The Royal Fae Ball (Accepting!)

Postby Consulting_Angel » Mon Sep 30, 2024 11:20 am

Plot

    'Dear [Name]
You are cordially invited to a Royal Ball, hosted by the Royal Fae Family,
in celebration of the upcoming engagement of the Fae Princess of Solvale,
and the Merfolk Prince of Maraqua.

Join us for a full week of celebrations and events, leading up to the main
event at the end of week, starting on the 11th day of August.
Accommodations and meals can be provided on request with your RSVP.
RSVP with your answer within the next week - we hope to see you!

    Yours,
The Royal Families of Fae and Merfolk.

This invitation was delivered to you - an invite to celebrate what had been unknown to everyone. An engagement between the royal heirs of the two strongest kingdoms that could be no different to one another. A union that would, no doubt, call for further celebrations when the actual ceremony would happen (and, of course, strengthen an alliance between the two kingdoms, but that sort of politics isn't of interest to most).

The day of arrival soon comes up. Whether you have to travel to Solvale from another kingdom, or perhaps only live a town or two away from the main city that the palace in in (or even in the capital city itself), there is a similar excitement and buzz in the air from everyone. Powerful people, nobility, and anyone that might have a slight connection that would grant them an invite have all gathered. Knights, from both Solvale and Maraqua patrol and stand by, though also relax and joke with one another. Servants, also from both kingdoms, hustle and bustle to make the final preparations and lead the guests that will be staying in one of the many guest rooms of the Solvale Castle to their rooms.

It's not until that early evening, when the first event of the week takes place - a casual socialising event in the courtyard of the castle - that the royal families make a public appearance on the balcony. And from there the week officially kicks off.

But what might be happening behind the scenes that could cause some tension? Are there rumours of the prince and princess only putting up a front for the public of their relationship? And who knows who might be out there, hoping to sabotage the entire thing...

Character Notes
- All members of the Solvale royal family are Fae (faeries). They are human-sized, and are able to perform magic, mostly nature-based. Their wings are typically bug-based, mostly moth or butterfly, but the royal family's wings have a more translucent, iridescent appearance - though similar shapes to that of large-winged moths/butterflies.
- All members of the Maraqua royal family are Merfolk. They are able to change between a 'human' form and their 'mer' forms at will, and also have water-based magic. Their ears retain a fin-like appearance in both forms, and still have patches of scales and forearm fins.
- All nobles, knights and servants can be almost any mythical being or humans. If you're not 100% sure about your idea, please feel free to ask.
- There's no gender requirements for any of the roles, aside from the heirs, as noted in the invitation in the plot.
- There can be two rulers for each kingdom, if you'd like to make the second one, discuss with the person playing the first one first to make sure that would work with the character story they've got!
- If there is a role you'd like for your character that doesn't quite fall under any of the current titles (physician/advisor/tutor, perhaps?) then PM to make your request first and we'll discuss your idea!

The Kingdoms

Postby Consulting_Angel » Mon Sep 30, 2024 11:22 am

Solvale
Solvale is a large, lush kingdom with many forests, though also open fields. Cities tend to be few and far between, with medium towns being much more common. Many villages can be found within the forests as well, but those that reside in the depths of the trees tend to be more isolated. Solvale has several regions that are each represented by a noble family (Duke/Duchess/Lord/Lady) to form a council that meets fortnightly at the castle, ultimately headed and lead by the royal family.

The castle and the grounds cover a huge space in the capital city. The courtyard is a common outdoor events space, as well as being used as a training ground for the knights. There is also a tournament arena, where entertainment and events also take place.
The castle is fairly confusing to navigate for those that are not used to it. Guest rooms are all in their own annex. A grand hall, throne room and dining hall serve as the main spaces guests will visit, though there's also a vast library, physician's quarters and studies/drawing rooms.
The gardens provide many paths to walk along, and a hedge maze to explore.

The kingdom runs with magi-tech. Electricity and basic vehicles, amongst other things. Though no devices like phones or TVs.

Maraqua
Maraqua is an underwater kingdom, covering a wide space of ocean. There's typically only cities in Maraqua, though some pods may choose to reside in underwater caves. Said cities are huge, much bigger than even the capital city in Solvale - though it helps that they can build vertically.
Each city has their own noble family that represents them, and are mostly left to their own devices with the occasional check in from the royal family - or if there's a disaster or danger, then the royal family will step in.

