Yep, I'd say that's the Eye of Horus - good spotting on the horseshoe! ^^ Egyptian hieroglyphs have no 'handedness' like our letters, so they can be written backwards or forwards equally well. Random Egyptology fact - hieroglyphs are read in the direction that the animals are facing, and tomb inscriptions were often doubled up, with one set of inscriptions facing one way and the other set facing the opposite direction to maintain ma'at, or balance. So one half of a door might have a story carved in it from left to right, while the other half has the same story but written from right to left.

little annotation: hieroglyphs in paintings are "looking" always in the direction where an important person is shown... so you can have a picture with a king and maybe a god who are looking at each other and the hieroglyphs around them will always be faced the person next to them (so they are looking to the middle)... that's the same with doors like you said before

Or the four symbols of Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. The elements of life to most Egyptians...(or so my history teacher says)
