversation to take a big mouthful of stew, delicious but unexpectedly hot. Leading him to cough into his arm, his eyes watering and shards of to scatter around him. Some first impression he was making, but Linc being Linc didn’t mind. Best to just be yourself. He looked around at the others and was delighted to spot Mildred, a first year that no one could miss with her age. He also noticed a few other students scattered around, all of different years.

Mildred Fong
1st Year Winter Student | 68 | She/her
Location: Cafeteria| Tags: Lila, Horace; Mentions: none

As Lila returned her smile, Mildred felt the tension in her shoulders release, if only a little. "Thank you, dear," she hummed, settling down in the chair beside her. Lila had a calming aura about her. Gradually, Mildred felt the anxiety of the morning fading away.

She hadn't yet picked up her spoon before another student approached them. He was so tall that the tiny old lady had to crane her neck to look up at him. As he went out of his way to give them a warm welcome, she marveled at what a courteous young man he must be. "Well, it's very nice to meet you, Horace. I'm Mildred!" she exclaimed. Her eyes met Lila's silver ones for a brief moment, and she wondered if the girl's rhetorical question was meant for her. "Oh-- oh yes, I'm sure we'll all be fine," Mildred chimed in, perhaps a little too quickly. Putting on a bright smile, she brushed a stray paper scrap off her shawl and looked away.

Turning back to Horace, Mildred pulled out the empty chair and patted it with a hand. "Now then, sit, sit!" she called, inviting him over. Unlike Lila's quiet gesture, hers was rather demanding. "Why, thank you for offering. I do have a few questions. I'd love to get to know the campus better, if there are any special places you really like? And what about the classes? Tutors to watch out for? Memorable assignments?" She babbled on happily, quite enjoying the company. Once you got her started, Mildred was a quite a Chatty Cathy. She only quieted down to spoon some stew in her mouth and savor its warmth.

Peregrine Corliss
Tutor of Potions | 32 | He/him
Location: Headmistress Office | Tags: Clara, Isolde; Mentions: Astoria, Warren

Seeing Clara made him feel like a student again, just like when they had walked these same halls years ago. Now they could pick up right where they left off. He couldn’t help beaming at the sight of her.

"Relax, you have nothing to worry about," he said with a low laugh. "You’re here, aren’t you?" He could make out the meeting time written on her wrist. Or well, he could guess what that smudge was. She hadn’t changed a bit since they were students. Just as forgetful, just as earnest. He had always admired her sincerity.

Peregrine let her enter first, waiting patiently beyond the doorway while the Headmistress spoke with her. Clara could be the first one at the meeting, for once. He chuckled lightly to himself. Perhaps that was a bit mean. He rapped once on the door to announce himself, then strode past the threshold.

"Thank you, Isolde," Peregrine said as he entered. He offered the tin to the Headmistress, a quiet smile on his face. "I brought refreshments for the meeting– lavender shortbread. I thought they would be calming after… recent events." He shook his head, expression darkening slightly.

Clara’s flustered words brought him back to a happier present. He was glad she was settling in so well at her new position. Peregrine let himself smile back at her as her eyes met his. "Ah, well. You know me. Always chasing after some new idea or other," he sighed, a sheepish smile on his face, while he scratched at the back of his neck. With Clara by his side in the Headmistress’ Office, Peregrine was reminded of a time long ago, when he had roped her into trying a new potion recipe. He had needed help maintaining the wards while he tried out new techniques with fire. Several explosions later, they had ended up sitting right in this very office. At least this time they were here as faculty!

With Isolde’s next question, the time for pleasantries was over. "Yes, I’m ready to begin," Peregrine responded, his expression turning solemn with the change in Isolde’s tone. He could feel the weight of her words. "I passed Astoria and Warren on the way here. She was helping a student, so she may be a tad late. I’m sure they’ll be here shortly."

Rohan Wilder
23 | Male | Spring Student
Location: 1st Floor Rec Room
Tagged: Violet
It was clear to him how the other student seemed to relax a bit more, gain a bit more confidence. He nodded in response. "How could you tell?" Rohan asked, with a light laugh. It was perhaps obvious that he was a Spring student, given how he played his music. Even without magic, he always knew that music was something he wanted to be involved with. Magic would just end up enhancing that... letting him see a different world. He beamed as the other student spoke, talking about how music was healing in its own way, and then saying how she thought - or knew - that his song really would do something wonderful. In the back of his mind, he could hear the voice of his mentor back home - 'Don't come on too strong' - advice that he'd try to heed and then immediately forget. But he'd try not to this time.

