A beautiful summer day
A breeze, a kite, a tree
Was all took to bring these two near
A ring, a deed, a wiggling mass of black fur
No love stronger than theirs
A selection, a letter, a salvo
Will they survive the coming woe?

Story?

Thanks to The Royal Mirage for dressing up her tree for me. :D

"Happy eighth birthday, Audrey!" an enthusiastic birthday girl said to her best friend.
"You too, Caitlin," the other birthday girl said as the two hugged.

~~~
The nineteen-year-old stood quietly, her eyes glued to the gray, marble headstone. Her eyes scrolled over the words again and again, tears streaming down her freckled cheeks, even though she had read them every day for ten years.
Audrey Hall
June 17, 1993 - February 2011
Lost and Never Found
Gone but Never Forgotten
She knelt down and ran her fingers across the stone; it dropped along with her eyes. She knew the her best friend's body wasn't under there. What the headstone said was literal: she was never found, but pronounced dead after being missing for a year and a half.
"Happy nineteenth birthday, Audrey," Caitlin whispered. She could almost hear the words "You too, Caitlin," in reply from her friend. Slowly, she placed a concrete stone next to the marble. It was roughly flattened with two small handprints imprinted in it.
"Do you remember this?" she asked quietly, placing her hand over the small imprint on the right side. "This was from our eigth birthday party. From what we called arts and crafts time." She smiled weakly as her eyes swiveled along the colorful beads that flecked the rock. "This is my hand. And that one is--" Caitlin paused for a moment, took a breath and continued. "And that one was yours."
She sat in silence for twenty minutes. It wasn't until a family of birds began chirping loudly that she snapped back to reality. Caitlin smiled (although her lips didn't part as she did so) and stood up, letting out another deep breath. She began to walk away, and slid her hand across the top of the marble headstone as she did.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Audrey. Happy birthday."
>Part II<
"What game should we play next?" Caitlin asked her friend.
A glint appeared in Audrey's eye; it always did when she had an idea. "Let's play adventure!"
"But where will we go?" Caitlin asked.
"Well, we can go to the field and woods down the street!"
"Sounds like a plan."
~~~

Pulling out her camera, Caitlin began to talk to her friend. "I'm going on vacation for a few days, so I won't be able to actually be here until I get back." The camera flashed as the picture of the headstone was taken. "But don't worry, we'll still have our daily visits." Caitlin sat down, indian-syle. She was silent for a moment.

"Do you remember that time my dad took us fishing when we were 12?" Caitlin asked. "I fell into the water off the side of the boat. I didn't really know how to swim... When I got pulled back onto the boat, I found out that you were in the water swimming after me before my dad had any time to react." Caitlin sighed.

"You were always heroic. You were always amazing. You were my guardian agel, I swear. Always there for me, whether it was physical or emotional trouble I was in." Looking at her feet, then back at the grave, she took a breath and continued, "And those are always great traits to have." She began to choke up. "But the worst thing about all that is... is that..." Tears began again. There wasn't a day that went by during a visit she didn't cry.

"Audrey, it got you killed. I got you killed."

>Part III<
"Run, Cate!" Audrey screamed, moving as quickly as her short legs would take her. Caitlin had always been slower than Audrey.
Caitlin turned her head around to see what it was. The snarling, growling... thing. Its four feet moved across the ground quickly, its glowing, yellow eyes drawing nearer by the second. "It's... too.. fast..." Caitlin panted. She jerked her head back forward to see Audrey picking up a tree branch that fell from a tree near them. She stopped moving and turned towards the beast.
"Leave my Caitlin alone!" she screamed, swinging the branch as soon as Caitlin passed. A whimper echoed, and Caitlin turned to see Audrey running behind her. "Keep going!" she yelled. "I think we lost it!" Caitlin nodded, and ran back to her house. A gunshot echoed through the air, scaring her and pushing her harder. She ran back where the party had been at just hours ago. She turned, surprised Audrey hadn't passed her on the way.
Audrey was gone. She never made it back to the house.

~

Caitlin winced at the memories. She didn't like to think about it, but ever since she got to her vacation spot in Georgia, she had thought about it every day. Something was weird...

"Mom, I'm going to the Pancake House for breakfast!" Caitlin called, walking out of the old-timey house just across the street like she had done every morning so far.

"Hey, Caitlin! Back again for pancakes this morning?" The same waitress would greet her each day and take her order. She brushed her brown bangs from in front of her eyes. Her nametag read Amy, so Cate assumed that was her name.

"Hey, Amy!" Caitlin called. "You know it!"

"Alright, what can I get for you?" Amy joked.

"Hmm," Caitlin began sarcastically, "I think I'll take a pizza with french fries." The two chuckled.

"Alright, two chocolate-chip pancakes comin' right up!"