Maraqua has developed their own type of metal - a deep blue with aqua markings - called Maractite, which can cut through water like it is air, so knights have armour and cutlasses made from it. Maraqua is known to be extremely well-defended, especially after it was attacked and destroyed by pirates many, many years ago. There is a section known as 'Old Maraqua', where the previous palace and capital city used to be, with only ruins left... and a bubbling, deep-sea crater that everyone is warned to stay away from.

Re: The Royal Fae Ball (Accepting!)

Postby Consulting_Angel » Thu Oct 17, 2024 1:24 pm

All guests have arrived at the Solvale castle, and settled into their guest rooms. Currently, most guests should be in the courtyard, for the socialising event, where drinks and canapes are being served. Both royal families are preparing for their first, official, public appearance that will take place on the balcony, which is due to start in about 15 minutes.

Andromeda Wispearl
25 | Female | Solvale Heir
Location: Balcony Doors
Tagged: Open
Andromeda stood at the balcony doors, waiting. It was still a good fifteen minutes before the scheduled appearance of the royal families on the balcony - the first public appearance of the week for them - but she didn't want to be sat in her room much longer. She held out her left hand in front of her, currently bare, but the end of the week it would have a ring on it. She was trying to imagine the ring, wondering how it would feel to be officially engaged. Engaged to a prince that she had no real relationship with. She'd met him several times before, and he'd seemed nice enough, but there would be very little truth to the façade that they'd have to put up in front of everyone else. Andromeda pulled her hand back in, holding it to her stomach, and adjusted her posture as she reminded herself firmly that it was for the good of her kingdom - both kingdoms - and that she had no time for doubts. She could smile and wave, and, at the end of the week, act surprised and delighted when the planned proposal happened - and not just because she had to.

Honestly - she was a little excited. Solvale, especially the royal family, had spectacular celebrations, and even the smaller events leading up to the main event were nothing short of brilliant, and she liked attending them. As Andromeda began to think about the speech she'd make at the end of the week, at the royal ball - something that she would have practiced down to every word and intonation - she heard someone approaching from down the corridor. Andromeda glanced around, smiling warmly at the approaching figure. "Good afternoon," she greeted.

Atlas Drake
26 | Male | Maraqua Knight
Location: Castle Corridor
Tagged: Open
Atlas stood out in the castle corridor, waiting for the moment the Maraquan royal family would be on the move - positioned currently outside of the Queen of Maraqua's guest quarters. He was not going to be going out on the balcony, but he would be sticking firmly to his duties and walking with them to the balcony doors, and then back through the castle and into the courtyard again. He had been given the option to be temporarily relieved of duty and instead spend the evening in the courtyard, mingling, but Atlas felt very much like a fish out of water - literally - and had no idea where he'd start, nor did he really want to socialise. It'd already taken a while to get used to walking. He was much more comfortable doing exactly what he was used to, and holding his trident, since he didn't want to trust it with anyone else or put it in a room in an unfamiliar place, which he'd have to if he was off-duty. After all, that was why they brought him to Solvale, to protect. Maybe he was paranoid, but he was well aware that there could be danger around any corner, an attacker wherever they went.

There wasn't too much time before they'd have to be on the move, to get to the balcony doors in time, ready for the appearance. Atlas was not too concerned, though. The Maraquan royal family had been given the time and opportunity to freshen up and change outfits after their long journey to Solvale and, naturally, appearances would be everything. Before long, the Queen of Maraqua left her room, and Atlas followed a few feet diagonally behind her, as they started to make their way towards the balcony doors - but first, a stop at the Prince and Princess's rooms, which had been situated next to each other - so that they could walk together as a group. The Queen of Maraqua knocked on both doors in turn, announcing that it was time to make a move.