"Thank you... I agree. Music brings people together. Moves those that didn't know they could be moved. The song's not finished though..." Rohan glanced away, looking down at his notebook. No. Nowhere near finished. There was no rush to finish it, but he knew that it would be on his mind to do so until it was. But for now... Rohan stood up, sliding off the bar stool, and then carefully placing his guitar down, leaning it against the wall. He crossed the room, until he was stood in front of the other student - a few feet away so there was still a good distance between them.
"I'm Rohan. Do... you play music as well?" he introduced himself. He knew that she wasn't another Spring student, otherwise he would have surely remembered her from the Spring Track classes, so he was curious if perhaps she also played an instrument as a separate thing.

Astoria Okoro
37 | Female | Head of Spring
Location: Gardens -> Isolde's Office
Tagged: Serena, Warren, Isolde,
Peregrine, Clara
She raised an eyebrow as Serena asked about focusing her magic and feeling an affinity for the plant magic she'd been studying. It wasn't the most usual question, and as much as Astoria would want to encourage another Spellcaster that specialised in plant magic - and also make it a point to Warren how her students were clearly thriving in her classes and under her tutelage - she also didn't want there to be a risk to other subjects and areas of magic to be neglected. "You are only a second year - don't feel as though you have to focus on just one. Ensure you give both phytokinesis and sound magic equal attention. As well as your other classes, of course. I don't want you to be falling behind. You could start considering it for your final project and dissertation when you do get to third year, however, but again, not something to stress about... just yet." Astoria explained.

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Warren was starting to make his way towards the meeting, so she knew that she should start making a move too. "Ah - now, I do have to go to this meeting. But if you'd like to discuss this some more, if we don't get time today, then come and meet me ten, fifteen minutes before the Track Class tomorrow and we can continue. Gives you a bit more time to think about it." Astoria suggested, with a warm smile. Then, she hurried off after Warren, soon arriving as Isolde's office with him.
Astoria knocked at the door, entering after a few moments.
"Hello, we made it!" she said, greeting the room, and then moving towards the group that was forming for the meeting. Clara, the new Head of Summer was there, a very bright young woman and, naturally, one of Featherwick's own graduates - just like most, if not all, of the faculty. And then Peregrine, perhaps one of the only tutors she worked closely with, especially regarding plants that were used for Potions, and more recently the toxic Ogrebane that she was pretty sure she saw Warren eyeing up earlier - and he had, no doubt, a tin of refreshments for the meeting. If she hadn't been pre-occupied, she would have brought her own tin of refreshments... ah well.

Elias Knight
28 | Male | Magical Theory Tutor
Location: Office
Tagged: Paz
He listened attentively to Paz as she spoke. He hadn't been entirely sure what he'd be asked - something that was relatively easy, perhaps - but not something that could be... complicated. However, Elias was not going to wave away an opportunity to discuss and talk about magical theory, and certainly an area of the subject that he rarely got to talk about.
"Yes, it's... not quite clear on the limitations or uses - and how to access such magic and spells in various domains or elements. As you already know, I'm sure, magic has only been public knowledge for a relatively short time - a little over 100 years if I recall - so it's only really been since then that it's been studied so seriously. Before it was seemingly just a case of casting spells in secret with little regard to the actual research. Perhaps certain elements or atoms that make up elements are easier to control and manipulate with magic than others - that's certainly a suggestion I've read numerous times. Maybe there's certain domains that are just unstable when introduced to magic. I'd be curious to know what your hypothesis is." Elias said, taking a few moments to think before continuing.

"I will add - there's a reason Featherwick calls it phytokinesis rather than geomancy, with the sole focus being plants rather than earth- or rock- based magic. But that's perhaps a debate to have with Astoria, not that she'd be too pleased to be questioned about her specialty." He laughed lightly at that, before clearing his throat - for the actual answers Paz was looking for perhaps.
"Ah - try Dorian Lamont's 'The Secret Domains (of Magic)'. That tackles more theoretical magic possibilities, certainly to greater extents for actual geomancy, electrokinesis and atmokinesis. As far as anyone's aware, there's not been a successful spell or magical means to cast a spell for the latter two certainly, but Lamont does write about possibly combining two types of elemental spells to achieve this. Although, personally, I could only see a horrific accident should someone do that. The science he writes about it all though it interesting, however. What else... oh, Claudia Farraday's 'Advanced Magical Domains' may also be worth a read. She also has several articles in a number of Spellcaster journals. The library will have them archived, but the librarians tend to be quite finicky about who they give access to those journals unless it's for a university-specific project - though I can always send them a message that I've granted permission for such access. Now - was there anything else you wanted to ask?"