Caitlin twiddled her thumbs and sat quietly. When she saw Amy approaching, she sat up and smiled. But before the waitress could reach her, a crash was heard from the kitchen. Amy put the platter on a nearby table and ran back to help.

She's so fast, Caitlin thought, chuckling to herself. Amy was back soon, picking the platter back up and carrying the rest of the way to Caitlin.

"Sorry about that," she said, smiling.

"It's alright!" Caitlin said. She looked up at the waitress, realizing she'd never really paid much attention to Amy's physical features. Her hair, her nose...

Her eyes.

Clear as glass, they looked at Caitlin, confused as she began to stand up. "Cate, you okay?" she asked.

Caitlin extended her arms and rested each hand on one of Amy's cheeks.
"Audrey..?"

This is a vent piece, so don't mind me. I just need to write this down to help me.
It's not a pair pair, but it's my version. <3

Daisy
Dae

~Her Daddy gave her her first pony
Then taught her to ride
~

The little red-headed girl stood in the aisle way with her too big breeches and oversized hunt boots.
Her deep auburn hair was pulled back into a bun and tucked neatly under her helmate with only a few strands escaping their confines.

"When do I get to ride?" She asked, her small pitchy voice was eagar.

An older woman brought a horse from within one of the neat wooden stalls. The little girl stared up in wonder at the horse.
It was beautiful, more so than she had dreamed. The mare was the color of rich milk chocolate, and fresh marshmallows.
The girl's eyes were wide as she stood for a moment, letting the image of her horse sink in. This was her horse.
The older woman gave a faint laugh and cracked a smile at the girl, 'Come closer dear, and meet your new horse. Her name is Daisy."
For a moment the little girl just gazed in astonishment at the horse, then she took a step forward and stretched out a tiny hand to pet the horse's muzzle.
The paint mare, Daisy, stretched the rest of the way to meet the little girl's hand, pressing her warm, soft nose against the girl's trembling hand.
It took no more than that small gesture for the little 8 year old to fall in love with the paint mare.