Damion Sterling
29 | Male | Solvale Noble
Location: Courtyard
Tagged: Open
Damion leaned with his elbow on a high-top table, swirling a drink idly as he observed the courtyard. It had been a while since he'd been here, and it was nothing unfamiliar for him. Most of the attendees he recognised, and those that he didn't, he guessed must be from Maraqua. He honestly wouldn't have been here if he hadn't been expected to attend. After all, he had a mine to keep an eye on, along with other matters. Ah well. A whole week of events and celebratory occasions was nothing to roll his eyes at, and it meant free food and drinks for him - and all he had to do was ensure he gave a good impression and showed his support for the engagement of Princess Andromeda and Prince... Whatever-His-Name-Was. The courtyard had been decked out brilliantly, servants carrying trays of drinks and canapes to offer to the guests. Not half bad for a starting event to kick the week off with.

Perhaps he should start to make some connections - after all, that's what the point of this event was, right? And besides, that was how he was raised by his father, making connections and working his way up. Who could help him to get ahead..? Damion looked around carefully at the courtyard. Servants were off his radar. Most of the Knights were likely inside the castle or otherwise working anyway - and those that were off-duty and from Maraqua he doubted had anything substantial to offer, though he wouldn't put them off the table. Perhaps someone that was Maraquan nobility would be interesting, since he was already well acquainted with the Solvale nobles. Damion hummed to himself, taking a sip of his drink. Before he could decide who to approach, he noticed out the corner of his eye someone else approaching and joining him at the high-top table. So, Damion turned towards them and said, getting right to the point of introductions, "A fine affair, isn't it? Damion Sterling, Duke of Demeford."

Katrina Casus
36 | Female | Solvale Advisor
Location: Physician's Quarters -> Courtyard.
Tagged: Open
Katrina was meant to be out in the courtyard, mingling with everyone else and no doubt freaking them out a little. Instead, she had moved through the almost-empty castle and arrived at Bernard Illsbury's Physician Quarters. As long as she was in the courtyard when the royal families made their appearance on the balcony, she was sure that she wouldn't be missed, but she didn't have a lot of time. She knocked on the door, once, twice... three times. No answer. She tried the door - it was locked. Katrina scowled for a moment. Locked doors posed no issue for her - she could teleport into the room or simply walk through the wall, after all - but she did have some morals about not going into a room without being invited, especially a locked one. Fine. She'd just have to come back later, she bet the Physician was enjoying the festivities, which... was honestly understandable.

She teleported in a small puff of smoke that swirled around before fading away, and reappeared in the same way in the courtyard... where she'd ended up almost on top of someone else, having appeared directly in front of them. Unfortunately, teleporting did not account for who or what was in the area that Katrina teleported to, since she'd have to focus on a specific place and spot to appear in. "Oops," Katrina said, though did not sound sorry in the slightest, "guess that's what happens when I choose to teleport into a busy place instead of walk." She did not make an effort to move away from the other person, only half-smiling at them, as though amused at the situation.

Re: The Royal Fae Ball (Accepting!)

Postby Spiritstar3 » Thu Oct 17, 2024 2:58 pm

I feel like Andromeda calling Nova something like Starlight as a nickname could be cute.
I’d have to figure out what he could call her]

Nova Wispearl- m- 23 y- ‘Spare’ of Solvale- Faerie- Homosexual- crush: Atlas, Kaelan- Tags

The boy hummed quietly, and glanced around a moment. He then shook his head, and let his wings flutter a bit. The large wings were a tan/light brown, but the middles caught light. The middles were a soft greenish and blue color and translucent. The ashen blonde sighed and shook his head again. Then the dark eyed and longer lashes beauty left his room. The boy with the curly mid neck length hair wanted to find his sister. Therefore, that’s what he decided to go do. He looked in his vanity, and brushed his hair. He then stood from the chair, and smoothed down the purple top and the nice shorts or pants he wore. He was wearing stockings and fingerless gloves this day as well. The stockings were white and light purple striped. The fingerless gloves were about the same shade of purple as the shirt, and seemed to have little spots meant to look like stars. He placed a hand to his chest a moment. The pendant and the ring, which he’d also placed on a pendant or necklace, were there.

Smiling, he headed to the door and opened it. Heading to where he figured his sister would be, he found her at the balcony just as he’d thought. He smiled and said “Hello, big sister. She was only a couple years older, but that made her his big sister. He dipped his head a moment, as she spoke. He then raised his dark gaze, and said “Good afternoon.” He probably should have just said good afternoon, rather than hello. Either way, he’d already said both forms of greeting, and now he looked around, wondering where their dad was.

