Plot:

The war had finally drawn to a close, and it was time to piece things back together. After four long years of bloodshed and battle, a peace treaty had finally been drafted and signed, ending the battles where they stood. The two greatest assets owned by both royal families were wagered; the future crown. In this agreement lay the entire future and well being of the kingdom, and both Kings saw it fit that their children be married. After all, what could possibly be a better way to ensure their peace? Merging the two kingdoms under the rule of their two only children was the only thing they could think of. In this way, the people would become one and all fighting would end.

At least, that was what they hoped for. Animosity and blame still harbored in the citizens's hearts. How could they possibly open and expand their borders to one another after the murder and war had ended just weeks before? This tragedy could not be forgiven so easily. And while the wedding was something to celebrate, the only heirs to both kingdoms being favored by their subjects, it was incredibly frustrating to make union with the enemy.

While the couple put on a brave face, it was evident that they were forced into the bonds of holy matrimony. How long could this possibly last? How could they rule a kingdom together? How could they possibly secure a future and raise posterity? Heavy is the head that wears the crown...

(Baelix has come up with this plot, so all laud goes to them - it's their brainchild and we are using it..

Poor Maevely seemed to turn a pale shade of white as she stood in front of her parents throne, silently listening to what they had to say. Her father was an easygoing man, someone who wasn’t flustered easily, but conflict seemed to have turned him into someone she almost didn’t recognize. He would do absolutely anything to resolve the war, anything to save lives. Well maybe this was his way. A pathetic one, at that..

Clearing her throat, she opened her mouth to protest but promptly closed it when she noticed her mother sending more of a warnings intimidating look. “B-But…. Dad…” Her voice trailed off when she realized that she wouldn’t be able to back out of this one. As a princess, she didn’t have a whole lot of power. Not at the moment, anyways. I don’t even know this man, never have I ever met him, anyways…

“You’ll do what’s best for our country, and what’s best for our people.” King Aranid’s voice was firm. Mae’s expression softened at the mention of their people. “Hostilities put aside, we don’t have much of a choice but to comply, and try our best to get along. The seaport is more important than we think, and we need to make it work. Our people are starved, and we’ve lost too many important people in the process of this war.”

Ailiyah, Mae’s mother, cleared her throat, in more of a polite gestured. “Your soon-to-be fiancé should probably be arriving rather soon, so please, go ready yourself…”

(Italics are emphasis, bold is thoughts)

The night before had been cold; cold as early snow had been threatened. Cold as wind ripped through the canvas of tents erected for an army of men on a mission for an uncaring king. Cold as fires spluttered out and mud splattered boots and hooves. Cold from the top of ones' head to the soles of ones feet. His breath steams in the air as he re-reads the ravens' message in the morning light - the bird had arrived with the wind and the cold from the hall of his father. He mutters a curse; a curse for his father and king. A curse on the other kingdoms' king and queen and people and this princess he is supposed to wed which is supposed to end this war that had stretched on and on and on --

The letter is let go of and it flutters into the coals only to briefly catch fire and then go out as ash. "You good?" Asks one of the few men whom he knows are loyal to him and not his father. Loyal for sweat and blood and pain and hunger --

Borrowed eyes stare at his companion, "I'm to wed." Is grunted in explanation, "tonight." And what a laugh it is! His father hadn't even summoned him home to tell him his life, even further, isnt his own. "Wars over if'n i wed this... princess."

The one inclines his chin, questioning and the twin speaks. "My brother asks if you intend to wed."

"Seems I must," is sighed, "Why is my life worth more than my people's? Worth more than yours?" He turns from the fire, "it'll take most of the day to make their Capitol, even this far south." And he's walking back to the tent he can never sleep in, back to where he has some clothes and his whetstone and food. He knows that he has to do this. Has to. He never wanted to go back to war, but if -when - he marries it means that he becomes king after three months. Then he could choose his own fate. Stop the blood letting and crop burning. Bring peace to his people and ... and to hers too.

"Rith -"

"Ready the horses." Is said, "ill not ride without an army into the bowels of their kingdom. "

---->>

Her kingdom is warm; like summer and hunting the forest. Warm like nights with fires which send sparks to become stars under the black sky. Warm like the hearth was when he was a child, when fingers were numbed from the snow and his cheeks rosy from the frost, laughter still staining his mouth. Warm like the forbidden kocau drink from his mothers' lands, forbidden after she'd died, snuck into his hands by his old nurse maid.