~She climbed high in that saddle
Fell I don't know how many times~

Sweat rolled down Dae's face. Underneath her Daisy was loping along, letting Dae show the world her stuff.
On one side of her, a sorrel horse was acting up and threatening to swerve into the pair's path.
The other side consisted of a tall white wall, and Dea realized that this could not end well. Her horse sensed the panic in the 14-year-old's body and they both knew what was coming next.
The horse next to them swerved into their path, slamming them both against the wall and causing Dae to fall to the ground, as her horse scrambled to get up. Behind them horses veered around Dae, and a voice boomed overhead.
Dea heard nothing as pain seered through her arm and she held back the tears. How many times had she fallen before?
Ten, twenty? Definitely more. But none had been like this.
Panicked voices swarmed the girl, and a someone was taking her horse away. She tried to tell them to bring Daisy back, but she couldn't make much sense of her words.
Not much else registered to Dae, as her horse was pulled away, limping as if she had been hurt.

~~~
After a night in the hospital, Dea was released to go home. Only a minor concussion and a fractured wrist had kept her from her horse.
It only took a little bit of demanding, and a slight amount of whining for Dae to be taken to see the paint mare she had come to love in the past few years.
~Cowgirls don't cry
Ride, baby, ride
Lessons of life are going to show you in time
Soon enough your gonna know why
It's gonna hurt every now and then
If you fall get back on again
Cowgirls don't cry~
Upon arrival, Dae could sense the tension in the barn. The vet had come out to see Daisy, and see what had happened in the show ring. Silence like death greeted the teen.
Eveyone had pained looks on their faces and Dae already knew what she was going to be told. Warm tears fell from her cheeks as silent sobs racked her body.
The vet emerged from the stall, with a grave expression all but engraved into his face, "Dae, I'm afriad she's to hurt. It's amazing what she did. Daisy managed to catch her hind leg on her front one and rip the tendon. It's to dangerous to do surgery on it, and she will lose full use of the leg without it. Your only option is to put her down."
The sobbing Dae could only shake her head, if only the horse next to them had kept their space.
"I want to talk to her," Dae managed to say, and everyone quickly allowed the sorrow-filled girl to enter the stall.
The first thing she did, after a moment of staring was take one step towards the horse and stretch one hand out to touch the horse's nose.
Daisy stretched her nose out too, to meet her best friend halfway. As they had done 6 years ago, when they had first met.
It was as if she knew this was the end of their friendship, that something better would wait for her on the other side.
Dae wrapped her arm's around the mare's neck and let the tears soak into the fur. She remained like this until the tears came no more, and only dry, silent sobs escaped from their hold in her body.
"Dae, darling, please let me take her pain away." The vet's voice brought her back to reality and the teenager was pulled from the horse and dragged from the barn.
With her head in her heads and fresh tears falling, Dae knew that her horse was gone. She wouldn't go into the barn, and never would her friend be replaced.
(Yeah. It's crap, but it made me feel better, in a weird way. There's a whole other part of the back story in my head, but this wasw what I wanted to write. The ending.)
"I'm sorry, Caitlin," the officer said. "We have looked for a year and a half. The blood trail stops abruptly, and no other clues were found." He rested his hand on Caitlin's shoulder. "She's dead."
~
Amy took a step back. "What are you talking about, Caitlin?" she asked. She looked scared.
"Audrey," Caitlin said again. "It's... it's you! They were wrong, you're alive!" She went to hug the waitress, but Amy took a step back.
"Cate.. What the... What are you talking about?" she repeated. "My name is Amy. Not Audrey."
"No, you..." Pausing and taking a breath, she tried another approach. "What did you do on your eighth birthday?"
Amy didn't answer. Her eyes flickered to her feet, then back to Caitlin. "I don't know."
Silence. "That's it? What does that even mean?"
"I lost my memory. All I have are these scars." Amy pulled her sleeve up and revealed scratch marks, along with bite marks. "The doctors said it was a miracle I didn't lose my arm."
"So.. You didn't deny it. You are Audrey."
"I told you. I don't know. I don't remember."
"You don't remember? You don't remember aything?" Caitlin shouted. "You don't remember moving in with me when you were six because your parents sent you away? You don't remember saving me from drowning? You don't remember our eighth birthday party? Arts and crafts? The thing that was chasing us?!" Her voice was loud now, and her yelling silenced the building. Silence. "You don't remember being Audrey?" she whispered.
"I'm sorry, Caitlin. But my name is Amy. I live here, in Georgia. I have never saved you. I was not chased by the same monster as you, although I do believe I was chased by something..." Her eyes fell. "I'm sorry Caitlin. I wish what you said was true."
Caitlin took her backpack off, an threw it on the ground. "There. That's for you," she said, teeth clenched, holding back sobs. And with that, Caitlin turned ad left.
Amy knelt down to pick up the bag. Inside, there was only one thing; a scrapbook with cut-out letters crookedly glued to the front, reading "Our Adventures". Not even bothering to sit at a table, Amy opened it.
The very first page showed two little girls standing in front of a sign that read "Welcome to Kingston". They smiled like goofballs, teeth missing and all. The next page showed two girls leaning over a table, blowing out candles on top of a cake. Eight candles. More pictures of a birthday party followed. She closed the scrapbook and put one hand over her mouth. That little girl... She had a familiar look. The eyes looked like glass, like they could shatter at any given moment. Amy stood up, the noticed another picture had fluttered from the pages. The picture of her headstone took her breath away.
~
"Happy 20th birthday, Caitlin!" one of her friends, Sam, said.
"Thanks, girl," she said, hugging her friend. "Now, go enjoy the party," she said, laughing.
A knock at the door.
"I thought everyone was here already?" Sam asked.
"Me, too,"Caitlin said. "Probably just a salesman or something." She walked to the door, opened it, and gasped. "..Amy?"
"Amy?" She said, confused. "I'm Audrey."
Tears began to pour down Caitlin's face.
"Happy twetieth birthday, Audrey!" an enthusiastic birthday girl said to her best friend.
"You too, Caitlin," the other birthday girl said as the two hugged.
I know, you'd rather hang out with your friends.
Just once, once can you glance?
Your too busy, you probably don't know my name.
PART 1
Ringggg!
The final bell had rung, and I slammed my locker. Just in time. I thought, when I saw Toxik pass by me, without a single glance, or even a 'Hey'. It was normal, for Toxik not to glance at me or talk. That's what happens when your below the popular kids. I don't think she even knows I exist. Which that hurts. I've been crushing on her since we were little, but I don't think she knows.... yet.
This time, she'll know I'm there. There's been a talk around the school that there will be a dance, and I hope that I can ask her... That is, if I work up the courage to do it. How embarrassing would it be if she already had a date? Or even say no? Could I even take that chance? Guess I'll just have to find out.
A week later...
I glanced at the poster in front of me. Halloween Dance: Saturday {Time and other things}
Girls Ask Guys.
Oh, great! How lucky am I? I thought, a little bit upset. I knew for sure, Toxik was going to ask someone else. That's just the way it goes.
I sat at my normal table in the cafeteria, eating peacefully. Usually, no one would sit at the table except my two friends, but this time, it was different.
Toxik was there.
I gulped at the sight of her. I guess I'm not invisible! I said to myself. For 5 minutes, there was complete, awkward, silence, until Toxik decided to break it with the most surprising question.
"Hey, Sterling, would you like to come with me to the Halloween Dance?" she asked, slowly putting down her burger. I was stunned, frozen in place. My friends tried to not laugh, but I knew any second they would. So, I did what I needed to do.
"Sure, Toxik. I'd be happy to." I said, trying my best to not sound amazed.
"Cool, I'll text you the details."
"You know my phone number?"
"Of course. I'm supposed to know."