Lyra Damaris
22 | Female | Winter Student
Location: Quad -> Dorm -> Dining Hall
Tagged: Genn -> Linc, Lance
Lyra laughed as Genn admitted he'd also fallen asleep in the astronomy tower before. "It's just so comfortable, right?" she said. She'd quite surprised if there was anyone in Winter that hadn't done such a thing. Aside from the first years, of course, but they would soon enough, she was certain. She shrugged as he mentioned having wanted to go there for a quiet moment. "Well, if you do decide to go up there again, try not to fall asleep." Lyra joked, as they soon arrived at the dorm building. "Right! I'm heading up. See you around - enjoy your quiet moment." Lyra said, and she waved as she zipped off, running up the stairs to the third floor, where her dorm was.

Back in her dorm, Lyra went for a shower right away. There was no time for resting - not that she felt like she needed to anyway, given she'd just slept at least 12 hours - but she did take her time. There was no rush, after all. Afterwards, she dried herself off and got dressed, now wearing a white t-shirt and a long, flowy skirt, as well as a denim jacket. Then, she sat down to blow dry her hair, before tying a brightly coloured hair scarf around it. Now she was ready to get to the dining hall - there was still plenty of time to get lunch, and maybe she could spend the afternoon in one of the nearby towns. She'd have to try and get a few others to join her if she did decide to go - after all, it was much more fun to go out with others.

Soon enough, Lyra arrived at the dining hall. She hummed to herself as she looked around at what was being offered for lunch. Stew was the big thing, though there were plenty of other self-serve options. Why not. She approached for the stew, thanking the cook for the food, and also took a couple of ciabatta rolls, then walked to the tables, glancing around for a group to sit with. Where should she sit..? There were a few different groups of students, and although she'd love to flit between them all, she also didn't really want to be carrying a bowl of hot stew around the dining hall constantly. Eventually, she spotted Lincoln - another Winter student and one of her close friends - and another student that she didn't recognise. Lyra went over quickly. "Hiii! Mind if I join you guys?" she asked, brightly.

Serena Wallace- f- 20- Spring second year student- bi; Lila- SO- 3 siblings- Tags: Astoria, Warren

The dark reddish brown haired one hummed quietly a bit. Her eyes naturally found their way to Warren a moment. Tilting her head as she wondered what he was actually doing. He seemed to be checking out the plants, but maybe he was also waiting. She knew teachers and Heads of Tracks had meetings and such. Perhaps the two of them had a meeting to get to soon. Shaking her head, she turned her attention back to Astoria. She glanced at her a feet a moment…then shook her head. Humming quietly still, she looked up at the older woman then. She noticed how the other had raised an eyebrow at her question. She winced a bit, and looked down again. Feeling like maybe she’d asked a stupid question…or the wrong question.

She perked up, looking up again when the woman began to speak to her. She nodded as she looked at Astoria. She said “Okay, I’ll focus on both equally,” or as equal as she could, anyway. She might practice with phytokinesis more, without thinking about it. She then nodded as the other talked about final project and dissertation. She smiled as she said “Yes, m- I mean, Astoria.” She’d almost called her ma’am again…Shaking her head, she glanced to Warren again after a moment. Watching the man as he seemed to be moving off now. She tilted her head at this, then looked at Astoria as Astoria spoke again. Ah, so it really was a meeting, staff meeting pretty obviously. She nodded at the woman, and said “I…I’ll do that, I’ll come see you tomorrow if I don’t see you again today.”

Sirenn Wallace- m- 20- Summer Second year student- gay; Theodore- (SO)- Tags: Lucian, Theodore

The brown eyed and reddish brown haired one watched the other two males. He noticed how Theodore had yelped, and also hid himself behind his notebook. The other lowered his notebook after a bit though. Sirenn offered a small smile at him. Then shook his head, and looked at Lucian. He had a developing crush on Theodore, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t look at other guys too. Lucian was definitely an attractive guy. Pushing that from his mind, he smiled at Lucian and said “O…Okay.”