Dominique Morres- f- 26 y- Royal Gardener- Faerie- pan; Seraphina- Amos x Annabelle: Marcus- Tags

The cocoa skinned and deeply dark brown eyed woman was out in the garden. She was the Royal gardener, after all. She realized maybe she should be inside, with others. She wasn’t quite sure if she was allowed…but she knew the servants and such were in there. She wasn’t really ready to do that, though. She hummed quietly as she worked with her plants, digging up some spots. She then took some lovely white and red flowers. Common colors associated with love and weddings. She began to place them in holes, and fill the holes back in. The curly haired dark haired woman soon finished doing this. She wiped a hand over her forehead, then gasped. She realized she’d likely gotten dirt or mud onto her forehead…Shaking her head, she headed inside. She headed for a sink, where she washed her forehead and her hands, and she took her sun hat off now. She smiled as she looked around. She went back to her space to change into a dress rather than shirt and overalls, then headed back again.

Marinn Quinto- f- 26 y- Servant- Kelpie- pan; Seraphina- knight x nursemaid- Tags

The creamy peachy skinned one hummed a bit. She was one of the servants for Maraqua, and likely a servant to the heir’s sister, or even the queen herself. She was with some of the other servants. The Kelpie sighed and shook her head. Turquoise eyes glanced around for a small moment. She then brushed back long semi wavy hair, or tried to, but she realized. She remembered one of the other had put it into a waterfall braid. She called it that anyway, because her hair was wavy like a waterfall. It was a crown braid, and then part of her hair was loose. There was basically a bottom layer, then the braid on top and hair coming out of that. The red, blonde, brownish haired girl sighed. She waited to be told what to do, or to start walking with the others.

Keenan Wittmore- m- 25 y- Knight- Siren- homosexual; Kaelan, Atlas- Date/ SO is open- may want to have or adopt kids one day but isn’t really sure about it- George x Nina: Hyram, Issa, Morgan- Tags: Atlas

The curly haired golden-brown haired male hummed a small sound. He brushed back his mid-neck reaching length hair. His turquoise or teal eyes then glanced to the other knight there. He touched the pendant that was hidden beneath his shirt. He then shook his head, and walked with the other. Some of them had been assigned to the Queen, some had been signed to the heir. Some had even been assigned to the heir’s younger sister. As were the servants, having their specific people they went with. Shaking his head, he glanced to his fellow knight. He’d noticed the other wasn’t used to being out of the water. He, on the other hand, seemed to have taken to it quite fast. He shook his head a couple times, then looked around again.

It was a habit he just couldn’t seem to break. They were knights, trained to be on the lookout and to protect their royal family. Especially now, being outside their own kingdom. He felt like he had to keep looking every once in awhile. Besides, there wasn’t much else to do, since he knew Atlas wasn’t the talking type. Atlas seemed to just want to always do his job as a knight. Which Keenan could honestly understand. It’s what they’d been trained to do, and it’s the profession they’d gone into. He sighed with relief when the queen appeared. He followed her alongside the other knight. Letting his eyes wander the halls, looking around at the walls. It was a nice place, really nice, as nice as their own palace was back ant home.

she hated the dress. it wasn't her per say. it was very maraquan nobility, something she decidedly was not, despite her parents and brother's assuages. she might have royal blood, but adria didn't exactly fit the mold her parents would likely want her in. she would rather be out with her friends, partying it up and celebrating things that were decidedly not her brother's engagement to some land-dweller. she could be bitter about it. caelum would be splitting his time between kingdoms and she already didn't see enough of him, not that she was sure he wanted to see her at all. she honestly more felt that he found her annoying and was waiting for him to announce her engagement to a prince once he was king, someone far enough away to watch adria for him. she shook the thought from her head. it was a constant battle for her: did her brother like her or hate her? she didn't feel there was an in-between.

the dress didn't suit her skin-tone and it clashed with the residual scales on her arms. it was an intense red, almost like the corals of a reef she frequents. while she enjoyed the color of the reef, the reality is that the red went horribly with the blue. she supposed it was her mother's attempt to integrate some of the solvale kingdom colors in the royal family presentation, but adria was not wearing this. she threw open the wardrobe doors in the corner, rifling through some other dresses. pulling out a navy blue dress instead. the cool color would make her scales pop more rather than drown them out. she made a quick effort of changing the dress, briefly struggling to tie herself into it (that's what she gets for sending her servants away), but succeeded in the end, just in time to hear her mother knocking on her door.

