Money-Making Guide on CS?

Postby Nahida » Tue Dec 31, 2024 3:59 pm

This is a question that I get asked a lot by new members. There are similar guides on Eldemore and Flight Rising - but not one for CS.

So I'll set one up to encourage users to trade fairly, and highlight the common red flags which may indicate that you are being taken advantage of in trades. For users who are less active on CS apart from the Christmas periods and Events, it will be helpful to be aware of these.
There are heaps of different ways to profit and grow your collection on CS. Aside from selling new adopts for c$, the commonly-used mechanics include:
    (1) helping people collect hoard pets (difficulty: Medium)
    (2) trading-down MAs for bulk OMGSC - Extremely Uncommons ("EUCs) (difficulty: Low - Medium);
    (3) trading-down new stores / older rares for bulk recent rares (difficulty: Low - Medium).
    (4) trading-down from non's to MA's (difficulty: Medium - High).

Method 1: Helping Out with Hoards

See: The Hoarder's Handbook] for CS' large hoarders!

Profit Margin: High (100-200% yield)
Difficulty: Medium

Step 1: Browse the forums to find someone offering X c$ for a given pet that they hoard, or which they are looking for.
Step 2: Sell your own pets, or if you're lucky - find the pets in the CS Free Adoption page, or - if you're lucky - at other c$ stores. You can also try to trade other CS users if they are looking for littermate swaps(try browsing the "currently online" list on the index page!). Never deceive your trading partner on the pets worth though! Be transparent at all times. Honesty is a morality principle.
Step 3: Once you've collected a bulk of the pets, pass this to the hoarder for a higher price.
    Step 4: Repeat

Note that this method takes a lot of time, and effort - which is compensated by the profit you can make. And let me put this here. Making additional accounts for your cat or dog to get around the adoption limits is a big no no. You will be making more than enough through your account's adopts! If you have the time to grind, you could also see adoption centres are giving some away.

This happens a lot! One example was a hoarder offering 5c$ for every Very Common punk lion, and 20c$ for the red punk lion for a very short duration in 2023 Halloween :)
    ImageImage

Method 2: Trading down MAs / Old Rares for bulk OMGSC - EUCs, and re-selling these quantities individually

    Hmm - why can c$ shops are sell EUC's at 2C$ - 3c$?
Hmm - why do c$ shops sell pets for "cheap" at 4 pets for 1c$?
Hmm - why do people trade down their 1MA stores (e.g. 2015 store deers) for any 250 - 300 EUC / any 1,800 pets?

The answer is for profit! These trades generate almost twice the original money.

Level of difficulty: Medium - Low (a lot of people are not aware of this loophole as of yet).
    Profitability: Exceptionally High
    Profit Margin: 100% - 450%

      Instructions

      Step 1: Purchase a 1MA pet for 300 - 350c$
      Step 2: Name the pet - For X EUC / X Pets / X VUC's
Step 3: Set up your C$ shop in the CS Trades Forum Board, and advertise yourself as trading down lists to commons & uncommons.
Step 4: Re-sell each EUC at 4c$, and each Common + Under at 3 for 1c$.
Step 5: Once sales slow down, start lowering your prices. Remember, your cost for each EUC is only 1c$.
Step 6: Rinse and repeat once you have enough c$ to buy another MA.

      How much is the profit?
Rate of return (aka profit margin): 400%

      Break-down of figures:
xxxsxxCost of Goods Sold: 200c$ (see trading down method 2 above) - 350c$ (1MA)
      xxxsxxGross Revenue: up to 1,400c$
      xxxsxxNet Yield: 600 - 1,200c$

Method 3: Trading new stores for bulk newer rares

Do people profit when they trade a new store for 6 rares?
Do people profit when they trade a 2010 rare for 4 young rares?

The answer is yes! Huge profits! [/b]

Level of difficulty: Low (a lot of people are not aware of this loophole as of yet).
      Profitability: Low - Medium
      Profit Margin:

        Instructions:

Step 1: Purchase a set of stores for 100c$ in the CS Shop.
Step 2: Assuming that it comes in a set of four, your cost of goods sold is 25c$ per store.
Step 3: Set up your C$ shop in the CS Trades Forum Board, and advertise yourself as trading down stores to any six rares.
Step 4: Sell each rare cheap for 7c$ (According to the CS Horror Trading Guide, rares are priced up to 8c$ each).
Step 5: Once sales slow down, lower the price to 6c$, and 5c$. Remember, your cost for each rare is 4.25c$.
Step 6: If you absolutely cannot sell each rare, then liquidate them to mass buyers who purchase any rares for 5c$ each.
Step 7: Rinse and repeat once you have enough c$ to buy another set in store.