He moved to sit in the spot Lucian had indicated to him. He’d noticed how Lucian had chuckled when Theodore had yelped. He put that out of mind pretty fast, though. Now, he was focused on sitting down, and he noticed Theodore putting away his stuff. He tilted his head as he noticed this. He wanted to ask why he was putting his stuff away, but at the same time he didn’t want to pry. Instead, he looked to Lucian again. Nodding at him and saying “Yeah…I guess it’s not, there's only three of us here currently.”

He glanced around the recreation room for a moment. It was true, it definitely only seemed to be the three of them so far. Shaking his head, he turned his attention back to the others. Noticing Theodore’s anxious smile, he gave a gentle but shy smile of his own.

He said “H…Hi,” since the other had just said hi to him. He said “It’s okay if it actually was important,” but the other had said it wasn’t important. He didn’t know if the other was just…trying to be nice or something though. Not wanting to be writing or drawing, not wanting to make Sirenn think he was ignoring him.

Jessel Autumn- f- 24- Autumn third year student- pan demi; Kai- parents, siblings- Tags: Kai

The ginger haired girl blushed as her belly began to grumble…She quickly put the book away (either in her bag if they’re allowed to take books, or back on the shelf.) She could come back later. She could come back and read the book some more later. Right now, it seemed her belly was telling her she needed to eat. She shook her head at herself, and stood up then. She smoothed down her top, and headed towards the door(s). She headed from the library back to where the dining hall was at.

She smiled a bit as she hummed to herself. It was a song someone had used to sing, maybe her mom or dad when she’d been younger. It could have even been one of her grandmothers. Either way, she was humming a song she’d known from her childhood.

It brought to her mind all the pets she’d had in the past. She hadn’t had a pet since entering the Academy…but she’d had pets before that. Her family also currently had cats and two dogs. She’d had cats, dogs, rats…even a ferret at one point though only the one.

Her dogs had been Mayu and Lyric. Lyric was actually still with the family, so technically they had three dogs if one counted him. Her ears had been Zoro and Marseille. Her cats had been Blackie and more recently Stormy…before she’d entered the academy. Her family had four cats and the two dogs named Grace and Cashew. They also had two chinchillas. Anyhow, she entered the hall, got some stew, and saw Kai. Heading over to the male student, she asked “Could i…maybe sit here?” as she wanted to be polite.

Genn tilted his head as he heard her laugh, but knew she wasn’t being mean or anything. He nodded as he looked at her a moment. He smiled as he said “It really is comfortable.” He smiled a bit as he looked at her, then looked around a moment. He nodded when she told him to try not to fall asleep. If he did decide to go back there again anytime that day. However, he wasn’t going to go back there right now. There was the pressing need for filling his belly with whatever the dining hall was serving that day. Though he’d been managing to ignore his hunger. It hadn’t gotten that bad yet, at this point. He smiled as he said “I’ll make sure not to.” Then he also said “Why…thank you, I’ll probably just go up to my own room to have that quiet moment.”

That or he’d just have his quiet moment later that day. Shaking his head, he headed towards his room anyway. Once there, he walked inside and shut the door behind him. He decided to take a shower himself, why not, and when he was done he got dried and changed.

He sat on his bed once he’d finished getting changed. He was wearing a t shirt and some shorts, but they were longer shorts. He didn’t know the technical name for them, but they covered about three quarters of his legs. He also had socks and shoes on, of course.

Shaking his head, he sat there a moment but then sighed and stood. He really needed to go to the dining hall and eat something…He left his room, and headed for the dining hall. Humming a moment then falling silent as he looked around. He headed to get some stew, and thanked the cook or cooks. He then glanced around, and noticed Lincoln as well as a student he thought was named Lance. He then saw Lyra was also there. He wanted to join them…but didn’t want her to think he was following her. He stood there awkwardly…then gave a sigh. Shaking his head, he went over to the table next to theirs. He’d wanted to talk to Lincoln, get to know him more. Maybe another time…maybe he could try and catch him after lunch.