Warm like blood on his hands from cleaning a kill or killing a man.

The warmth makes the thick furs around his shoulders seem like too much. It makes him sweat under his armor and when he glances at his men he notes that they are still obeying the order to remain garbed in the weight of skins and metal. Their horses toss their head as they scent the water - and he detects the tang of salt when he breathes in. They have entered the Capitol, their army so large that not all of them can fit into the city. Formidable and imposing. Still, he's thankful that technically they are at peace, or at least at a standstill. There are innocents here, and he would rather there be peace with the innocents.

Still, it hurts his heart to see children scuttle inside of their parents' homes and beggars slink down alley ways. It hurts to see hooded, shadowed eyes glaring beligerantly at the mass of men who move closer and closer to the castle on white sands as one. It aches when mothers who have lost their sons clutch at their necklaces and hiss bitterly, spitting curses and death-wishes.

As if he had a choice.

Rith does not dismount the giant war horse - bred specifically in his fathers' kingdom for the monstrous sized men and the weight that accompanies them. Bred for the cold and the hot, poor food. Bred for distance and climbing and ---

A horn sounds at his left, and keen eyes dart about for treachery. For a trap. Nothing comes. Not yet. He sees hands tighten on weapons and he raises a hand to soothe his men. They are safe, for now.

Suddenly the doors to the palace, great things of glass and shell, swing slowly open. "This is it." Says his oldest friend, Jaquen, and his mouth is dry suddenly.

But he's doing this for them. Isn't he?

Re: roleplay with alpha 1x1

Mae remained quiet as she watched the hired servant reach for a hairbrush, gently and carefully brushing through the girl’s dark, shiny, shoulder length hair. Part of her wanted to throw a fit. To pout. To throw herself on the ground. It felt as if the rest of her life had been thrown away. But the other part of her knew that the fighting had to stop. And if it meant she’d marry someone she didn’t know, well, she’d make that sacrifice. Divorces existed for a reason, and it was too terribly easy for another mistress to waltz right in.

Despite the inner turmoil she struggled with, one wouldn’t and couldn’t be able to tell from the outside. Her hazel-brown eyes seemed to blur for a few seconds before she resumed her gaze into the mirror. The countryside, and the city had been hit hard during the war, and they were lucky that the kingdom itself was financially stable. “Your majesty…” Mae's gaze darted towards the servant, and then back to the mirror, then towards the gown she was to wear.

“I can finish myself. You’re free to go.” She spoke softly, quietly. The servant nodded, and promptly left. Mae hated the constricting feeling of a corset within a dress, but there wasn’t much else she could wear. It was a style, a trend. Which is part of the reason why she insisted on dressing herself. From her point of view, her waist was small enough. Squished ribs and discomfort wasn’t necessary. After a few more moments, she had finished. Unfortunately, she knew where she needed to go.

The amount of times the family had met other important families, or other allies in this sort of courtyard was infinite, and Mae hated it. The courtyard itself was stunning. Flowers adorned the Grecian pillars, which stood all in uniform beauty. Light gray stone lined the sidewalk, and blue and purple flowers grew around and about. It was apparent it was well taken care of.

The city itself was almost in ruins. Lack of care, in other words. Most men hadn’t came back yet. Or wouldn’t make it back. The people were desperate for a new start, they’d do anything avoid more warfare. Begging had easily turned into pleading, as lost loved ones still hadn’t seemed to return home. Mae glanced towards her father, the king. He didn’t look at her. Or, he couldn’t, one of the two.

Her mother, sent her a sympathetic expression, one that Mae didn’t appreciate. She could tell their sympathy wasn’t real. All that was simply wanted, was for the war to be over, for everyone to stop dying. Well, maybe she was the solution. One of her father's closest advisers sent her an icy look, which had her stepping backwards. Theo. Theo hadn’t never liked Mae, and she could sense it, although he never openly expressed it when she was around. He was a few years older than the girl, and his intentions weren’t good.

Her father stood in the center of the courtyard, her mother nearby, along with Mae. Mae didn’t know what to do. To look away, to look down, she didn’t know.