running her hands down her stomach, smoothing out any wrinkles in the dress, she opened the door. she gave her mother a brief smile, waiting to see if she would comment on the change of dress, but she was thankfully silent. her gaze slid over to the two knights with her mother, atlas and keenan. she had seen them around the castle, possibly even tried to talk their ear off, and most definitely snuck out past them a couple of times. she tipped her head in acknowledgement, but didn't speak much. instead, she became very interested in her nails, waiting on caelum to exit his room so they could get on with this presentation and she could finally slip away to do something fun while on land.

cade was screwed. being a servant of maraqua, she was used to the affairs that come with working for the royal family. she just stupidly assumed that any celebration - including engagements - would be celebrated in maraqua. a completely naive thought. most of the creatures of the waters could breathe on land. the opposite couldn't be said for the land dwellers. cade has done very well for herself since starting a servant position in the castle. she worked very hard to hide her blindness in the left eye, mapping each hall and room of the castle as to not come across as anything other than normal. that wouldn't be possible in a foreign kingdom.

she could see normally with her right eye, a blessing considering the circumstances of the blinding of her left, it just left her with a limited field of view. unless her head was turned enough to see, anything on her left side was gone. there wasn't anything there. she couldn't put it into words if someone asked other than nothing. regardless, she now was in a unique situation again. learning the castle and castle grounds of a kingdom she wouldn't be in for long as to not draw attention to herself.

currently, she was in the castle courtyard, holding a tray of drinks. she almost wished she was with the royals, but adria had sent away her servants, and cade was part of that gaggle of servants. her tray was decidedly lighter than when she had first received it, several nobles having already snagged the drinks from her. it was to the point she was now wandering around, clearing any glasses she could find. she drifted slowly through the high-top tables, carefully avoiding the edge of each. the gleam of a glass caught her attention to the left, something she briefly caught with the angle of her head. as she moved towards the table to reach for it, she got the fright of her life in the form of a male voice. she froze for a moment. a noble? speaking to her? while not unthinkable, it was almost up there with the fact she was in a foreign kingdom. she waited a moment, almost sure he was speaking to someone else. when nobody else spoke, she decided to tentatively answer. "uh, ye-yes it is i suppose," she stuttered out. "i'm cade, um cadence sovena, one of the servants to the maraquan royals. nice to meet you?" it came out questioningly, with a slight hint of disbelief in her voice. maybe the solvale nobles weren't so bad?

Re: The Royal Fae Ball (Accepting!)

Bernard Illsbury | 34 | Male | Royal Physician | Balcony Doors | Tags: Andromeda, Nova
Bernard had been anticipating this celebration for weeks. Of course, as the Royal Physician it was no secret to him about the marriage. He had spent almost too much time running around preparing all manner of cures, be they for even the slightest headaches to anything that might ruin the happy celebration. He almost hated it, using his power for such menial things, but at the same time, it meant that he could spend as much time as he wanted alone 'preparing' them under the guise of having to focus so everything was perfect. Today, he had been doing his routine checkups on everyone. And for his current checkup, Andromeda Wispearl. Upon seeing her, he bows, and smiles back. "Greetings Miss Wispearl. I have come to check up on you, to make sure that everything is absolutely perfect for your public appearance. Have you got anything that ails you, may I ask?". He also notices that Nova was there was well. Showing support for his sister, no doubt. Well, since he was here... "Ah, good afternoon Nova. I suppose I should ask the same question as I asked Miss Wispearl, do you have anything that ails you?"

Orion Wispearl | 61 | Male | Ruler of Solvale | King's Quarters | Tags: Open
Orion stood in his quarters, and took another deep breath. He couldn't even begin to describe how he felt. This was the big day. His daughter's big day. Everything he had taught her had all lead up to this. He had been preparing his speech for ages. It was hard to believe that they were only 15 minutes away from the public appearance. "Guard, fetch me some more water please." he asked, before practising his speech once again. "Just one more time Orion, and then it'll be time to go to the balcony." He nods to himself, and continues practising. Everything had to be - No, everything WOULD be perfect for this day. His eyes wandered over to the portrait of his father, which encouraged him to keep practising.

