Suggestion: Petdex! Archive should track prev. owned pets.

I said I didn’t support the idea, but I would accept it if there was an amount of time the pet must be kept. The amount of time a pet should be kept seems like a better idea to me than quick swapping. If quick swapping were allowed, it would make the achievement meaningless. How long should the pet be kept though? I’d say the limit should be less than a year but more than two weeks. It has to be long enough to have “collected” it, but short enough where it doesn’t collect dust. Maybe two months?

Tell me you've never played a Pokemon game without telling me /lh , this is something many people do to temporarily complete their Pokedex (the device this suggestion is based on mind you) to unlock other game features. Also, meaning is subjective and your playstyle is not any more meaningful than another person's playstyle. Forcing pets that are being SWAPPED to stay on another account for MONTHS only would make the risk of players being scammed or losing their pets larger. People forget about this site and leave and come back years later, it would be a shame if they were banned because they forgot to return a pet they were meant to return to someone.

but the other user still has to agree to trade back so surely this isn't an issue?

people actually do this on neopets! C: there’s a whole subculture around it and it actually works even though it might sound silly. not for pets, but for rare avatars that require at least briefly owning super rare, super expensive items. it’s called “avie lending.”

I understand that it might be different here just bc it’s a different site culture and all that. but I wanted to mention that it might not be as bad as it sounds to have something like lending going on.

I don't really see any harm in quick-swapping, aside from the risk of people not returning the pets (but staff would be able to help with any disputes as long as there is evidence both sides agreed on the swap-back). I don't think quick-swapping would make the achievements pointless, people can decide for themselves if they want to tick each pet off "authentically" or just for the sake of a tick mark. How players use the feature shouldn't impact how anyone else uses it.

My only suggestion would be to have the tick marks toggleable and off by default so people don't get confused between "owned" or "previously owned" pets when looking through the archive.

That is to say, I support the Petdex suggestion wholeheartedly! Give users a less stressful and fun way to have a trade journey to have collected all the pets on the site! The site is supposed to be fun and chill, so much so that COPPA'd players can enjoy the fun too! Making collections impossible to complete isn't fun!