“Welcome to the kingdom of Avalon.. You and your soldiers are welcome here.. Please, let us know what we can do to accommodate you and your kind..” King Aranid spoke as he bowed respectfully, any and all sort of hostility gone from his voice. He was as desperate to avoid violence as any of the citizens of his kingdom. Soldiers, more of the security guard, stood nearby, their stances displayed respect as they bowed, politely acknowledging the newcomers.

Mae watched them, almost forgetting for a few seconds to bow, seeming a little out of unison. A light jab in the ribs seemed to jolt her back into reality, and she quickly bowed, or curtsied, showing her respect before eyeing their horses. Huge beasts. Never had she ever seen such a large animal. Avalon raced and bred fjord ponies. Short, stocky little horses with mild temperaments. Their speed, and quick reaction time was precious during battle.

Casually adjusting the necklace around her neck, she adjusted it, allowing it to rest upon hee collarbone before cautiously taking a step backwards. Suddenly, she paused, and her eyes met the man, the man she’d marry. Tonight.

I’m marrying him? There’s no way… I’m not ready.. there-there has to be something else I can do… why me… surely there’s someone else better for this. I’m awkward. I’ll simply scare him off the moment he tries to speak to me…

Quickly looking away, she occupied herself with counting the marble bricks that encased the courtyard, a little too shy to completely look at him.

He nods at one of his monstrous companions who holds his horse long enough for sliding down a shoulder. Rith isn't small and the horse dwarves even him. Keen eyes spot the bowing and his fingers twitch to recognize the bowing and to alleviate the feeling he offers a half-bow of his own. He's still wearing his helmet and cautiously removes the cumbersome, uncomfortable item. He passes the snarling bear helmet to Lyle as he listens to the kings speech. Four of his men also dismount from absolutely still mounts; they too are dwarved by the intelligent beasts, however, they do not remove any of their armor.

He eyes the princess a moment, Is she just a pretty face? is wondered plaintively before responding to the king. "Horses could use water." Is allowed after a long moment, mouth twisting into a thin line at the words your kind. Surely that isn't a slight? Why would this king court futher war? "My men are self sufficient." Rith hesitates. He won't ask for food, not with people in the streets looking so very hungry. His grey and black horse lips his elbow, much like a very large dog and he doesn't push the beast away.

He spots the adjustment of a necklace and how she shuffles a step backwards at the glower of a smaller man. He returns her brief stare when she accidentally meets his gaze. "Lyle," is said after a moment, noting how the man in question leaves his twins' side, "Reese, Jaquen, Tivalo." A pause again, "Akiri, with me." He steps towards the small family of royals - acutely aware of the guard surrounding the courtyard.

"I am prepared to wed, King of Avalon."

King Aranid nods, his robe fluttering slightly in the warm breeze. The robes appeared ancient, handed down from generation to generation, well taken care of. “Everything should be ready within two hours. Few others were invited, as it was a last minute event… But those who are able and willing to attend will. The gates are open. For citizens, and royalty alike.” He cleared his throat, and remotely gestured towards the princess.

The ceremony, and after party, will start shortly before sundown, down on the balcony. The two of you are welcome to get to know each other… Our hired staff can show you all to your rooms along with the stable, you’re welcome to care for your horses as you wish.” Avalon was a coastal kingdom, and just on the other side of the palace was the beach. It could be heard, the waves quietly lapping up against the beach in fluent motions.

Aranid gestured for the security to retreat, and within seconds every soldier that had been in sight was gone, back to their usual posts. The royalty of Avalon didn’t capture their slaves. They were hired, their pay consisting of food, a place to sleep outside or inside the palace, and freedom to come and go, if a day off was needed. Fair treatment, and equality was important to them.

Mae hesitated, knowing all too well what was about to happen. The King and Queen both retreated, swiftly moving up the steps. The rest followed. The princess seemed to pale and took a step towards her safe people, all of who were currently leaving. The courtyard was huge, but running away really wasn’t an option. “H-Hey…” Watching them leave, she glanced towards a small gate, closer towards the back of the courtyard, one that let out back, towards the gardens.