Caelum Rieth | 27 years old | Male | Heir of Maraqua | He/ Him | Demisexual, Demiromantic | Merman| Tags: Adria, Atlas, Keenan
Caelum paced around his bedroom, waiting for the time the Queen would knock to signal it was time to go. He knew the schedule and did not need to be reminded like a child, but she had insisted and he didn’t have the heart to argue. He knew this day would come for months now, his mother having told him about it as soon as it was decided. Like most things in his life, Caelum had no say in the matter. Despite having interacted with the other royal family before, it was during events such as this ball, and he did not actually know them well at all. He also assumed that the other family did not know his family well either. He glanced out of the corner of his eyes to the door as the knock he was waiting for sounded. They had exactly fourteen minutes and thirty seconds till they were scheduled to open. Caelum knew this as when he was little he was forced to tell his teacher the exact time down to the second. Knowing the time became a skill he easily memorized, being forced to do so so frequently before.

Opening the door, Caelum spotted his sister just exiting her own room. He nodded to the guards in silent greeting before walking out and falling in place alongside his family as they walked out towards the balcony. He turned to his sister giving her a warning under his breath. “None of your antics today. While you do not have the weight of ruling in the future, you still need to behave. Don’t embarrass our family”.

Seraphina Drakonis| 32 years old | Female | Noble of Solvale | She/ Her| Bisexual, Biromantic | Dragon | Tags: Damion, Cadence
The Dragon Duchess stood within the crowd, surveying her surroundings, a drink swirling in her left hand. Seraphina wore a ankle length dress that hugged her curves in all the right places. It had a slit down the right and a flared out at the bottom. The dress was orange, covered in jewels the colors of fire. The neckline of the dress was a V with flame details that curled up to her shoulders. She quite enjoyed occasions like the one today, as the other nobles always came with entertaining stories to tell. She noticed that her drink was empty, raising her hand to call for one of the servants to give her a new glass. She took the new full glass from the tray and replaced it with the empty one. "Thank you darling" she spoke as she took a sip of her drink. She then looked around to see who to interact with, see who had some interesting stories that she desired. She walked over to a high table where she spotted the familiar face of Damion Sterling, the man three years her junior. She noticed he was talking with one of the servants. She didn’t know he would lower himself to a servant’s level. “Interesting” she said, speaking loud enough for both to hear as she approached them. “Didn’t expect to see a day where Damion Sterling would be talking to a servant” she said taking a sip of her drink. “What a beautiful name, Cadence” she said addressing the servant with a gentle smile. Unlike Damion, she wasn’t afraid of being acquainted with servants. If she had allies that wouldn’t be noticed she could get information from right under other’s noses and servants were a good option, especially ones from the other kingdom.

Kaelan Emberheart | 24 years old | Male | Servant of Solvale | He/ Him| Homosexual, Homoromantic | Phoenix | Tags: Marinn
Kaelan knew that the ball was starting but he could help but make a quick stop by the kitchen to grab a pastry. He knew that most would be in the courtyard, so no one would notice. He quickly scarfed down the muffin and grabbed his tray with drinks. He then wiped the crumbs away and went to the courtyard. He spotted another servant, seeming to be from the other kingdom. “Hello” he greeted her. “Busy day am I right?” He chuckles trying to start a conversation. He hoped that there weren’t any crumbs remaining on his mouth that would give away his kitchen stop. Kaelan knew that he wasn't supposed to have taken that stop, but then again Kaelan did enjoy bending rules. And, if he didn't get caught then what was the harm?

Elenara Windrider | 21 years old | Female | Noble (Knight) of Maraqua | She/ Her | Bisexual | Elf (water) | Tags: open
Elenara stood by the side door of the courtyard, scanning the guests. She wore her knight attire with armor made from Maractite, her gloves, and her precious sword. While Elenara could use magic quite proficently, hand to hand combat sometimes worked better with a sword, especially an enchanted one such as the one she had. It was a gift to her from her mentor, who retired after causalties from a war a few years ago. Elenara was in charge of ensuring no fights or dangers arise during the ball. She could feel the energy around the courtyard and so far it seemed quite calm, besides the occasional scuffles between the nobles.
