Highland Pointers | Competitions & Titles

Postby appleschloss » Sun Dec 15, 2024 10:35 am

(This is an optional way to participate in Highland Pointers! It's primarily for fun and fully free to enter as long as you own at least one pointer.)

Welcome to the Highland Pointer Club. Our Club is dedicated to hosting competitions to highlight the talents of the breed, encouraging high quality production and bonds between owner and dog. We award titles and merits based on how the dogs perform, with our awards being recognized amongst other organizations, as well.

Our four main competition types we host include: Conformation, Hunt Tests, Nosework, and Agility.

The only thing you need to participate is a pointer of your own.

Our competitions run on a weekly schedule. Dogs may only enter in two competitions in a given week. They can choose Conformation or Hunt Tests and also compete in either Nosework or Agility.

Any given handler may currently only compete with up to 5 dogs at a time for a total of 10 possible competition entries. If you'd like to learn more about each individual competition type, see the post below. We also encourage you to read the following section regarding general rules and conduct to be expected during HPC competitions.

We hope you enjoy!

General Competition Rules

..... »Posts can be edited anytime before a round closes each week.
..... »Any given dog may only compete in two competitions. They can choose Conformation or Hunt Tests and Nosework or Agility. (Example combos: Conformation/Agility, Conformation/Nosework, Hunt Test/Nosework, Hunt Test/Agility)
..... »Dogs can earn specific perks through training and winning competitions. These perks are permanent and each competition type has its own perks and perk limits.
..... »Certain titles allow dogs to pass on perks to their pups. These genetic perks are also permanent.
..... »Titles and perks are bound to the dog, not the owner. This means if a dog changes ownership, their current titles and competition progression remains.
..... »Entering in competitions can give owners perks as well. Up to 3 individual owners each week will win a Yummy Biscuit or Class Voucher, decided at random. Each individual user can only win one Yummy Biscuit and one Class Voucher per month.
..... »Perks for an individual dog add up as they're gained, but perks that are passed through genetics/breeding default to the highest possible perk. (ex: getting through Master Excellence Nosework just gives the +3 to pups not the +3 and the +2 and +1 of the previous titles needed to get it)
..... »Competitions are strictly RNG based. You're welcome to craft lore around the rolls that occur but know that there isn't favoritism involved, just dice rolls!
..... »Your posts can be stylized and tweaked away from the base form as long as the relevant information is still easily readible and accessible.

Highland Pointers | Conformation & Hunt Tests

Postby appleschloss » Mon Dec 16, 2024 11:45 am

✼ ҉ Conformation ҉ ✼

Conformation is a way to highlight the standards of the breed with an emphasis on behavior, health, and appearance. Dogs are rated in groups of 20 on a score of 1-100. In the case where less than 20 dogs are entered, NPCs will be added to fill in the gaps. In the case where there's too many dogs for one group, but not enough to fill a second, players will be evenly distributed so one group doesn't have more NPCs than another.

Dogs all start at the Standard Conformation level, regardless of any conformation perks they already have. Dogs may only have a total of +20 added to their conformation rolls, from lineage, training, and awards won.

In each group, up to four awards are given out during an average show. These awards include: Up-and-Coming, Best in Class, Best in Show, and Best in Breed.

Up-and-Coming is an award a dog may only win one time. It's randomly determined each show who may receive this award, regardless of their points that show. This gives a +1 to the dog's conformation perk.

Best in Class is randomly awarded to a dog who scores 70 or more. It can be won multiple times. Each win gives the dog a +1 to their conformation perk, with a max total of +2 coming from Best in Class.

Best in Show is randomly awarded to a dog who scores 80 or more. It can be won multiple times. Each win gives the dog a +1 to their conformation perk, with a max total of +3 coming from Best in Show.

Best in Breed is randomly awarded to a dog who scores 90 or more. It can be won multiple times. Each win gives the dog a +1 to their conformation perk, with a max total of +4 coming from Best in Breed.