Lance West | 22 | Male | 1st Year Spring Student | Dining Hall | Tags: Lincoln, Lyra
Quite suddenly, he had been joined at his table by Lincoln. He seemed quite careless, in both manners and appearance. Still, he seemed quite friendly, and although he definitely wasn't on the Spring track, it might be nice to have friends from other tracks. "Hello there. I'm Lance, I'm in my first year of Spring. You must be... Winter, right?" He eats a bit more, and looks around where Lincoln does. "You know, I'm impressed that she's come here." he says, looking at Mildred. "Not in a rude way of course, I just mean that it's cool to see that no matter what age you are, you can get accepted into Featherwick. I feel like most of my classmates in Spring are around a similar sort of age to me." After he finishes talking, he continues eating what was left of his lunch. Even though he had nearly finished, he could always spare some more time here.

As he was talking to Lincoln and finishing his food, another student joins them. She seemed to be another Winter student, but not one he recognised. By the way she spoke, he guessed that she and Lincoln must've been friends, not too surprising for another Winter student, he supposed. From what he gathered, they must all be outgoing people, which wasn't too bad of a trait to have. "Oh! Hello there! Yeah, sure, you can sit with us. I'm Lance. And you are?"

Horace Crane | 25 | Male | 2nd Year Autumn Student | Dining Hall | Tags: Lila, Mildred
Very good, it would seem that his request to join them was accepted. He sits at their table, listening to them introducing themselves. "It's good to meet you, Lila and Mildred.". Ah, it would seem Mildred had some questions. Excellent, now he could show off his knowledge and experience under the guise of answering some friendly questions. "A whole list of questions hmm? Very well, I'll try and answer each to the best of my ability. Let me think... I like going to the gym and pool a lot. It's very relaxing after..." He pauses a moment to eat a mouthful of stew and choose his words carefully. "Classes, or other such things. It's a great school, this, but if you ever need to unwind, that's where I recommend going. Or if you just need a quiet moment, why there's a lot of quiet spots around this place where you won't be disturbed. Just ensure you keep track of the time, you don't want to be late to your next class." After answering the first one, he eats another mouthful of stew. "Oh the classes are great, each teacher seems to be quite into their own subject, so if there's any you're particularly fond of, you can always talk to them about it. Myself, I'm quite interested in ritual magic, but I'm sure you two will find a subject or two that you greatly enjoy. I can't say how the classes on the Winter track are, but I do quite enjoy the Autumn track classes. We focus on wind and water magic, each powerful in their own right, but combined? Well, they can be quite a force." He chuckles. "But I'm sure the Winter magic is quite powerful as well.". Now, for the big one... Tutors. "You know, I'd say you don't need to watch out for any of the tutors, provided you're on your best behaviour of course. As long as they see you working hard and showing kindness, they are all quite amicable, and if you wish, good to talk to." Another pause, another bite of food. Thank goodness he had nearly finished all her questions, though he had no doubt she would have more. Still, it was nice to just... talk. "And for your final question... Well, I had quite a memorable assignment somewhat near the end of my first year. Have you heard of magic battles? I wanted to improve my magical abilities via combat- friendly magical battles, of course. Warren - the Head of Autumn, seemed to be quite happy to help me with that. My assignment was to engage in friendly combat with him, and show off all the techniques I had learned. It was great fun, although I understand that many students prefer to stay away from magic battles, so it wasn't something I got to do often. I must say I'm impressed that he was allowed to assign me that." Now that he had finished answering her questions, he took this opportunity to eat as much as he could before he was inevitably bombarded with more.

Warren Archer | 47 | Male | Head Of Autumn | Gardens -> Isolde's Office | Tags: Isolde, Astoria, Clara, Peregrine
Once Astoria had finished talking to Serena, he heads to Isolde's Office with her. "Good afternoon all!" he greets the room, and joins the group with Astoria. "Our apologises for being late, we were just... preoccupied with a student in the garden." Noticing the tin of shortbread, he takes a bit of shortbread and eats it. "I see someone brought refreshments! Delicious as usual.". Deciding that he was perhaps in too good of a mood for what he expected this meeting to be about, he quickly changes his tone. "So, what did we miss?"

Paz Martinez||18||Female||Autumn 1st Year||Location: Elias' Office||Tagged: Elias

Paz's pen was a blur as Elias spoke, taking down his every word, and adding some of her own. "Very insightful," she remarked, "I'll be sure to check out those books, and I'd appreciate your help in accessing those journals as well. Regarding my hypothesis, it's fairly simple."