        How much is the profit?
Rate of return (aka profit margin): 20 - 68%
        Level of Difficulty: Easy

        Break-down of figures:
xxxsxxCost of Goods Sold: 100c$ (set of 4 store pets de minim)
        xxxsxxGross Revenue: 120-168c$
        xxxsxxNet Yield: 20c$ - 68c$

Method 4: Trading Down! (Difficult)

Rate of return (aka profit margin): 75%
Difficulty: Medium - High

Rule: 1 non = 10MA.
xxsxxx1 non = 2,000c$ - 2,500c$
xxxsxx1 MA = 300-350c$

Instructions
Step 1: Person A buys a 1 non pet for 2,400c$ (value based on current - 31 December 2024 C$ Buy and Sell Thread).
Step 2: Person A trades the 1 non pet to Person B for 10x MA's, or 4x 0.25 non.
Step 3: Person A sells the ten MA's for 300-350c$ each, or the 0.25 non for 800c$ (based on current C$ Buy and Sell Thread offers as per 31 December 2024).
Step 4: Rinse and repeat

How much is the profit?
Profit: 1,000 c$ - 1,500 c$
Rate of return (aka profit margin): 75%

Break-down of figures:
xxxsxxCost of Goods Sold: 2,000 c$ to 2,500c$
xxxsxxGross Revenue: 3,000 c$ to 3,500 c$+
xxxsxxNet Yield: 1,000 c$ to 1,500 c$+

Both these values are "fair" as they fall within the range of worth for the pet, albeit bearing a 10MA gap. 10MA is equivalent to 2,000 - 3,000c$ (stretch to 3,500c$).

Method 5: Flipping through Off-Site Trade Currency Exchange Rates

For simplicity, this explanation will be positioned in the context of FR (Flight Rising) offsite trades. A similar approach can be taken for other permissible off-site games.

[list] Rule: 1 non = 10,000 gems
xxsxxx1 MA = 1,600 gems (most common figure. Anything below this is generally considered "cheap" for flipping.
xxsxxxBased on USD values, 1 c$ is equal to 5.9 FR gems ('5.9g'), or 5,900 gold treasures ('5,900t')

xxsxxx In practise, a great conversion rate is 1c$ : 5g (as gems can be earned for free).
xxsxxx However, people usually sell c$ to gems at 1 c$ : 4 g. People buying c$ with gems tend to ask for 1 c$ : 3.75g.

Option 1: Direct Gem Exchange - Buy Low, Sell High
Step 1: Convert your c$ to gems at a higher ratio than the one which you sell for.

Profit Margin: Very minimal (5-6.25% yield)
Difficulty: Very High

Option 2: Laundry Cycle - Buying non's through FR gems to trade down

Rate of return (aka profit margin): 100%
Difficulty: Medium - High

Step 1: Convert 2,000 - 2,500 c$ to 10,000 FR gems.
Step 2: Purchase X non of pets at 10,000g per non.
Step 3: Apply the step 1 - 2 under Method 2 to produce 10MA.
Step 4: Re-sell each MA for 1,600 gems.
Step 5: Convert 1,600g to 350$ - 450c$.
Step 6: Rinse and repeat

How much is the profit?
Profit: up to 2,000c$
Rate of return (aka profit margin): 100%

Break-down of figures:
xxxsxxCost of Goods Sold: 2,000 to 2,500c$
xxxsxxGross Revenue: 3,500 - 4,000 c$
xxxsxxNet Yield: 1,000c$ to 2,000c$

The only method that seems really scummy is the value range one since majority of the people value at lowest when trading for it and highest when trading it

Thanks himarry - fully agreed. And great suggestion - I will now update the original post to flag this in RED for clarity.

100% a scummy method, so putting it there will be helpful when people trade to avoid being scammed.

For readers - I'd also highly recommend you visiting Bluefly's current discussion thread. Currently 9-pages long, which voices the dissent of the public towards this method! This guide was leveraged from the cracks in our system helpfully revealed by Bluefly, and operates in conjunction with it to highlight the pressing need for a re-consideration of value points.
Kind regards,
Nahida

upon reading this i feel that option 4 should just be removed entirely - i don't know how useful it serves as a warning to new users if it's under a thread titled "money making guide" and not something like "how to avoid unfair trades". as it stands anyone who clicks on this thread has no reason not to try flipping pets like the ur flower dragon if they're given such a clear outline and guide to profit off of doing so. but this isn't my thread, so do with that what you will!

I second both bugbaby and comfypxl. As it is now, as a part of this guide, that advice serves as a step-by-step tutorial as to how to easily exploit those value gaps that you see as harmful to the CS economy (which I agree with, mind you!) I feel that discussion of value range flipping should be had, but in a separate discussion to serve as advice on how to not be used by more savvy traders (and without detailed instructions on how to do it yourself ;v;)

This signature needs to be redone, and I am far less active on CS than I was 2-3 years ago. Please understand.