If a dog has won 1 Best in Class, 1 Best in Show, and 1 Best in Breed (minimum) they have the chance, if they score a 95 or higher, to win the Title of Excellence in Constitution. This is a one time award that adds a +3 to the dog's conformation perk.

Once a dog has won a Title of Excellence in Constitution, they're eligible to enter the National Conformation Show. Here they can still win Best in Show and Best in Breed awards with a chance to win a Champion Ribbon. Once a dog has Champion, next show they have a chance at Grand Champion. Finally after Grand Champion, they next have a chance at Master Champion.

Dogs with Champion rank will pass 1 conformation perk to their puppies, Grand Champion passes 2 conformation perks to their puppies, and Master Champion passes 3 conformation perks to their puppies.

◈◆❖ Hunt Tests ❖◆◈

Hunt tests are used to both test a dogs innate drive and pointing capabilities, while also highlighting the training done between dog and owner. Hunting requires distance work, restraint, and drive.

Between titles, genetics, and training a dog can only have a maximum +20 added to their score.

Hunt tests have three primary titles: Junior Field Pointer, Senior Field Pointer, and Master Field Pointer. During a hunt test event, 2 different tests are ran per dog. Our hunt tests are rolled on a pass/fail system per prey. Each hunt test has 4 "prey" that they are presented with. A 1-50 roll will result in the pointing/flushing of that prey a "fail" where a 51-100 will result in a "success." Each title requires a set amount of qualifying/successful tests to earn the title and move on to the next level.

Junior Field Pointer-
Requires 4 successful tests. In order for a test to be a success/pass the dog must be successful for 2/4 prey per test. Earning this title adds a +2 to the dog's hunting perk.

Senior Field Pointer-
Requires 6 successful tests. In order for a test to be a success/pass the dog must be successful for 3/4 prey per test. Earning this title adds a +3 to the dog's hunting perk.

Master Field Pointer-
Requires 8 successful tests. In order for a test to be a success/pass the dog must be successful for 4/4 prey per test. Earning this title adds a +4 to the dog's hunting perk.

One a dog had successfully achieved all 3 titles, they may enter in the National level hunting competition for a chance to earn a National Master Field Excellence title. This title can be earned multiple times. Instead of being a pass/fail system, these dogs will be presented with 4 prey and roll a score from 1-100 for each prey. They must get an 85-100 score for 3/4 of the prey to have a chance to earn this title (highest scoring dog wins). Each NAMF title adds a +2 to the dog's hunting perk with a maximum +10 added.

Pointers with NAMF titles will add hunting perks to any pups they produce. NAMF-I adds +1, NAMF-III adds +2, and NAMF-V adds +3.

Highland Pointers | Nosework & Agility

Postby appleschloss » Wed Dec 18, 2024 6:39 am

◢✥ Nosework ✥◣

Nosework is a dog sport seen across the globe that seeks to highlight the olfactory capabilities of dogs of all breeds. Dogs are scored based on their detection time, handling, distractability, and accuracy. The highest score a dog can get is 100 and each level requires a different minimum score in order to pass.

Between titles, genetics, and training a dog can only have a maximum +20 added to their score.

During nosework trials, dogs must navigate through obstacles and distractions to find the scent and source of the scent correctly.

Before dogs are able to participate in nosework competitions, they must first pass the Scent Capability Test to show they have the baseline skills to compete. This is a simple pass/fail test, needing a 51+ score to pass.

After completing the introductory test, there are two competition levels that set dogs up to better succeed once competition breaks into more specific groups. These include Beginner Nosework and Novice Nosework. Once a dog passes Novice Nosework, they will get a +1 nosework perk.