She folded the corner of her notebook over to mark her place, then dug in the bag slung over her shoulder for another, considerably more worn notebook. "I believe that magic is, essentially, the ability to impose one's own will onto reality, and that its limitations are self-imposed, fetters placed on it by spellcasters through their unconscious bias of what magic 'should' be. This is why the schools of magic are what they are: through a combination of social conditioning and internalized believe, we have convinced ourselves that this is what magic entails. Air and water are simple to control because we believe them to be so, anyone capable of fanning themselves with their hand is an aerokinetic. Phytokinesis, therefore, stems from our long agrarian history; we have spent millennia bending flora to our will through agriculture, it naturally follows we would be able to do so magically."

She paused for a moment. "As an aside, I firmly believe that phytokinesis is simply a sub-domain of geomancy, the physical processes involved in plant growth require too much knowledge of the earth and its composition for it to be otherwise. I will leave that until my initial hypothesis is proven, however. Back to my prior point, it is then fairly logical that certain spells would be considered more difficult. Rock and earth are generally viewed as immutable and unchanging, even in the context of things like buildings and sculpture. The study of electricity isn't much older than the study of magic itself, and the concept of weather as unpredictable and uncontrollable is baked into our very language. Developing spells for these domains, therefore, is not a question of combining the right spells, but simply accepting the fact that these spells are possible, and internalizing that fact in one's subconscious. Once that mental block is overcome, an infinite realm of possibilities reveals itself, from electricity, to weather, to perhaps even the laws of nature themselves!"

Paz punctuated the end of her lecture by snapping her book closed, her breathing slightly heavy. The look in her eyes was expectant, waiting for the professor's opinion.

Violet Armstrong
22 | Female | 1st Year Summer Student
Bisexual | Single
Location: 1st Floor Rec Room |Tags: Rohan
He took great care setting his things down and stepping towards her, Violet could see the love he held for his guitar in those little details. She was silently observing the other student, still a little spelled by his music. "I'm Rohan. Do you play music as well?" Rohan the Spring Student. She thought, a small smile beginning to appear as the trembles in her hands began to fade. The music question gave her pause. She rarely spoke about music with anyone outside of her family, forever a listener and never to be the performer. A twinge in her chest causing her to let out a soft sigh.

“Violet.” She said, letting herself get carried away in her own head. “I… um… I used to.” She looked downwards towards her shoes, biting the inside of her cheek as she pursued her lips. “I played the violin, music is a much easier form of expression.” She kept her gaze anywhere but at Rohan for a moment, collecting herself. Thinking about playing made the scars on her arm ache, a wound that felt like it never truly healed. She swallowed, feeling the muscles of her right arm beginning to spasm ever so slightly.

“I didn’t mean to interrupt your creative moment.” She looked back towards him apologetically, breathing through the ghost pain. “But it’s nice to meet you Rohan.” She gave him a full smile, eyes sparkling as she forced her mind to focus on the man in front of her. She was proud of herself and couldn’t wait to tell Lincoln that she was able to talk to someone without crying. It was the small victories after-all, perhaps she was even making a friend.

Lincoln Armstrong
25 | Male | 3rd Year Winter Student
Questioning | Single
Location: Cafeteria | Tags: Lance & Lyra
Mentions: Mildred & Genn

“Winter yes, I’m a third year.” He grinned in response. “It is really awesome that anyone of any age has the chance to always learn.” He nodded taking another bite of his stew. Mildred was truly an inspiration to anyone who saw her, maybe he could ask her for some studying tips? Another time of course. That is when Lyra walked over asking to join them, Linc stayed quiet a moment allowing Lance to introduce himself. In that time he finished his meal, pushing his tray slightly to the side. More shards of ice falling to the table and scattering around him, he was beginning to feel like a shedding dog. Maybe he could have cleaned himself up before rushing to get some food he thought to himself.

“Lyra my beautiful winter flower! How have you been?” His entire expression lit up in delight as he made eye contact with her, it was always good to see the friends he had made in his own track. He propped his chin onto his hand, placing his elbow onto the table, as he tried to subtly shake the rest of the melting ice out of his hair. His keen blue eyes taking another look around the room as he does, spotting Genn he believed, taking a seat at a table close to theirs. Genn’s eyes seemed to linger on Lincoln, causing him to pause before speaking up. “Genn was it?” He called out to him. “Care to join us? The more the merrier.” He offered him his brilliant smile. “Incantation gone wrong, but it was time for lunch and honestly I’m handsome enough to pull the look off.” He laughed, assuming the look had been about his appearance. He glanced back at the two sitting with him already. “Sit, sit Lyra. I was just becoming the best of friends with Lance here, that or I was probably starting to scare him off.”

