WME Family Tree [Community Project & Resource]

Postby LadyCrowsong » Wed Dec 25, 2024 2:22 am

The All-Inclusive Equid Tree is a major Work-in-Progress for the foreseeable future which is why I am sharing a link to edit it so others can help out as well! This tool will also be able to serve as a resource to have all of the equids catalogued into one place and be sorted by unified method that makes use of their original page's URL (so all equids have their own unique tag from their official Chicken Smoothie page) and not only can they be viewed and found but familial links can be checked for future breeding endeavors as well.

I have determined a format for each equid entered into the tree:
1. Given name is what the equid is/was called but more importantly is the "surname at birth" field which is the final string of numbers in an equid's CS page's URL.
2. Select male or female depending if the equid is stallion or mare. For birthdate enter the date the equid was posted as per their official CS page. These two fields are not necessarily essential but I think worth having.
3. In the biography tab paste the entire link to the equid's official CS page.
4. For the "photo" use the original oekaki post image of the equid (on my computer they seem to automatically save as jpeg).

To find an equid in the tree (or if they are already in the tree, at this point still) go to that equid's original posted page on Wild Mountain Equid Adopts and copy the string of numbers after the last equal sign in the URL. Then in Family Echo paste that number into the box to the right of "Find:" at the bottom right of the page. If the equid is in the tree that number will list them and let you click to their position.

Since I started this with my own equids, my first in particular, Iagan will be the general start place which I do not know if I can change or not. Because of the self-centric nature I have also been working outward from my own equids, though intend to eventually work at incorporating all into the tree as possible. I am more than happy to help others, part of why I am making/sharing this with others, so please just reach out if interested!

As I can I will add better guides for using this resource as well.
Thank you for your patience and please enjoy!

Updates
3 January 2025
Adjusted a couple stallions to be listed as 'godchild' of Starter Stallions. Easy thing to miss to make when uploading and even easier to amend. Many thanks to all who have been helping fill out the tree further!
Also added guides to linking personal unofficial equid pages to individuals in the tree as well as linking to their unique location in the tree for others to easily view.

-

30 December 2024
Revival Equids through 0070 have been added to the family tree.

Adding a starter equid to the tree:

This is the category most equids will fall into as adopts. Starter equids are original members of the species with no parentage/heritage at all.

To add a starter equid...
1. Select "Starter Mares" or "Starter Stallions" from the tree (selecting the one that matches your equid's gender) and then click the option that says "add child".
Image

2. Of the child options, select "add godchild" and then "add godchild without partner". This allows us to include all equids without having family lines crossed in a way that would suggest inbreeding.
Image Image

3. Go to the equid's original CS page (for this example, the very first of the revival equids) and find the final string of numbers in the URL after the equal sign. This will be important for finding the equid in the tree later and will be listed as the "surname at birth".
Image

4. You will also make use of other information on the original page such as the entire URL, the date posted, and the gender of the equid. For revival equids (2024 and beyond) there is a numbering system in place that will fill the role of "Given Name" in the family tree but all previous equids can be listed with given names as dictated/known to the best of user ability.
Image

5. Fill in the "Personal" information as dictated by the official page. Add the original official URL in the "Bio Notes" area of the "Biography" section.

6. Don't forget to save what you add in but otherwise that is it!

Adding an Equid with Heritage to the Tree:

Any equids born to other equids will fall into this category. You will first want to determine if equid has a relative already in the tree. You may have to click a few links from parent to parents of parents before you find a direct or ancestor on the tree. You may also encounter a family with no one already in the tree, at which point you will need to start by finding the starter members of the family and adding them first and working your way down.

1. Go to the equid's original official page and identify the URL, the final set of digits in the URL, the gender of the equid, and the date it was posted. Also make note of the links to the parents, who will either also be added in now or will be used to get started if already in the tree.
Image

2. In this example, the equid has one direct ancestor already in the tree - his grandfather, Kae'ouit. To check if relatives are in the tree go to their official pages as linked when they're parents and then take the last set of digits after the equal sign in the URL and put it into the "find" box at the bottom right of the tree page.
Image

3. For this example we will first add the already-in-tree equid's not-yet-recorded offspring. This Kae'ouit's daughter' Sundara. If you look at the links you can see that her link is listed on her son's official page since she is one of his parents and on her page is listed the link to Kae'ouit since he is one of her parents. Because her mother, Anara, is also not yet in the tree, we will be adding her at the same time as Sundara. Other cases like this should follow the same procedure.
On the listed equid's page select "Add child" followed by "Add child with new partner" and fill in the information as possible.

4. When adding starter family members please be sure to click "more actions" and then "set parents" and listing either "Starter Mares" or "Starter Stallions" as the only godparent, matching the starter to the same gender as that equid.
Image Image Image

5. With this example we can now add the originally-intended equid. From his mother, Sundara, click "Add child" then "Add child with new partner". We will add the equid from the start, who I have recorded in past WME things as named Hale, and then add his father's information too. From the links available I was unable to find the name of Hale's father and have filled the information otherwise and listed his name as "Unknown" which can be changed as needed later. You will also notice that photos/images will have to be added AFTER uploading the partner and offspring.
Image Image Image

6. What gets tricky when adding in other equids from the family is that occasionally you'll be working up a line and find that the parents are linked by oekaki image and not to their original pages. This does not happen in all cases but in a fair amount of them. I've found this to be difficult when encountered so far as I don't grasp how to reverse engineer the original link from the oekaki link and otherwise am left to either find the equids by checking non-official user equid pages OR scrolling through all of the created equids ever made until finding the equid in question. I suspect there is an easier way to do this but have not yet acquired it; I will share once known though!
Image Image Image

7. Don't forget to save what you add but otherwise this concludes this portion. There is variation on how to add equids who have relatives already in the tree but this is meant to serve as a base guide. If you have any further questions or could do with some help regarding it please feel free to reach out!

Editing your equid's information when they are already in the tree:

So your equid is already in the tree with the base information given.
[Don't forget to check for this before adding anew!]

While not essential it could be useful to have links to personal equid pages available per individual equid. To do this find your equid in the tree, select them, and then click the "Contact" tab followed by "Edit my details". I would recommend placing the link to your unique page in the "Blog" or "Website" fields but suppose any of the options technically work.

This could be useful for people to find current owners and see characterizations as well as breeding slot availabilities for various equids, or get in touch for other reasons.

Sharing a view-only version of the family tree that opens to your equid:

For personal use it is quite nifty to be able to link to your specific equid in the tree in a way that allows others to view without making changes (since they may or may not be part of the community and know how to work the system as we have it going). Surely enough it is in fact possible to link to any equid in the tree so that one can view that equid as start point.

1. Find your equid in the tree by searching their name (if 2024 or newer this will be the number listed on their adopt page) or number (the last string of digits in their official page URL for all equids) and select them. The search feature is at the bottom right of the screen.
Image

2. Along the bottom of the FamilyEcho page are several tools, one of which is a paper airplane with the label "Share" - click it. It will offer more options and from these you will want "Permissions" set to "view only" and then to find the bottom option and select "Create Link" which you can then use in posts on CS or elsewhere to link to your equid in the tree.