From there, dogs may choose any of the three categories to compete in: Prey Scent, Object Scent, and Retrieval Scent. Prey scent involves live rats (who are trained and safe during these competitions) hidden amongst obstacle courses that dogs must navigate. Object scent involves stationary objects where dogs must be able to pinpoint the correct scent amongst other scents, normally searching through bags and humans to do so. Retrieval scent is search-and-rescue focused where dogs are given an article of clothing from a person hidden in the course. They must then go find and properly indicate where that person is.

Each category has three levels to work through: Intermediate, Advanced, and Senior. These three levels have increasing difficulty. Intermedite requires a 70 or higher to pass, Advanced requires an 80 or higher, and Senior requires a 90 or higher. Each successful Advanced Title adds a +1 to the dog's nosework perk and each successful Senior Title adds a +2.

Finally there are the upper levels of Nosework.
Superior Nosework Expertise (SNWE) requires senior level in at least one category in order to be eligible to compete. Gaining this title will pass 1 nosework perk to their puppies and gives a +3 to the dog's nosework perk.

Elite Nosework Expertise (SNWE) requires superior expertise as well as two senior level titles to be eligible to compete. Gaining this title will pass 2 nosework perks to their puppies and gives a +4 to the dog's nosework perk.

Master Excellence in Nosework (MENW) requires all other titles in order to be eligible to compete. Gaining this title will pass 3 nosework perks to their puppies. This doesn't add additional nosework perk as this is the highest title a dog can get and they can only get it once.

..••° Agility °••..

Agility competitions showcase the bond between dog and human. Through teamwork they navigate four different kinds obstacle courses, each having their own goal and challenges. Standard is a basic, number course. Tunnelers utilizes primarily tunnels, requiring focus and connection. Slingshot puts the handler at a distance, requiring proper communication. Crossroads has multiple routes where dog and handler must chose one route and not stray from it.

The scoring of the dog is based on how well they work with their handler to meet the criteria of the course. The highest score a dog can get is 100 and each level requires a different minimum score in order to pass.

Between titles, genetics, and training a dog can only have a maximum +20 added to their score.

In order to advance from one level to the next, a dog must receive a qualifying score in each of the four course types. This doesn't have to happen within the same event. For example, if a dog successfully completes a Standard and Tunnelers course one week, and the next week completes Crossroads and Slingshot, they can then advance to the next level.

There are five levels of basic agility: Beginner (BAC), Novice (NAC), Intermediate (IAC), Advanced (AAC), and Elite (EAC). Beginner courses require a score of 40 or higher to pass. Novice requires a 45 or higher to pass. Intermediate requires a 55 or higher to pass. Advanced requires a 65 or higher to pass. Elite requires a 75 or higher to pass.

Once a dog completes all four course-types at a given level, achieveing the title for that level, they will gain the following perks:
Beginner Agility Completionist - +1 agility perk
Novice Agility Completionist - +1 agility perk
Intermediate Agility Completionist - +2 agility perk
Advanced Agility Completionist - +2 agility perk
Elite Agility Completionist - +3 agility perk

After the EAC title is received, dogs may enter to win their Premiere Agility Champion title. This requires a dog to run all four course types and receive an 85 or higher on all four, in the same event period, in order to receive their PACH. Once a PACH title is awarded, dogs will pass 1 agility perk to their puppies and a +4 to the dog's agility perk.

From there, dogs can compete at the Master level.

To receive a Master Agility Showman - Bronze (MASC-I) title dogs must get an 88+ on all of their courses. Achieving this title adds +4 to their agility perk.
To receive a Master Agility Showman - Silver (MASC-II) title, dogs must have a Bronze title and get a 90+ on all of their courses. Achieving this title passes 2 agility perks to their puppies.
To receive a Master Agility Showman - Gold (MASC-III) title, dogs must have a Silver title and get a 93+ on all of their courses.

To receive the highest title of Master Agility High Champion (MAHX), dogs must have the Gold title, get a 96+ on all of their courses, and rank the highest of all the dogs competing for an MAHX (only one dog can get it per show unless multiple dogs score a perfect 100). Achieving this title passes 3 agility perks to puppies.