Rohan Wilder
23 | Male | Spring Student
Location: 1st Floor Rec Room
Tagged: Violet
He noticed the pause that the other student - Violet, as he now knew her as - took when he'd asked her about music. Was it a sore spot? He felt a little guilty, he didn't want to cause any unpleasant memories or such, even though it was unintentional. He noticed that she didn't quite meet his gaze either, as she'd explained that she'd used to play the violin. He stopped himself from asking her why she stopped - that seemed a sensitive subject.
"Violin is beautiful. And yes... music is an easier form of expression. Although sometimes it's difficult to put everything into words." Rohan agreed. Perhaps he was just a perfectionist, though, but he always wanted his music to be just right before he shared it widely. The lyrics to be not quite too obvious, but still got their message across in a poetic way, and to make sure they flowed well. But when he did manage it... well, it was something he was deeply proud of and seemed to be enjoyable to those that listened to it.

"It's okay. I wouldn't have sat in here if I was expecting no one else to enter the room." Rohan said, with a slight shrug, and another warm smile as Violet had met his gaze again. "It's nice to meet you as well. I've not properly met many other students yet. Not outside of Spring, anyway." He added. And he wasn't quite friends with anyone just yet - so it seemed that may well change.
"I don't mind if you'd like to read in here. If you wouldn't mind my playing." Rohan added, gesturing into the room, not wanting Violet to feel as though she had to go and find somewhere else to read. He wouldn't play his guitar quite so much with someone else there, while he was working on his song, mainly focus on the lyrics, as to not be too disruptive, but he would on occasion to try out a series of chords.

Astoria Okoro

Tagged: Paz
"Of course." Elias replied - anything to help a student with their research, even if it was quite the unusual situation. He could tell that he'd asked something that Paz had, perhaps, been hoping to have been asked. He couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if all his students were this interested in Magical Theory, inspiring the next Spellcasters. He probably wouldn't get as much work done as he normally did.

He leaned forward resting his elbows on his desk, tenting his fingers, as Paz spoke, listening carefully to her hypothesis. He almost thought he'd have to interrupt, just to remind the student to take a breath occasionally, but then his mind went to thinking about the possibilities proposed. It was honestly a wonder why he hadn't considered any of that himself. Perhaps he had just accepted that the limits of magic was only what he had been taught and read about.
He leaned back in his chair for a few moments, before realising that there was silence between the two, Paz waiting expectantly for an answer.
"You know... I think you may well be onto something there. While we unfortunately know very little of what the old Spellcasters were fully capable of before magic became widely known, I wonder if perhaps the regulations that came in when it did also had something to do with it, so such spells have been lost to time."

Elias thought about it some more. "And it is still entirely possibly for new spells to be created - if difficult - but... well, it is almost certain that there are other domains of magic that have yet to be touched upon - or revisited, I suppose." his hand idly brushed against his chest, just above his heart, for a few moments.

Lyra Damaris
22 | Female | Winter Student
Location: Dining Hall

"I am just fabulous. Much better after sleeping in the astronomy tower." Lyra replied, brightly, as she slid onto a seat at the table. It had weirdly been a much better sleep than she typically had, so that was always a benefit. Though she was sure that the tutors would not be impressed if she spent every night in the astronomy tower. She raised an eyebrow as Lincoln tried to shake out what seemed to be melting ice from his hair. It seemed he had had an eventful morning.
Her attention was briefly drawn towards Genn, when Linc had called over to the older student. Lyra also waved at Genn. "Yeah, come on over!" she welcomed, and then back towards Linc when he'd explained that he'd had an incantation go wrong.
"Ahhh that explains why you're bedraggled," she teased, with a warm laugh, "you'd better not let Edward find out, otherwise I'm sure he'll admonish you for 'not studying seriously'." Lyra added, deepening her voice at the last part to mimic the Head of Winter's voice.

Then, she turned towards the first year that was also at the table, and had introduced himself as Lance. "I'm Lyra! Good to meet you, Lance." she introduced herself, brightly. "I promise we're not too scary. Anything you need to know about Featherwick, you can ask." She glanced around briefly, and then commented, "I can't believe anyone is wearing their uniform today. There's no classes! I love wearing my own clothes whenever I can."