It was apparent that the royal family wasn’t sure how to act around the newcomers. They weren’t rude, but it made them nervous. Most would do anything to avoid war, and this was their attempted to put it at a forever pause. Who knew what to citizens would think.. it was almost a dangerous game to play.

Hands are sweaty… Gods, what do I do? What do I say…

“Y-Y’know, I’ll uh, I’ll let you guys make yourselves at home and we can find each other later…” She stammered and stuttered, feeling a little caught off guard. Slipping past a tree, the gate opened with a quiet creaking sound. It was unlocked, and wasn’t used often.

"Hello.." Riths' height doesn't help in the situation; he has no fancy garb to wear to the wedding, his wedding. The prince feels himself swallow as the king and queen and soldiers and workers leave he, his men and her alone. "Princess, " is called gruffly.. But she's gone and he doesn't even have her name.

She's afraid of him. Of his men. Of their horses. Of the marriage. And why wouldn't she be? He looks monsterous; covered in armor and pelts, in dirt and horse hair and old blood. Covered in scars and bruises and other various injuries. If he was tiny and gentile like her he would probably be afraid too.

Still, he'd hoped to speak with her.

---->>

Evening comes with a large group of nobility and commoners alike, dressed in their best although their best is... relative. Clearly the nobles want to see what their treaty has brought, and the commoners want food. Can't blame them, can he?

He emerges from the room where his men keep guard in a nice suit hed purchased from the market. Though he'd prefer his own garb. His armor, perhaps. But this is her wedding too. And he would not marry again, neither divorce. So this is it. May as well make it a nice one. Still, he wears the heavy, thick pelt across his shoulders like a shield, sword hung at his hip. Wordless the five men he'd named priorly break from the wall and surround the man before they walk towards this balcony.

Rith and his men arrive and he holds the tiny white flowers hed picked on the way into the capital in one hand along with a small box. Music is qued and he feels the urge to jump from the balcony, change forms- but even his father doesn't know about that gift and he doesn't want to share it...

Re: roleplay with alpha 1x1

Postby Hannah Grace » Thu Jan 16, 2025 9:26 am

Embarrassment had easily clouded Mae’s features. She hated running from her soon to be husband, but this was terrifying. It didn’t help that she’d been informed of what was to happen only days before. A weeks notice would have been nice, if not more. But it was what was expected, and it almost seemed like it had been planned all along. Mae couldn’t judge for that, she knew nothing of technicalities of royalty.

People scared the poor princess senseless. Along with standing in front of them, and having to hold hands with someone she didn’t know scared her, as well. It was difficult to avoid tears at this point. The dress she wore was surprisingly clean, soft. Its silk patterns delicate and beautiful. Cinched at the waist, it gave more of a snatching affect, and the sleeves where long, perfectly stopping at her wrists. Her dark hair lay pulled back in a half up, half down style, and a twisted flowers crown lay nestled between her locks.

Heels hadn’t been quite invented yet, so the girl wore slippers, soft, fleece slippers, which matched her dress, although they couldn’t be seen. The veil was what nearly stole the show. It glittered in the tropical sunlight, adorned with shiny embroidered flowers and other designs, a symbol and gesture of the two kingdoms conjoining together.

“You’re majesty.. Calm down. You’ll pass out…” One of the servants quietly chided her, gently reaching forward to adjust the veil slightly. Mae sent the women a panicked expression, utter terror. Public events hadn’t ever been her idea of fun, and this one was much less than fun. “Come on. I aisle is that way. You’ll be alright, I promise you that.” The woman sent her a sympathetic smile, before gently nudging her towards the end of the aisle.

Her hands quivered slightly as she walked, and she reached for her necklace around her neck, only to realize she hadn’t put it on. It was an anxious habit she’d started, and it was too terribly hard to break. So, she sufficed with keeping her hands at her side. But she didn’t know where to look. Gods, this was difficult. Swallowing hard, she glanced towards her soon-to-be groom, her eyes widening as she realized he had cleaned up well.

The priest had his wedding band. He was one of the most well respected men she’d ever met, and when it came to helping others, he had always been there. Mae hadn’t been able to pick the band itself, as she hadn’t had the time, nor the measurements. Her parents took care of it. Once she had made it down the aisle, she stepped up beside Rith. Every part of her body displayed stress, anxiety. It was apparent she didn’t want to be there. But neither had a choice.
